Paris Under Attack....the hell?

Re: Paris Under Attack....the hell?

Anonymous has vowed to up its cyber attacks against ISIS as a response to the bombing hostage taking in Paris.

Hacker collective Anonymous has vowed to inflict a ‘major cyber attack’ on ISIS following the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday 13th that have so far claimed 129 lives.

A video posted to YouTube in French sees Anonymous warming the Islamic State that: “We will launch the biggest operation ever against you.”

Anonymous also tweeted a statement reading: “Make no mistake: #Anonymous is at war with #Daesh. We won’t stop opposing #Islamic State. We’re also better hackers. #OpIsis”.

...

“The purpose of this Op is to identify and report supporters of the atrocious November 13th 2015 Paris attacks in an effort to assist finding those responsible, demonstrating that we do not tolerate such atrocities and gather information that could help prevent further attacks in the future”.

This is not the first time that the group has targeted ISIS. Confirming this in a tweet, Anonymous said:

“Just to be clear: #Anonymous hasn’t just declared war on #IslamicState, we’ve been at war for quite some time already”.

"We are upping our game, you will now be hit by major cyber attacks,” the hackers told ISIS in the new warning.

Re: Paris Under Attack....the hell?

It always seemed to me that a most effective terrorist attack would be on a school or bowling alley in Peoria. Nobody would feel safe.
When I first read this I was going to respond something to the effect of "we already do this ourselves."

The home grown school/theater shootings and these incidents deemed "terrorist" attacks are exactly the same. The shock, violence and immediacy of the senseless deaths. The reaction that "we must do something" to either retaliate or prevent another from happening. The belief that we, as a society, cause or enable the attacks through our own actions or inaction, and that if we somehow just change or act differently, it will stop. And the cold hard truth that when you really look at it, the loss is a pittance compared with everyday preventable deaths like car accidents, obesity and the like.

Re: Paris Under Attack....the hell?

I think he's suggesting that we turn our eyes off and ignore the fact that terrorism exists.

And if you think terrorism is the only thing that gets the US populace to turn its brains off....please watch about 10 nanoseconds of a Kardashian show and get back to me. :D

Or go back and read your posts about the OMGEBOLASCARE!!1!! ;) :D

Re: Paris Under Attack....the hell?

I'm not sure why we're supposed to launch a ground war over an attack on another country? I sympathize greatly with the French who for some reason have become the main Western target of terrorism, I speculate because they might have the most home grown jihadists, but if launching ground wars stopped terrorist attacks in NATO allies, can someone explain to me the Madrid and London bombings at the same time we were at war in Iraq?

Some people are scared, and going to war is how they think we should lash out at those we don't like. Some people just like war, while still more like the idea of us at war - because we're good at it. Others would point out that the French went to war in Afghanistan after we were attacked in 2001, and this would be a just payback to our longtime ally.

I don't know enough about Spain's operations or predilections, so I wouldn't comment on why Madrid was attacked. London was thought to be attacked for joining the US in its wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Side note to that: the French withheld from Iraq on the grounds that we didn't have enough reason to invade.

Spain had joined in during Iraqi Freedom, and then after the Madrid attack, pulled out.

Re: Paris Under Attack....the hell?

Listened to most of the press conference this AM. It was very interesting to hear the different way questions were worded. Felt like I was listening to the same dichotomy I am reading on here. A string of questions about why we didn't just fix it, bomb/send in troops? Why, if we knew about ISIL/S didn't we do something?

Missed the end but I find it interesting that the questions seemed more about finding fault and failure to have avoided the circumstances than about what will come next. Even more interesting that it is directed at the President of US for failure to protect another country that has it's own gov't and security. Kind of bizarre when you think about it. Would love to hear the press conf of the other countries. Do they also hold us responsible?

[not saying this in defense of the President. I just think it is weird if you look at it in a non emotional, logical way]

I do take a partisan view, but its very odd for the US to be asked to launch a ground war over a terrorist attack in a 3rd country. Nobody's asking us to launch a ground based invasion in Africa whenever Boko Haram (sp?) does something.

All Western countries need to rely on their internal security to prevent things like this. I'm not blaming the French, but I'm sure a vigorous review is going on as to how this happened. Even if one guy snuck in with migrants, there's at least 8 of them who launched these attacks. Invading Syria would have done zip to prevent this.

Re: Paris Under Attack....the hell?

Well, it's nice to see which governors are racist asshats, anyway. If it were 75 years ago, they'd be supporting the internment camps as well.

We live in a fault based, finger pointing world. Everything bad always has to be someone's fault. Someone should have known, and they should have done something about it. It's ridiculous.

I would no more blame the French government or the U.S. government or the President for failing to prevent these attacks than I would my own mother. But we also live in a very political world, so that won't stop people from blaming Hollande, Obama or George Bush for that matter.

Sorry. Bad s h ! t sometimes happens, and it sometimes happens to innocent people and there is nothing anyone could have done to prevent it.

I'm not sure we agree that much, but we do here. The only thing I'd add is that it's always been this way in politics. My aunt had a crate of newspapers that tracked the progress of WW2, and politics is shot through them. "FDR should have known!" "Republican isolationism emboldened Hitler!" So it's always been with us. God knows what the broadsheets said during the War of 1812!

the proper analogy would be if japan wanted to send a couple hundred thousand "refugees" here after bombing us. don't believe anyone is going around rounding up muslims already IN country. (yet)
