Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

The one thing I notice from the video...

Listed attendance...2240..... WHERE :eek::eek:
...start with the season ticket total...roughly 1500 (whether they were in the building or not...add tickets sold for both games that day...consider all the folks from the first game that left....round up for all the freebies handed out to local youth teams....yeah, its still a bogus number!

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Not too mention how they sit on their hands for pretty much the whole game. Not saying that was why the Lakers lost, but they could have used the crowd behind them. The students definitely provide a boost/spark for this team when it is needed. I was thoroughly disappointed with the crowds both nights. The only time they cheer is when they scored (on Friday) or when an opposing player was going to the box. So, I guess everybody in the building wearing green and gold performed horribly Saturday. As for myself my hands are tied and am unable to cheer.

*None of what I said about the "townies" is new but just wanted to put it out there again.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Its no joke, their actually very good, so is nuemann though and any team can beat any other on any given night. Stick around and you'll see they can be quite the force when they're on their game.

But in the national semifinal and the SUNYAC semis they did not. That is what is driving people nuts.

Cripes, on a good night with all the stars aligned and the opposition playing its backup and resting starters, Salem St. can beat Norwich. But no way in heck can they beat them straight up if Norwich is hitting on all cylinders.

Thats the thing with hockey, all it takes is a hot goalie for an upset.

Normally I would agree with you, but when you are what? 1-5 in the SUNYAC playoffs as the #1 seed over the past 9 years. I think Plattsburgh has lost once as they #1 seed in 30 years, and that really wasn't even a loss...it was two ties and a mini game loss to Potsdam. I dont know, I just think its deeper then just a "hot goalie".......

that was more in reference to the Salem state-Norwich thing... If memory serves me a hot goaltender from Cortland shut out Plattsburgh last year even with Plattsburgh more than doubling the SOG.

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Plattsburgh isn't 1-5 as the #1 seed in the playoffs either. I've seen several games where Plattsburgh has dominated shots and loss because of a hot goaltender, and on the flip side I've seen several times where Plattsburgh has been outshot 2:1 and still won a game. Every season Oswego has a "brockport" game as I call them....but I'd still be more worried about what happens in the post season then a Morrisville-esk tie. As I pointed out in the other thread, every team but Norwich and Castleton have a loss and or tie to an unranked team. It happens. And like I've said, just because you win, does not make you the "better" team. We've argued this year in year out. Anyone who's actually played sports, especially hockey, knows what I'm talking about. Couch potatoes maybe not so much. I remember seeing Livestats (sorry I was listening to WIRY or would have had WNYO on) showing Oswego with an almost 3:1 shots of goal advantage over Neumann. I'd love to see the shots on goal Neumann had 5 on 5 compared to power play shots. Yes, Neumann won the game. Yes, Oswego loss the game. 5 on 5 with some team discipline I'd still take Oswego over Neumann 99% of the time. Like I said, I've seen several times where Plattsburgh has been shooting and shooting and shooting only to barely win, tie or even lose a game (a-la Cortland last year).

Re: Oswego State Hockey 2011-2012 Season

Remy, Oswego had more shots than Neumann but many of the shots were so appallingly weak it looked like the whole team had the flu. They have been very lethargic most of the year and lack a player that can just take over to get them going. Neumann was not really all that impressive, making a lot of dumb plays but Oswego let them get away with it. Neumann has some decent speed but they never really did much on the rush, it was Oswego's lack of aggression in the defensive end that led to their goals.

If you look at Oswego's playoff efforts in the last several years you will see they did their best work when their backs were against the wall. In 04-05 and 05-06 they lost to Plattsburgh which I don't consider a bad loss because they simply have a knack for winning when it counts. In 08-09 they had to win the SUNYAC's to get an NCAA bid and they beat Geneseo before they ever got off the bus. In 07-08 same thing, they had to win to get in and handled Freddy pretty easily despite the best efforts of Kevin Amborski in goal. Of course both times they lost to Platty in the finals as that team had a hard time beating the Cardinals after the last regular season game in Romney.

In 06-07 they had the at-large in hand and they lost to a Fredonia team they easily handled in the regular season. Last year they were in the same boat, beat Fredonia twice then fell into the trap and lost in the semi's having to fall back on the at-large again. Their only triumphs as the number 1 seed since I have been following them were in 02-03 (the best TEAM Oswego as had since I have been following them) and in 09-10 when they were saved from defeat by the line of Neil Musselwhite, Brad Dormiedy and Tyler Leimbrock in the semi's before torching Plattsburgh's weak goaltending in the final.

What all of this tells me is either Eddie brings in the wrong type of players or his motivational tactics do not work when it is time to put it all on the line. Or they just suffer the same fate as my favorite Football team, the Minnesota Vikings, it doesn't matter who is coaching or playing they just cant get it done in the playoffs. At least Oswego has won a few titles unlike the Vikings.

Ironically enough, I'm pretty sure Plattsburgh has outshot Oswego in every head to head game in the past 6, none of which they have won.

EDIT: just checked to be sure and the lone exception was last season's game at Stafford... most of the time it's been Plattsburgh by a large margin.

I said this in a post or 2 last yr...I think the types of players that he brings in are mostly the same, BECAUSE the majority I believe come from the the same few leagues that play the same open style hockey, and then when Oz is faced with a tight checking team, mville, frddy, hobart, neumann they give them fits and losses, hate to live in the past but my team87', that went to the BIG GAME had many players from all over the states with different styles of play, but we then also played as a team ...I just think the recruiting should be more varied, but I am sure that is hard to do in D3...ps we only had 1 canadien on my 87'team, I think this a topic last yr as well....again we have only lost 2 lets see what curry and utica bring:confused:

It was not the Adrian hot goalie. Adrian's seniors outplayed Oswego's seniors. The Fredonia game was a defensive brain fart that left the forward uncovered in the slot. Championship caliber teams DO NOT commit brain farts or have their seniors a non factor in a national semifinal.
