Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

EDIT - if Mike says they came in 09-10, he would know....but I think they did do a game that the school paid for the first year the building was open.

I think you're right Lou. I believe they were there in the first season, but I'm not sure if it was for that first game against Utica or the NCAA game against Norwich. I do remember seeing Oswego at Potsdam on TWCS in January of 08, though, for sure.

As much as I would like to see this happen, the largest portion of the Plattsburgh area is serviced by Charter Communications. I am not sure how well they would work an agreement with TWC.
if charter has access points to the TWC network, it would be very easy. And since no money is changing hands I think it would be quite doable if the technical link exists....call charter and ask....

Andrew and Lou are right on.

TWCS did the Utica/Oswego home opener game the first year the building was open because I remember the TWCS announcers talking about Musselwhite's speed on this play:

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Where were these postgame parties when I was around Lou??!! ;)
hey, you are eligible - it was mostly WTOP and WNYO alums along with some assorted locals.... There is a much more tame event for the students who staff the annual O'Donnell Media Summit and we include the WTOP/WNYO crowd...but this last "episode" at TheShed would not have been mistaken for tame...

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

You would think this would be a no brainer for them to distribute statewide - and i have talked to everyone at the corporate and divisional level since we started pumping games out of the Campus Center...it just doesn't seem to get anywhere...the swath from the North Country down to Binghamton including Elmira to the west and Oneonta to the east is automatic...but Rochester, Buffalo and Albany have been issues, primarily due to schedule conflicts (RIT package in Rochester in particular - yes, it IS RIT's fault!)....can't get downstate NYC's attention at all...not even on a delay...but we keep trying....get a couple more SUNYAC schools invested in production capabilities similar to Oz, we could package a SUNYAC game of the week with conference playoffs - shop it to TWC, SNY, MSG....
Thanks for the inside info, would be great to see it on T.V. for sure even with a delay......

Haha. I'd promote that showdown and sell tickets to it if those two squared off in a fastest skater competition. It'd be fun to watch for sure.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Wow. SUNYAC hockey finals and NCAA D-III men's basketball second round (hopefully with Oswego taking part) are both Saturday night at 7 at Oswego. I wonder if the crowd at Laker Hall will suffer because of it, again, presuming the Lakers make it to the second round.

Yea, that's a shame they scheduled them at the same time. I think the basketball crowd will suffer far more than hockey. The Plattsburgh/Oswego hockey game is easily the most attended sporting event on campus each year.

It's also too bad that diehards can't do both, though. The NCAA clearly didn't do their homework on this one... Shocking.

It gives people a slightly better chance at getting tickets by taking a hundred or so away from the whiteoutX2 game

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I can tell you WTOP lobbied HARD for a 4pm tipoff...to no avail

I'm sure they did. It makes sense. A basketball/hockey doubleheader would be awesome. Perhaps the NCAA is scheduling all 1st/2nd round games at the same time. And we know how the NCAA is at making exceptions.

As money centered as they are I would have thought they would schedule for the maximum amount at both gates! They just want to keep us guessing.

I would think NCAA would be concerned about the late games winner turning around on several hours less rest. Oh well...all we can say is GO LAKERS!
