Is it at 1000 that they close the thread? And is that a good thing to have your thread closed?

It's a good thing to have a fan base big enough to close out a thread. And, you need a long season to close out a thread

Well this thread is only 180 posts away from being closed. I could see it being closed before even the SUNYAC playoffs are over. All it takes is a few dedicated fans who post a lot.

You could call it "Our thread closed before Nowrich's". Assuming Oswego makes a run in the SUNYAC's and we have something to talk about

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-2013....No Slogans, Just Hockey

I know it's relatively irrelevant, but over the past few weeks, 4 teams have passed the 100 goal mark:
Oswego was the first to pass it on Saturday the 26th of January, in a game against Geneseo, and now stands at 104 goals. This was in the second period on a goal by Whitelaw.
Adrian was second to pass it on the same day, but during their third period so it was after Oswego. They too now stand at 104 goals.
Massuchesetts-Boston passed the mark at their 4pm game last Saturday and became the third team to pass the 100 goal mark, they now stand at 101.
St. Norbert got their 100th goal later that day in their game against Wisconsin-Superior. They stand at 100 goals.

Compare that to the 4 teams that have allowed 100 goals:
Morrisville
Framingham State
Elmira
Northland

Really says a lot about the teams, doesn't it?

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-2013....No Slogans, Just Hockey

Another thing that might be a little telling is the fact Oswego outscored their opponents 57 to 18 in their first 11 games. In their last 10 they have outscored them 47-21 which if you insert the 10 goal anomaly against Genny in their for the 11th game the offense is about the same. However the defense and goal tending have been fairly weak in the second half of the season and needs to improve for the stretch run. Hare needs to stop giving up the back breaking softies and the defense needs to stop all the turnovers and they also need to try to slow some teams down in the neutral zone. Even moderately skilled players can burn you if they are allowed to attack with speed through the neutral zone.

not sure whats the big deal with closing a thread??? thnks

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-2013....No Slogans, Just Hockey

For a hockey forum we sure talk about non-hockey things a lot.

Yep. I think for this weekends games the OZ theme song should be "Hold the Line" by aformentioned band Toto.

Hold the line boys, hold the line.....

I suppose it's a good indicator that a team is doing well and getting their fanbase excited and giving them things to talk about.

They gave us quite a scare in CC too last semester with a 5-4 clincher. They can't be overlooked. They're better than their stats give them credit for.

It says that good teams score goals and bad teams give up goals?!?

seeing as our thread was started October 20th, and theirs March 3rd, it doesn't matter if their thread closes first, it was started more than 7 months before ours, last season even. But as a matter of pride I suppose its cool that our thread will probably close first.

But your thread has more non-hockey content - it even has this old Norwich fan who comes in and talks about the golf course in a city that an Oswego fan lives in. Hardly hockey content :D

Oswego fans are so great that fans of other teams want to come over to our thread to hang out.

We welcome all fans of D3 hockey (regardless of team affiliation) into our "home", whether you choose to criticize, support, or just want to discuss the most under rated team in all of collegiate sports! (or to discuss golf) :p
