Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-13...Part 2..Because Norwich's thread didn't close 1st

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-13...Part 2..Because Norwich's thread didn't close

Any update on a potential broadcast from WTOP? Lou?
....this morning it was on life support, but I cannot confirm the plug has been pulled... There just isn't enough room, even for a "skinny" show, and with each conversation it was getting tighter and tighter.

Adrian will have their usual web-stream up (I don't know anything about it).

Mike and Connor will have the call on WNYO...

I feel bad for the WTOP crew, but let's face it - anything they could muster up on the road would not come close to the epic SUNYAC Finals they produced last Saturday night...

That is the crowning achievement of their legacy and it seems fitting that it be their final live hockey broadcast.

This was a fine year of broadcasting from both mediums, thank you guys.

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-13...Part 2..Because Norwich's thread didn't close

You realize you just contradicted yourself? You say to win or lose with class while doing the opposite. Please point out exactly what I said that was disrespectful in any way. Your post was far more disrespectful to me than anything I've posted since Saturday.

The only opinion I stated was that some Cardinal fans are putting the Lakers on too high a pedestal. That's a valid opinion. Instead of just congratulating the Lakers on a job well done, some Card fans immediately start nit picking all the millions of little things Oswego could have done but didn't (oh they only won because their first line is good but the rest suck, or they only won because their goalie had a hot night, or they didn't have enough freshmen to make it a fair fight, or they didn't win the regular season Plattsburgh games, etc.). That's not losing with class. That's just disrespectful.

When Oswego lost their games earlier this season it was because they weren't the better team on that particular day. Their opponents outplayed them, and although there were some great and memorable moments in those games, the opponents in those games worked hard and deserved their wins. Yet when Plattsburgh loses a game it's because the Lakers had a lucky night, or the Cardinals were having a bad night. Yeah, we can always nitpick little plays that could've "changed the game" but it doesn't matter. The game is over. The Lakers won when it really counted, and the Cardinals didn't. The Cards still had a great season and accomplished a lot, especially considering how many freshmen they had. They should be proud of the foundation they've set for the next 3 years and I look forward to seeing them play more in the coming years.

Be Loud
Be Proud
Be Positive[/QUOTE I meant no disrespect to the Oswego team. There has always been a great rivalry betwen these two teams over the years that I've watched both home and away and I enjoy the friendly banter we posters have each year. As for your comments in the past month I refer you to 2 of your posts:Feb.11,2013 concerning our win and the "statue of Chewy" and most importantly, your post of Feb.2,2013 and I quote"Hope Platty doesn't get a bid and no new banners and nothing to add to what they have. Platty will be knitting sweaters just 45 minutes from Lake Placid. " Worst of all, your last comment: " Oswego's season will look like a success and Platty's like a failure." These comments have been disturbing to me.

Educate me on the streaming rights. I understand tha the NCAA owns those rights and that all broadcasts have to go through their system.

yes of course, the 2 outfits are top shelf and look forward to every game they both call, and to the highlights as well,Next yr Ill bring a few more t-shirts up for the men and women at these fine organizations. best of luck to them in their broadcasting careers. Mike I will put on NYO on saturday for sure, and I dont want to hear to many goal calls for the dogs.

NCAA allows for early rounds to be broadcast on radio, tv and the web. Fees for commercial broadcasts are moderate ($1,000 a game) Non-commercial/ student broadcasts are free. Application paperwork is standard and pro forma...for semis and final they grant rights for radio but retain rights for their own video stream on NCAA.com, although to be honest I have never inquired if they would grant additional video rights for semis and final.

Perhaps you didn't mean disrespect to the Oswego team, but you obviously meant disrespect to me. As for posts from over a month ago, I already addressed people's concerns with that a few posts later in that thread. I had just recently joined the forums and was still getting used to the type on conversations on it. I apologized and everyone else moved on with their lives. I was referring to the CURRENT conversation about THIS game. I was unaware that you were holding a grudge from so long ago.

That was quick! Didn't even have a chance to get home to discuss making the trip, as their gone! Good for the fortunate few with tickets!

I was skeptical, but am properly thrilled with this news. Sold out! Headed west, and now plenty of vocal power behind the bench. Sounds great so far!

