Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I don't think he will strip Mather of the "C" formally. But, it would be nice for Whitelaw or Boots who seemed to keep their composure all the way through the game to step up and right this ship. I don't see why other wont adopt the style of play that Neumann, Morrisville, and Hobart have used so far. The word is definitely out on how to defeat the mighty Lakers. Also do you think any of the guys have got the memo of not shooting into a mass of yellow jerseys?

I agree with you on Whitlaw but not Boots. Whitlaw has been nothing but a great player for the Lakers. His Freshman year with him and Lags on the powerplay it was terrific. That says alot for a Freshman to be on the first powerplay team. If I could vote for the teams MVP it would be Whitlaw. He has just gotten better every year and it a true team player. He if fortunate to be playing with two other "team" players which has evelated his line to be the most productive one for the lakers.

There's a reason he was the Junior A Player of the Year in Canada :)

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I think Boots can be a leader for the Lakers. In games when they need a spark he needs to score more goals like he got against Connecticut College instead of trying to make passes to guys that didn't seem to come to play.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

With the way the Lakers have played in the SUNYAC tourny or shall we say havn't played, these next few NC games are going to be HUGE!

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Remy, the way they have been playing lately is exactly the way the have been playing in the SUNYAC's for almost as long as I have been following them. Trying to force everything, holding onto the puck too long in front of the net and just getting beat in the corners and to all the loose pucks. And you are 100% correct these next couple of NC games are going to be huge but I think more for their confidence going forward than for their NCAA chances.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

I was just looking over the Oswego box scores when I noticed Mather gained 38 fantasy points this weekend. 37 of which were penalty minutes. What is it with coaches not benching players after a game misc? I picked on Castleton enough for it, its time for the Oswego coaching staff to start making examples of thier players. Maybe, just maybe Oswego would stop taking so many STUPID penalties?!?!?! Plattsburgh played shorthanded nearly half of the first semester because of discipline sanctions. Win or lose Friday night Gosek should be sitting A LOT of players. Wether the penalties were warranted or not, a 10 minute misconduct penalty can not happen. If you hold your players accountable, they will most likely not take them. SENIOR and CAPTAIN Kyle Kudroch recieved a game DQ vs. Brockport for a HFB and was scratched the next night against Geneseo. This while being the team leader in points at the time. The whole "every team has players who break their sticks" is weak at best. I've seen Emery sit players for slamming the doors to the bench. The Lakers need to right their ship of penalty problems. They took 1 penalty in the Plattsburgh game and it showed in the result. In Oswego's other 2 losses and tie they averaged 9 penalties for 34 minutes. Gosek needs to send a message, and with the Plattsburgh JV team coming into the Campus Center Friday. They (Oswego who is 14th) will be entertaining the 25th and 27th most penalized teams in DIII next weekend. I think its time to start calling on Gosek to start making examples of players. Oswego deserves to see better.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Remy I agree with you that Coach needs to sit some of his players but I don't think it will happen
unfortunately. He seems to be very lax with his top players. Just look at the last couple of years with Seleck, Fox, Boots this and last year. I don't know. It seems that the penatly situation gets worse. It's not like these players are true freshmen of 18 yrs of age. They are in their early 20's and should know better. This will be the Lakers fall from grace for they are so talented.
I would like to hear what past members of the teams have to say from Unger, to Roll and Gosek. Any thoughts Bakdraft.

I spoke with a former Plattsburgh State standout who transfered to a different school. He went from the strict Emery lockerroom to a much more loose coach and I believe the quote was "hated every minute of it". I know what you mean about the 18 year olds vs 20+, but obviously what Gosek is teaching (dicipline wise) is NOT working. Favorites will not only bite you on the scoreboard, but will divide a lockerroom like no other. Not only that, but what does that tell incoming recruits? Sometimes taking a loss with 12-15 players on the bench sends a bigger message then holding your arms and winning racking up penalties along the way. You have to look at the long picture of not only the regular season, but post season and future seasons. We've debated this arguement time and time again, and I will always stand firm on the coaching style of Emery over just about anyone. It just makes me sick as a "hockey fan" when you see coaches just let things go like this. When does it stop? Obviously I don't have the inside scoop in the Laker lockerroom, but has anyone brought this up to Gosek? Does he seemed concerned or is it more "as long as we are winning...."??

