Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-2013....No Slogans, Just Hockey

So you're saying Canadians were going to Oswego for 3k a year?
No, I don't think so...the out of state tuition and fees is roughly $8,700...the room and board fees are roughly $6,300 which gets you to aprox $15,000... It was a room and board credit, from what I recall - where did you get your $12k number?

Still a long way to $47k, $49k, $55k....

Said right on the website international student grant 12k per year worth 48k over four years.

Don't forget we were in the same dilemma 4 years ago with 12/13 seniors and coach Gosek came up with this class. I am sure that we will see some transfers this December to help off set losing 14 players. Honestly this season is just getting started and we are worrying about next year....Shame on us.

Well if you were eligible for the full amount (I recall a requirement to live on campus to receive the "board" credit) - then your math could be right.... Moving forward, its reasonable to assume students looking at Oz are not focused on the $12k their neighbor got two years ago...they are thinking it's $35,000 LESS than Elmira (for example..) Either way, when you have a great school, the best rink in D3, rabid fan base, the best media coverage and a program that is always near the top of the pile, all you have is high-class problems....

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-2013....No Slogans, Just Hockey

I thought I could stir up some good Cardinal-Laker banter. You guys are slipping !! lol !!

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-2013....No Slogans, Just Hockey

It's more fun to argue amongst ourselves...:D Besides, there is plenty of time for that...

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-2013....No Slogans, Just Hockey

Clearly, you have yet to send a kid to college - aprox annual retail price - Oswego "out of state:" $15,000....Elmira $49.950....Norwich $47,000....St Norbert $39,000...Middlebury $55,550:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Anyone paying anything close to the sticker price at those schools, and particularly Middlebury, needs to get on the horn with Financial Aid immediately to figure out just where he/she accidentally stuck an extra zero on the FAFSA.

Guess I had heard differently that the scholarship problem was resolved and restored, but heck if I know - I just shoot the breeze with fellow Oz and D3 fans in general.:D

As for hustling in talent in the wake of the "exodus", Gosek himself is a draw, I would expect - he's an excellent recruiter and a mastermind coach.

That has an awful habit of Losing the big one. I think that if they are not able to win the SUNYAC and the National Title with the lineup they have this year then they will probably have a tough time getting the Grade A talent that they have been getting.

Thus why I'm at Siena, and not Elmira. Elmira was, far and away, my #1 choice school until I got the final say from financial aid...

(Numbers are all approximate, and have changed a bit since freshman year)

Elmira: $50,000 -$22,000 in aid = $28,000
Siena: $39,000 -$24,000 in aid = $15,000
Potsdam: $17,000 -$2,600 (???) in aid = $14,400

Plattsburgh would have cost me ~$900 per year living at home, but there were questions about the education program at the time.

The other thing with Elmira is that any student who was valedictorian or salutatorian of their high school class automatically enters with a fullride/75%-ride scholarship. Assuming they keep that scholarship throughout their 4 years... the rest of the paying students need to pick up the slack, which accounts a bit for the cost.

Oswego lost the 2011 semifinal.
They were beaten in the 2012 final.

Do not confuse lack of results with lack of effort.

As a #1 Seed in the SUNYAC they are 1 for 6 in since 2003-2004
They are 3 for 6 in the Pathfinder and 0 for 2 in other tournaments....

If you can't win the "little" ones how do you win the "big" one?? Like I said, Oswego (as the record has shown) does not do well in pressure (tournament) games.... 4 Championships out of 14chances...and thats not counting the 3 other times they lost in the SUNYAC Finals as the #2 seed.

Recruits are starting to notice......

as far as not winning some big games as mentioned ,correct ,BUT I dont think recruits looks at how many big games won or lost, it goes more back to ,rolls eyes, the whole, what does a recruit like/want....aide,education,friends,rink,girl to guy ratio:D if I remember Genny had the best,etc...lets get back to hockey asap...ps I dont think Oz will have ANY problem bringing in BIG recruits /transfers,they will play immediately, another BIG factor,no worries mates:cool:

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-2013....No Slogans, Just Hockey

OK, here's how this whol Cardinals-Lakers thing began (cue the wavy screen)....Way back in '80, Herb Hammond brought his overmatched Lakers in to our barn and spanked us thus winning the first SUNYAC title. The basic reason for the dislike for each other was because the majority of our players were french-speaking Quebecers and Herb was using kids from Ontario and Western NY>.

Over that summer, Hammond surprised everyone and bolted for the open Plattsburgh coaching position. Needless to say, our trips to Oswego turned in to ugly, bitter affairs with fans attacking us on the bench, in the hall and around the bus. At that time, both teams had players who still lead many offensive categories and reside in their respective Hall of Fame's (Lair, Flynn, Pratt, Kimura, D'Anjou, Strack, etc). Our comeback in the final game of 1981 propelled us to the 1st of many NCAA appearances (losing in the final to Lowell 5-4). The players changed out but the hard feelings remained thru the '80's. Laker fans began throwing bagels at our goalies after the first goal of the game while our fans used the lime green tennis balls (in tribute to the grotesque uniforms sported by the Lakers).

The game changed and so did the rivalry. Nowadays, the games are clean, fast hockey. It's a game that every player who ever suited up for either team gets up for more than any other. Its why you play college hockey. In recent years, I even found myself pulling for the Lakers if the Cards were eliminated!!

as a Oz player from 84 -87 I can say for sure there was hatred, but respect as well, I got thrown out of only 1 game in my career for fighting vs the birds....the 87 season didnt help some bitter feelings as well, but lets NOT get into that again.....and yes it is now a great game every time I visit the CC to watch whiteout weekend, with a nice following from Platty as well...I also remember the tennis balls pouring down onto the ice when Platty scored their first goal, not that I was on the ice when platty scored ever:p LOL...I also do root for the cards when out of confrence..ps I also remeber 4000+ at that rink

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-2013....No Slogans, Just Hockey

I was a little before that '79-83...I think Piromalli and Stahl were only 2 holdovers who you would have played against. Maybe the goalie Valliere too. I can remember driving to the rink for games vs. Oswego and the parking lot was already packed. Ten minute standing O for warmups!!
We taught those boys well!! No problem dropping the gloves in those days, eh? Anyway, Lair and Pratt were great players..goaltending problems hurt those teams. They were pounding some D1 teams as we were. We didn't care for Unger too much. Don't forget the great Ray Guay (from Plattsburgh) who played down there!! Maybe this year can be a rematch of that '87 final.......with the same result , of course !!!!
