Oswego State Lakers.. 2021-2022...Let's get ready to...???

Nice win, looked pretty good all around, will have to stay close early Sat. night and then take it to them in the offensive zone..Should be a great game at The Ira.....Go Lakers!!!...I'm sure Lakernation will be in full effect as well, they travel well...

The boys looked good last night. Well prepared, fast start, puck movement, and discipline. The first goal was very special as it set the tone. The only hitch was another penalty on a PP, however, it did result in a goal during the 4 x 4.

Tonight's the night. Last game a goal produced by all 3 lines, need to repeat tonight for a chance to advance. Go Lakers.

SURVIVE AND ADVANCE - keep out of the box, limit self-inflicted wounds, a strong start and strong finish…easy to type, hard to do. This team’s growth, the disappointments and the celebrations have prepared them for this day. If you want to be the best you have to beat the best. Go Lakers!

Has the game passed some coaches?

Coming into the season Oswego State had the second-highest recruiting class (2020) rating on Neutral Zone) (3.3) behind Utica (3.69) star rating.

Teams that Oswego lost too:

Utica: 3.69 stars/ National Ranking 2
Genny: 3.21 stars/ Ranking 3
Hobart: 3.06 stars / Ranking 7
Augsburg: 3 stars/ Ranking 4
Elmira: 2.92 stars/ Ranking 10
Fredonia: 2.5 stars / Not Ranked

For comparison here are the top D1 Schools for 2020

Michigan 4.45 Stars / Currently Ranking 5
North Dakota 4.39 Stars/ Ranking 4
BU 4.18 stars/ Ranking 14
Providence 4.15 stars/ Ranking 19
Minnesota 4.13 stars/ Ranking 2

The lowest 5 D1 Schools:

Yale 3.42 stars
Alabama Hunts 3.45 stars
St Thomas 3.47 stars
Dartmouth 3.50 stars
Holy Cross 3.54 stars

Keep in the mind the above star rating (3.30) doesn’t take into consideration the 5 D1 Transfers this year:

Green 3.75 Stars
Dickinson 3.75 stars
Clegg 3.75 stars
Robillard 3.75 stars
Warmuth 3.75 stars
Nash 3.75 stars – Left School to go pro (27 games / 8 Goals 12 assists) *be nice to have that production!

I think every other D3 program would give their right arm to have the talent, fan base, and arena that Oswego has.

The Geneseo coaching staff tells me that it's nice to have a recruiting class with a high star rating, but they don't really pay much attention to players' star ratings. It's I think more about the kind of team you're trying to build--Geneseo and Oswego clearly differ a lot there--and team culture (e.g., Geneseo likes guys who were team captains or assistants in juniors--shotblockers who play hard in all zones). More of the guys from Oswego have the size for DI with very strong offensive numbers in juniors, which might account in part for the higher star rating. Geneseo is obviously smaller and faster, with strong puck skills, but we do struggle sometimes with teams that are really physical and play a more straightforward game if we can't run them down physically. That's my impression anyway.

Both good takes. This year's team was built to beat Geneseo but fell short. Not the right combination of players? Most likely. The team improved as the season wore on, but sadly never capitalized on the big games against ranked opponents. Probably cost us a Pool C. But we couldn't score goals, the exception being the first line. We graduate 6 seniors, interesting that none have decided to use their last year of eligibility from the COVID year.

Don't know if this team was built to beat Genny but rather the team's out West. Had a nice season but as mentioned could beat the ranked teams and take advantages of opportunities. A big concern should be the PPK and PP. It will be interesting to see who are DiCarlo's line mates next year. Well there is always next year.
Hope Genny takes it all and represents teh SUNYAC with class.
Oswego '88

Missed the game in the OBX relaxing....UGH,yes our Pk and PP has been a HUGE problem in the playoffs for many years, not going to beat that horse again....Not a bad season, didnt show up in the big games, lack of offense in big games as well.As far as recruiting goes, as mentioned we have well respected coaches, the BEST rink, great fan support, but that does not mean a trip to the Final Four or the NCAA'S,we can have the best players on paper, but thats why they play the games.Best of luck to Genny I think they will go far.......Go Lakers

I wonder how many seniors on all the D3 teams used or will use the xtra year???