When you pull on that jersey, you represent yourself and your teammates. And the name on the front is a hell of alot more important than the one on the back! Get that through your head! - Herb Brooks

Mather should probably sit against Curry. The hit from behind on Friday was a weak call and I don't think he deserved the misconduct Saturday but as the captain he should not be giving the refs a chance to make those calls. Rodrigues and Brown seemed to follow his lead by letting the Knights and the Refs get to them. Gertsakis was the victim of a very weak call but maybe Remy is right, sitting all of them could go a long way in Eddie getting control of the team again.

As I said, it shouldn't matter how warranted a call is, you dont put yourself in that posistion. As I said Ive seen many times a questionable call and Emery still sits them. Its amazing what knowing "you will sit if you do it" gets you. Probably why Plattsburgh has been one of the lease penalized teams (and probably more so for 5 min majors) over the years.

Well just bak form vacation and ugh lost in the Champ game....as far as Unger he was not big on the benching thing from what I remember, we had a few off ice problmes but the senior guys took care of it, we policed our selves we had a team first attitude and that is what took us so far, Unger was a BIG guy 6 8" and when he gave you a look you got the point ...I am all for sitting a guy down as Remy said, and I dont care if you have to sit them against Utica, Platty or any other team...it was said b4 these are 21,22,23yo men NOT 18yo..suck it up and take one for the team...ps as far as I am concerned, they should play all the frshman, sit the upperclassmen and let them see what hungry hockey players look like, and check their egos at the door next time they get bak on the ice...I think a BIG drop in the polls will shrink their heads a bit...

Remy love the Herb quote but when we beat him in the semis when he was at St Cloud St, he walked off the ice and didnt shake our hands....Ill never forget it....and we move on:D

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

One of the worst games I've watched in 30+ years of being a Lakers fan. I could take the loss- but not attitude. I would sit two or three players for the entire weekend against Curry and Utica, **** the consequences. What do you think would happen for something similar at Plattsburg (covered above), or, God forbid- Norwich? I watched the Bills game this afternoon, Galey sat Johnson for most of the game after a stupid "excessive celibration" display. The Bills suffered badly for it on the field, but I have a lot more respect for Galey now. I listened to the Coaches Corner interview with Digby after the game. He was asked about the tounglashing the players must have gotten in the locker room after the game. He said something along the lines of "Oh, we don't need to do that, they're all in their early 20's, not a bunch of 17-year olds, they understand...". Well that's my school they're representing with their conduct out there. They were outplayed, the reffing wasn't a factor. Suck it up and don't act like a spoiled 17-year old.

It was pretty clear by the second period that they weren't going to put one past the Neumann goalie by shooting at him. They had to get him moving and were unable to do that. Neumann was impressive-all aspects of their game. We were not.

A handfull of our players displayed a total lack of class and self discipline. It reflected poorly on our Institution in a public setting. They should feel the repercussions- "C's" or not..

THANKS for the post, it summed it up for me, after not being able to lsten to the game, I checked the box score and I am with you, as a former player I am embarrassed just reading these posts...a loss is a loss move on with some dignity and class, if I was in the lockeroom there would be some players called out I could promise you that...Gosek has the ball now and lets see whats what...lets hope for a better showing in the coming weeks, thats what great about hockey, you have a chance at redemption...

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Highlights from Round 1 of Pathfinder:

To all @ WNYO thnks for the effort!!!! Just wondering if Neumann played the same style in both games?? There has been talk of how to beat the Lakers with the trap/3men bak system i.e. Hobart.??? Not sure a team can change for 1 game and play a different system that well?? thnks again and see ya in Feb..

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

No trap from Neumann, it was all straight line hockey which is Oswego's bread and butter but they just didn't seem up to playing that game. I don't know if it's ego's, lack of conditioning or whatever but they just simply do not do all the little things you need to do to win games. They let CC and Neumann cycle the puck for over a minute on several occasions and never laid a glove on a single player the whole time, that should never happen.
