Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Great highlights, as always.

Did anyone else have a problem with Friesen being pulled with 3:00 to go? I didn't see the point in it. Sure, he gave up 8 goals, but you're down 5 in what is your last game of the season...and you pull your starter with 3:00 to go? Clearly, Friesen wasn't happy. He got to the bench, chucked his stick and went to the locker room.

I don't think it was fair that Fredonia had to skate uphill the first and third periods.... #someonelevelthetripod

I would have pulled him after Brown scored to make it 4-1. Friesen has been pulled in four of his six career starts against Oswego and his confidence against them seems to be shattered. If nothing else it might have got the team going a little bit more to put Holloway in at that point. In the end though Fredonia just doesn't have the horses to keep up with this Oswego team.

I thought Friesen was being left out by himself a few times by his defense. Almost automatically after he swung his stick in frustration at the crossbar was he replaced. I think they wanted to stay with him because they rode him all season. Sure if they wanted to pull him, they probably should have done it earlier but I think it was pure discipline and not necessarily a means of 'you gave up to many'

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Quick question, for those of us fortunate enough to have Time Warner Cable, will the SUNYAC Championship be broadcast like the semi final against Fredonia was?

Ok. I didn't see that. I wondered if something prompted him to be pulled. I couldn't figure out why you would pull the goalie with 3:00 to go.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

If he was hauled down from behind on a clear break away, it is an automatic penalty shot. (unless he scores) The key here is "Clear Breakaway"

Just saw the replay. I was wrong, I really didn't remember it that bad with my "green and gold colored glasses" on. Someone must have walked in front of me and blocked my view during the play?????;)

Last I heard, if the Lakers advanced and hosted the Championship, TWC was planning on broad distribution...WTOP and Oswego SID should confirm early in the week.

I think you have to get the Time Warner Cable Sports Network...not just TWC.

Lou will certainly know better than me but I think TWCSN is more of an upstate thing isn't it? I know Rochester, Syracuse, Central NY and Albany get it...

You would think this would be a no brainer for them to distribute statewide - and i have talked to everyone at the corporate and divisional level since we started pumping games out of the Campus Center...it just doesn't seem to get anywhere...the swath from the North Country down to Binghamton including Elmira to the west and Oneonta to the east is automatic...but Rochester, Buffalo and Albany have been issues, primarily due to schedule conflicts (RIT package in Rochester in particular - yes, it IS RIT's fault!)....can't get downstate NYC's attention at all...not even on a delay...but we keep trying....get a couple more SUNYAC schools invested in production capabilities similar to Oz, we could package a SUNYAC game of the week with conference playoffs - shop it to TWC, SNY, MSG....

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

The Syracuse lacrosse game was on Time Warner Sports in NYC today which I found to be both interesting and awesome. On the other hand, I was subjected to the awful officiating in the final two minutes. No matter, though - Cuse came away with the 10-9 victory over Army.

I think that would be fantastic. I believe Oswego had a game on Time Warner Cable Sports either last season or the season before. The TV timeouts were killer. But correct me if I'm wrong, but someone had told me they don't do it often because the home team has to pay to have TW come do the game, since they don't use the existing facilities. They bring their own truck, gear and announcers. Perhaps the cost isn't worth it?

It was 09-10 SUNYAC Semis vs. Morrisville

TWCS came the year the Campus Center opened...money was exchanged...the coverage was no better than what WTOP puts out...chalk it up to the college wanting to show off the new building. No reason to go down that road now - TWCable has supported broad distribution of WTOP on top of the Athletic Dept.'s web streams...I have had informal talks with SNY and MSG - perhaps a little competition will help move this along.

The comm/broadcast curriculum in the School of Communications, Media and the Arts married with the capabilities and facilities of student run WTOP are the best option for the Lakers. Efforts have been focused on broader TWCable digital channel distribution - they have been on TWCS using the WTOP feed when the schedule permits, but only upstate... There are ongoing talks to improve campus infrastructure that will enhance WTOP's broadcasts of basketball and other sports on the south side of 104...also addressing options to maintain coverage continuity during winter and spring breaks...

And then there is WNYO...the full schedule home AND away...and complete NCAA D3 coverage of ALL games...I would put Mike, Zach, Scott and the boys in the studio up against any student or pro team covering D3 hockey - these guys know their stuff - the best at what they do by a wide margin.

EDIT - if Mike says they came in 09-10, he would know....but I think they did do a game that the school paid for the first year the building was open.

As much as I would like to see this happen, the largest portion of the Plattsburgh area is serviced by Charter Communications. I am not sure how well they would work an agreement with TWC.