It is looking like on Plattsburgh Matt Araujo and Rhett Kingston are using the year. Which means now the wait is to see if anyone transfers, but as of right now Plattsburgh Graduates 4 (2 F 1 D 1 G)

Mike Falanga 23 GP 0 G 7 A 7 Pts 25 PIM

Christian DiFelice 14 GP 5 G 3 A 8 Pts 14 PIM

Brandon Wells 1 W 0 L 1 T 2.91 GAA .852 SV %

Austin Anselmo Did not Play

As for the D1 transfers, we have not had a D1 transfer come in and put the team on his back, most, excluding Boots in the past decade or so come in and blend, some play 1st line others 4th line, have seen plenty ride the pine as well...That said they are of course welcome, but need to make their playing time, which I am sure coach does sees to it.As for the big guys with big #'s from certain leagues,it means zero until they lace them up and prove their worth.I do see that teams who do recruit from several leagues seem to do well.....I am sure Oz will re-load next season, but we may want to look in a few different directions....Go Lakers....p.s.....Roundball is the SWEET 16..........

Hence why Oswego will not win a championship in the new era of the game. Some coaches see talent, and some don't know how to coach it.

I am not to sure about not being able to coach it??? I think it's more about how the players deals with playing against 21-25yr olds vs playing against 16-19yr olds in jr's...some may take awhile to adapt, while others will not..

I always enjoy entertaining other views. Consequently, I wanted to confirm my thoughts so I went through all the teams in the NCAA tournament to review transfers from D1.

You have to realize that if a player goes D1 they played either in the USHL, BCHL or NAHL, which means they have talent. The average age per league USHL (18.72) BCHL (18.67) AND NAHL (19.7)

On the other point you brought up Boots. Interesting and somewhat proves my point.

In the 2011 – 2012 season, he was fourth in points on the team (28). After leaving Oswego he has played the following 10 years in the pros.

The players above him in points:

Whitelaw: 1 season in pros
Moodie: Never played in the pros
Rodrigues: 5 seasons in the pros
Boots: 10 Seasons and still playing

Wonder what these other coaches saw in Boots?

Teams in the tournament.

Adrian – 6 D1 Transfers (avg age 22.9) Looks like Krug has it figured out!

Goals - Assist = Points
Ruffin: 15 + 26 = 41 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] on team
Spondniak 15 + 19 = 34 4[SUP]th[/SUP] on team
Wendt 8 + 19 = 27 7th on team
Spagnuolo 8 + 9 = 17 12[SUP]th[/SUP] on team
Adeniyc (D) 1 + 8 = 9 18[SUP]th[/SUP] on team
Gray (G) 21 games

Utica: 3 transfers (avg age 23.03)
Scoville 5+12 = 17 13[SUP]th[/SUP] on team
Acasta 4+ 7 = 11[SUP]th[/SUP] on team
Parker 5 +5 = 10 15[SUP]th[/SUP] on team

Geneseo: 2 transfers (Avg age 22.72)
Cmunt 17 + 5 = 22 (1 point a game) 4[SUP]th[/SUP] on team
Wunder 1 + 16 = 17 10[SUP]th[/SUP] on team

Hobart: 1 Transfer (avg age 22.23)
Alexander 6 + 15 = 21 4th on team

Trinity: 1 transfer (avg age 22.1)
Pugliesse 15 games .922

None of the other teams has D1 transfers

Oswego: 6 D1 Transfers (avg age 22.5)
Nash – left after 5 games
Dickinson (D) 1 +10 = 11 7[SUP]th[/SUP] on team

Clegg 6 + 3 = 9 *only 17 games 11[SUP]th[/SUP] on team
Robillard (D) 4 + 2 = 6 15[SUP]th[/SUP] on team
Warmuth (D) 2+ 3 = 5 17[SUP]th[/SUP] on team
Green 9 games .889

So is it every Oswego Transfer and recruit who just excelled in juniors now can't produce or is it coaching to the how the game is played in the current enviroment?
