Oswego State Lakers.. 2021-2022...Let's get ready to...???

I think the majority of kids who transfer down from D1 to D3 were heavily recruited by D3 programs all along but ended up getting D1 opportunities with no guarantees of playing time. After contributing significantly in Juniors and then being a healthy scratch at the D1 level playing behind NHL draft picks they re-connect with D3 coaching staffs that were interested in them a year or two prior.

If a player is being recruited by low-end D1 or even walk on D1 opportunities, can pretty much go to any D3 school they want. The main takeaway is players choose D3 to play, and not be scratched.

yes experience tells me thats true, also after talking with some parents at Oz many of the top players were alsoD1 recruits, but when they walked into the Campus Center at Oz it changed many a mind...

Hence why Oz should dominate every year and that is not happening.

I'm not sure this is true, talking with the Geneseo coaches. A player has to fit your team's style of play and program culture. I don't see top DIII teams just grabbing any guy who had a DI offer. If they do, that can be really risky.

If you look at the strength of the programs at Plattsburgh and Oswego historically, and Geneseo more recently, you would think the conference would have two teams in the tournament more frequently. (Emery's retirement probably explains the drop in competitiveness at Plattsburgh, but I still think that's probably temporary.) I'm not trying to play up Geneseo or rub salt in the wound or anything. I think we all benefit from a more competitive conference.

It's been awhile since I wrote in but I read the fan forum pretty much everyday during the season. The Lakers had a decent season but obviously lacked the usually strong Oswego offense. The defense and goaltending was pretty good though for the most part. What we really needed was Dave Lair or Rick Pratt :). Then maybe throw in some some goons like Bo Ellis or Al Stycawitz (sp?). On a more serious note I heard through the grapevine that Danny Colabufo (Camillus/West Genesee) is transferring from Holy Cross for next season. He and his family were at the Brockport game earlier in the season and his dad is the longtime coach at WG. Unlike Utica they are a perennial powerhouse! :). Danny had good high school numbers but not sure about his stats at HC. His dad told me he just had back surgery though.

I think like most "posters" I have to think all the home teams tonight will probably survive and advance. Although I think Elmira might have something to say about that tonight in Geneva!

I see the Laker Men's roundball season came to an end last night. They hung tough with the #2 team in the country though! Laker athletics should be pretty proud. Hockey, basketball and even baseball are doing well on the national scene. The baseball program has been solid for many years (especially since Landers took over) and last I looked were rank 27th in the preseason poll and beat #1 Salisbury a few weeks ago down there. SUNYAC foe Cortland is #1 in the nation this week!!

Thanks for the insight on a local kid, but he will not add much value to the team. He had one year of juniors, NAHL, only 8 goals.

From Twitter World:
Oswego State men's hockey commit Cal Schell has been named the
@theSJHL
Sherwood Division Goaltender of the Year and the Sherwood Division MVP. Schell finished top five in GAA (2.39), save percentage (.923) and had 25 wins and 7 shutouts, which were 1st and 2nd in the league.

Heres the release from the league website--MVP too.

Cal Schell was named SJHL Sherwood Division Goaltender of the Year and Sherwood Division Most Valuable Player. Schell had a breakout season finishing in the top 5 in GAA (2.39) and SV% (.923). Cal’s 25 wins ranked second and his 7 shutouts was a league high. This season Cal broke the Bombers single season shutout record. Earlier in the season, Schell committed to Oswego State University (NCAA Division III).

If Green and Parent come back along with Schell, and I believe there was another goalie recruit, can't remember his name, who committed to Oswego that makes 4...something has to give??? Or maybe both net minders are not coming back??

Sounds very promising. Congrats!

We gotta do something to make it more of a horse race in 2022-23, you guys will be looking to repeat obviously.

We will lose a very strong group of seniors, especially leadership-wise, and two of our three All Americans. The juniors will really need to step up next year. Here's hoping there are two SUNYAC teams in the tournament next year!
