Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

Lets not forget this Laker team is coming off a loss to Geneseo guys.

I think Oswego was going to be motivated for whoever they were getting.

Granted I think Relkoff may be the best goalie in the SUNYAC, even the best goalie won't be able to stop a p/oed Laker team IMHO.

As I've said before, Morrisville third and fourth lines can barely skate. Their top two lines are solid and Relkoff is great, but that is a recipe for disaster against Oswego who rolls four lines and has goal scorers on EVERY LINE.

Look for the top line to have a big night accounting for at least three or four goals.

I still pray that was just a case of overlooking the last weekend and cruising into the playoffs - it may prove to be an extra game penalty come the NCAA, but...that remains to be seen. Just hope the guys absolutely hammer Morrisville - standing there and watching the Geneseo Genocide was painful.

Ring 'em up Lakers - ring 'em up.

WTOP's coverage of Laker Hockey stands up to Time Warner Cable and any other local outfit.....and yes, they show replays...always have, always will.... and they will be streaming every home game from here on out.

I wouldn't go that far. WTOP is pretty awful, I'd rather listen to Solly call a game any day than watch WTOP attempt to cover a game.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but you can't find another D3 college that puts on a better student produced show.... :)

Having spent the last 30+ years in the media and broadcast business with more than a couple Stanley Cups and Olympic tournaments to show for it, there are more than a handful of professional, regional broadcasters that don't measure up to the show WTOP puts on....

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

While I give them props for having a decent program going on over at WTOP, WNYO has the stronger staff, and the better production. While WTOP may be good in comparison to other regional stations, they're still out shined by WNYO.

You're kidding me right?

So which slot is your radio show in and on what day?

Get a clue.

The only thing WNYO had going for them was Maloney and now that he's gone your goose is cooked.

When's the last time WNYO won the pitcher?

This is really just laughable. Go back to the game threads from the beginning of the season to see what people thought of WNYO just a few short months ago.

So, no offense to WNYO, because we are part of the same media family. But with the absence of Ryan Maloney calling the games, I have been bombarded with questions (moreso earlier on in the season) of when WTOP will regularly stream games because fans are not happy with WNYO's broadcast. Just because I call the games on WTOP and co-produce the shows, I take this as an unnecessary personal attack not just on me but the rest of my crew. I would like to know what you dislike about WTOP's broadcast... we have been making improvements every year since we started broadcasting hockey game 30+ years ago. Any fool can see that! So please, enlighten me!

Hm, I wonder if WNYO has replays...

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

Its easy to say to come down on some of the sub par performances on WNYO because there truly has been a drop off in quality but that is what happens when you literately have to build a broadcast team from scratch. At the end of the day the purpose of the station is to provide a real world experience for students to hone their skills. NOT to be perfect. Plus when WTOP begins to cover away games let me know.

YES!!! EXACTLY!!!! So when anyone criticizes either station, I'd like to know why!

Re: Oswego State 2009-10 Regular Season Thread

I have never been part of WNYO, and as for what is wrong with the people on WTOP, my biggest problem is with the quality of the camera crew. They don't follow the puck well, and have a habit of making the game look amateurish at best. My other big issue is with the people doing the intermission reports. The conversation between the four is bland, there is little to no chemistry, often it seems like they're just starring off into space, and I get the feeling that some of them don't even know what they're talking about. In case anyone is questioning my experience with television media, while I haven't been involved with WTOP, I spent 4 years working with my local public access channel and can work every piece of equipment in a studio.

Because WTOP doesn't build a broadcast team from scratch every year either? Please. And WTOP already covers away games. Not live, but we have picture (a.k.a. video, not still photos). It's a neat little show called Laker Lowdown, you should check it out sometime (it's on YouTube). Also, things have been tossed around about broadcasting with a single camera, through a laptop, over the internet, but that is still in the very infant stages.

I think my main point with all of this is that anyone who has worked in television, or radio for that matter, will tell you that TV is a much more involved and more difficult production than radio. No offense to NYO, because I've worked there too, but you take two headsets, a handheld mic, the box, and either a phone line or the fiber line, and you're ready to go. Set up time: about ten minutes, on a slow day. Maloney and I once got to Plattsburgh late and were airing the game ten minutes after we got there. Television set up... you need cameras, audio, lighting, in-game crew set-up, announcers set-up, mobile cart, graphics, switcher, etc. And that's about half of what needs to happen. Set up time: Multiple hours on the short end.

So, you know, if you'd actually like to see Dormo's trick goal against Brockport, or the goal by Genny that slammed the door shut, go to Laker Lowdown this weekend on YouTube... and then tell me WTOP doesn't do away games.
