Whoever has the annoying synthesizer in the crowd should be taken out behind the curling center and shot.

Re: Part II of the XXIst Winter Olympiad....and NBC still sucks.

Did you only watch the third period? I saw numerous good hits delevered by Norwegians. They didn't look intimidated by the Canadians at all.

Actually, yes, that was it, just the 3rd period. That makes some sense to me now, kind of. So they gave up in the 3rd like the ex commie girls did in the 2nd period against the US gals.

AMEN!!!!
Though, I would give ski jumping a pass.

• Downhill skiing: Fastest one to the bottom wins. A sport.
• Ski jumping: Whoever jumps the farthest wins, but there are style points involved. Anything that involves style points is not a sport.
Surprisingly, not a sport.
• Cross-country skiing: First one to the Finnish line wins. A sport.
• Freestyle skiing: Includes subjectively judged events. Not a sport.
• Ice hockey: Objective scoring. Missing teeth. A sport.
• Ice dancing: You're kidding, right?
• Curling: Frozen shuffleboard with brooms, objectively scored. Shockingly, a sport (though possibly more of a game).
• Luge: Fastest one to the bottom wins. A sport.
• Bobsled: See luge.
• Speedskating: Fastest one wins. A sport.
• Biathlon: Skiing and shooting while resisting shooting the guy in front of you. A sport -- and one that would be huge in Texas,
where I live, if we had more snow.
Brent is going to have a fit when he finds out that Golf is in fact a sport! :D
I don't think I've ever played hockey, soccer or basketball, and grabbed a cool one when I was subbed out.
I think the only question to ask is: Why not?

What about softball? Its a sport by definition, and you can sure drink while you play it. I've seen 2nd base replaced by a keg, and you had to slam a cup of beer before you can advance to 3rd. Now that is a sport.:D

"OK, let's go over the ground rules. You can't leave first until you chug a beer. And then scoring, you have to chug a beer. You have to chug a beer after all odd-numbered innings. Oh, and the 4th inning is the beer inning."

Re: Part II of the XXIst Winter Olympiad....and NBC still sucks.

Finland has won 15 of 16 faceoffs.

1-0 Finland, 3 left in the 1st

Edit: 2-0
both goals are PPG

Hey, we know how to play softball.

End of two:

Finland 3
Belarus 1

Sergei Kostitsyn scored 21 seconds into the 2nd for Belarus. Nik Hagman schooled some Belorussian stiff defenseman to score a highlight goal to make it 3-1.

Who is playing goal for the Fins? I heard that Backstrom was going to play one game in the Olympics.

Let me just offer another perspective for ski jumping (I'm a guy who gets weak in the knees on the second rung of a step ladder). Unless you've been to the top of one of these facilities, or at least been at the base and looked up, you can't imagine what it's like to do what these guys do. I've been to the top of an Olympic 90m hill and that big sky flying hill in the UP (Ishpeming?). As I say, I needed a day or two to recover, and obviously did no jumping.

Remember the opening sequence of Wide World of Sports? The "agony of defeat? "It's still a durn miracle that guy didn't wind up in a body bag. And I've posted before about a DU jumper who broke his neck during training at the '68 Olympics. I resoectfully submit the risks involved make this a sport, notwithstanding style points.

If you go to the top of the ski jump in either Salt Lake City or Lake Placid the view is a graveyard. Not the last image you want in your head before you start down the ramp...

5-1

OMG! "Use the focus" BTW, I believe that UP sky flying hill is at Iron Mountain. Still, it's a really big ramp. My older brother climbed up the thing and like a dope I had to follow him. Bad mistake.

Finland wins 5-1.
SOG were 45-12
