If you're bringing a kid to a hockey game and you don't want him to hear foul language, you should probably get a seat far far away from the student section. Apparently you weren't far enough away. Somewhat foul chants have been a part of the Oswego student section's arsenal for at least as long as the Lakers have been playing in CC (maybe Romney too, I'm not sure it was before my era).

In short, to take a kid to an Oswego hockey game, and then complain about what the kid hears is ridiculous. It's like taking your kid to a wrestling match and then complaining about all the violence. Or taking your kid to a strip club and complaining about the nudity.

I'm sure you're a nice guy and you probably didn't mean it this way. I'm more upset at the many infuriated parents I've seen who yell at the students and frantically cover their kids' ears whenever they start a chant. I saw one parent actually complain to an usher. Give me a break. It's a hockey game, not the Disney Icecapades.

First of all, since you turned my entire post into me complaining about my son hearing swear words, he goes nowhere near the student section. We sit on the other side. If you think people on the other side can't hear the students, you're insane. And don't tell me the chants aren't new, ok? I've been following the team for 15+ years. I had season tickets in Romney and have had season tickets since the CC opened. I know what the students say and I know how much wilder it was in the Romney days. :rolleyes:

I've never complained to anyone about anything the students say. I've never said a word to a student or an usher. What my point was, which you obviously missed, was that is was classless of the students to yell at the Plattsburgh players as they left the ice. All I said about my son was that I had to change the subject when he asked me what the students were saying. But way to read into my post and pick out the exact wrong thing to respond to.

Anyway...the boys left for Michigan this morning. Gonna be a great game Saturday.:D

I wasn't mad at you in particular, just some other fans I've seen that bring kids and then complain. It's just a serious pet peeve for me. I'm sure you're a great person and a great parent. It's nothing personal. You just reminded me of those other people that do upset me.

The Oswego game did not see the best oswego game until late in the thied period, when we tied the game with 39 seconds on the clock. A defensive mistake allowed the freshman Cody from Norbit to get behind our defense at the blue line and on a break went in and scored the winning goal . It was a great hockey play and devastating to Oswego. What I remember was your fans on their feet screaming and clapping as though their team just won the national champ.
None of this means anything. Oh yeah mine is bigger than yours and all that crap.
What is important is to remember is that all Oswego fans and all Platty fans are not like that. Alot of them want to see great hockey and not anyone get hurt.

Yea, every team has them, I know that. And I don't think for a second that every Oz fan is like that, and I in fact have gotten along with some of them quite well...

But there's a difference between cheering for the team that's playing your rival (I will NEVER cheer for the Red Sux) and telling the ref that you're gonna "take him out back and give hm what he deserves".

For the record, I was sitting nowhere near any other Plattsburgh fans, so we were clearly if different parts of the rink, and saw different sections of the fanbases.

Anyway, best of luck to the lakers this weekend. Adrian's not an easy rink t play at... Elmira knows that...

The best fans don't need to result into profanity and use other teams "chants/sayings" to get a point across...JMO.....I do find it funny tho that Oswego administration likes to come down into the visitor section and ask people to "keep it down", yet we all know what goes on at the other end. And when confronted, are then told "It's freedom of speech".....

The above doesn't mean the Oswego students are the worst, or not likable, and compared to the old Romney days are on the verge of being "PG" and almost "G". New buildings and sensitive administration will do that to you. Look at Middlebury. Ever since they went to the new rink their "student" section is probably the biggest transformation from a wild crowd to hand warmers.

What I can't stand are the idiots who when down by 3 or 4 goals, and their team finally scores still goes off on the "you ****" chants. *cough cough* RIT. Yelling "sucks" after they announce the goal scorer and any assists (or what ever they yell) when you're losing by 3 is just moronic. My thought was always if they suck so bad, what's that say about your team?

Anyways, continue on, end of rant....

I too am getting old, and with age comes the maturity that separates kids from adults, yes kids (aka students) will be kids, and they will use profanity as a means of self-fulfillment, until, with luck, the day comes when at last they are self-confident enough to become adults. The use of profanity is at best self-deprecating, but alas kids will be kids (and yes, I was once one too - but that doesn't make it any more mature). With age (and deeper pockets), I now prefer to show my school's colors, to make donations, buy season tickets, wear their apparel, travel to away games and yes, to shout out encouragement and voice my displeasure when a call sucks, but resorting to the language of George Carlin in a public place is never appropriate or warranted. My sincere 2 cents.

I like the Eau Claire chant the other night, when St Johns got a penalty they chanted" you cant do that" "you cant do that"..pretty funny and gets the idea across

Oswego student section has been doing that chant for years. If the penalty was particularly egregious, they chant "a$shole". It's fun stuff :-)

Ive been to the last 5 white out weekends at the CC didnt hear it,or missed it ,I do like it for sure

Class Clown - still my favorite Carlin album/cd...as a freshman DJ on WOCR (now WNYO) I was always tempted to play "7 Words You Can Never Say On Television", figuring my defense would be "I'm on the RADIO"...Roker wasn't laughing - he locked it up in the office "vault" (the only closet with a lock on it)...