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-13...Part 2..Because Norwich's thread didn't close

After reading these particular blogs, it is the reality of the moment that there is a factor both in Oswego and Plattsburgh that dislike each other. Some for good reasons and some for bad reasons.
One example that reflects this is a moment when oswego lost there semi-final game in Placid two years ago . For three rows behind where we were sitting there was a large contingent from Platty. Every mistake, be it a penalty, or icing these platty's fans stood up and loudly cheered and clapped. My wife remarked that it was
a western team playing a SUNYAC team. But thats the way it is. I would be the last person to mention anything about poor sportmanship, on or off the ice.
But there is also a factor in Oswego and Plattsburgh that really seeing great hockey. To those fans I salute.
Anyone that had the pleasure of seeing these two teams play this year, got there money worth.
Without any doubt, we here in the East need to see a win this weekend/////////////////////

If you're talking about the 2010 St. Norbert semifinal, was there that weekend, although not a part of the Plattsburgh contingent to which you are referring, and I will say that I was disgusted by the behavior of some of the Oswego fans around me...

Screaming profanities at the ref every time a call went against Oswego, even when it was painfully obvious to everyone else that the call was correct. Threatening referees and PLAYERS of the other team (but mostly just referees) with physical violence. When Oswego scored, I recall hearing one shout something along the line "How's it feel to get scored on, you midwestern p***ies?" And If I recall, Oswego never held a lead in that game, so there's no justification for putting a team down like that because of a goal, when your team is still not winning (not that there's ever a justification). Basically, trying everything they could to get kicked out.

I went there fully intending to cheer for a Plattsburgh-Oswego championship game. That group of laker fans convinced me otherwise. Oh, and a few of them stuck around and heckled Plattsburgh the same way in the evening game, until the Norwich fans told them to shut up and quit making fools of themselves... They just left at that point.

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-13...Part 2..Because Norwich's thread didn't close

In my opinion it seems as though the rivalry between the two teams isn't anywhere near where it used to be. As a former player, i have experienced many heated games with plattsburgh. there was a true hatred for the player standing across from me. i have seen many games through the years and it seems that true hatred is missing. I couldnt believe my eyes saturday night after the game watching emery and gosek embrace each other at center ice. back in the day there were many games where oz and platts coaches wouldnt even shake hands. It is nice that each team respects each other so much but i think the games were a little more fun and a little more chippy back in the day. I think backdraft would ptobably agree with me

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-13...Part 2..Because Norwich's thread didn't close

I think it says a lot about both programs the amount of respect one has for the other...Oswego has had a very good run as of late, but anyone paying attention knows the benchmark of the league is Plattsburgh...when you have been to more than 20 consecutive conference finals....wow. Having said that, I root for Oswego to win every game...and I might just root a bit harder when the opponent is the Cardinals.... As far as *****Hole Fans....every team has them...sad but true.

Re: Oswego State Laker Hockey 2012-13...Part 2..Because Norwich's thread didn't close

I think a lot of the "respect" also comes from the fact Oswego has recruited from the same area. It seemed for year Plattsburgh was all Canadian and Oswego was mostly American. I remember several "USA" chants back in the days of Romney....players are old friends from junior leagues now days....that and Oswego is a decent team and not the step brother of Plattsburgh. FA will do that for you. ... ;)

Generally when I head up to the CC for Oswego vs. Plattsburgh, the Laker fans are pretty nice and respectful. The people we were sitting next to were very nice. However, the fan sitting in front of me was a disgrace. I am not exaggerating ... "Rip their heads off!" (talking about Plattsburgh), "Break their arms!"; and during the timeout that Plattsburgh called..."We are going to do play dirty, we are going to do everything we are not supposed to do",(referring to what Emery was supposedly saying during the timeout). What a shame, that guy needed to get a clue, I guess the Cardinals are always the least penalized team in DIII by playing dirty! Ha!.

To be realistic, someone on this thread mentioned that the first two calls on Plattsburgh were iffy. I don't know about that. Smith clearly committed a charging penalty, there were clearly too many men on the ice, and Brenton clearly should have been called for a dive (anyone else see the smirk on his face when he skated back to the bench, thinking he drew a penalty on the Lakers?) But to call them dirty and spew nonsense like that, I would be ashamed if I were the other Laker fans sitting in that section. My wife was willing to bet this was the same guy who got into the altercation in last years SUNYAC finals.

I'll take that bet... the individuals involved last year were not at the rink this year...
