Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

I don't see why they want to consider it. You don't want it on the holiday itself so some years you may have to have it another weekend but I never saw a problem with it being over those weekends but thats just me.

I think one of the main reasons to consider moving it is that the students are gone for winter break. It's hard to get a decent crowd at that time anyway, let alone with the students being gone. This year was a tough schedule for the students. They went almost 2 months without seeing a home game. But then again, it really wouldn't be a holiday tournament if you move it to 3 weeks before the holiday.

A CONGRATS to Mather for making the All- Tourny team, he will remember it win or lose.........good job!!!!!!!!

Unless you made it the Thanksgiving Holiday...but then you probably still don't have students

He deserved it, those were a couple of great shots he scored on and it was a nice play to set up Boots for the third goal.

Anything to worry about??questions, comments.whats up???????? Do they have a better " aid package " then we do?? also looks like platts has a few top notchers coming in, and there were hints Jensen has a bro coming in???????? Are we falling behind this yr in the recruits dept??

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

we're losing Kevin Huinink, Dan Bremner, Chris Laganiere, Justin Fox, Owen Kelly, Joe Hall, and Stephen Mallaro

so thats 7 guys, 5 forwards and 2 D men.

In order of points thats
#2 Fox (10-22-32)
#7 Laganiere (10-10-20)
#8 Mallaro (4-15-19) he was our D man with the highest points.
#13 Kelly (7-1-8)
#14 Bremner (3-4-7)
#15 Huinink (0-6-6)
#22 Hall (0-1-1)

they will be missed, but I'm not too worried about our ability to recruit top talent

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

Of those 7 that are graduating, 3 make up the PPK, Kelly, Bremner, and Lags. I know it isn't talked about much but who will fill in those holes. Kelly and Bremner were the Laker best PPKillers. As much scoring that will be lost I think that this aspect of the Lakers game will be hurt even more. That only leaves Boots and Singleton as PPKer's.

Andrew Mather?? He had to lead the team in shorthanded breakaways this past season.

And the Lakers lost their top 2 PKers after 09-10 too and I'd say they did alright. ;)

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

Mather, Boots, Singleton, Chris Brown, Kyle Badham, Corey Domenico and Chris Muise all spent time killing penalties this past season and I think Titanic might have as well. Eli Kim-Swallow will probably be a penalty killer when he plays which might be all the time or on occasion. Bremner was a DI defenseman before converting to forward at Oswego and we know the running joke about transfers at Oswego.

As for scoring the Mather, Boots and Titanic line should be solid if it stays together and Moodie, Rodrigues and Whitelaw have the potential to dominate if the can get a little more consistent. Other than that you have guys like Leimbrock who is knocking on the door of being a great player if he can start converting on his chances. Brown, Muise and Ayotte have some serious potential as well if they can work into the lineup a little more often and with only a couple of guys listed on the recruits side of things you don't really know what any newcomers will bring to the table. Adrian has a couple of good guys there but they had Skelly and all those guys four years ago and Oswego, Plattsburgh etc. that are heavy on OJHL kids did just fine. It's been said a million times it's not about getting the best players it's about finding the right ones and for a couple of years Eddie has had a team full of great players that lacked what it took to get the job done when it counted so if we get "stuck" with some "lesser talent" that is a little hungrier then I am fine with that.

I think the biggest loss for Oswego is Joe Hall. He was always positive even in the face of sitting almost every night and he would do things others weren't willing to do, no questions asked. He also was a good enough player to force guys to work hard to make sure they stayed ahead of him on the depth charts. Don't forget he was a big time scorer at Wellington, put up solid Freshman numbers and then got steamrolled by the influx of new freshman and transfers. He is the kind of guy where you look up the word teammate and his picture is next to it.

Not a bad assessment of the Lakers. Just a note on Lags he did play over half of the season with a injured shoulder. As for Hunik not finding the back of the net it's not a big deal for he really never played on the PP but rather the PPK.
Bakdraft did Len Defasio get a good ribbing when he didn't score his senior year?Oswego '89

Think I scored only a few goals my whole career, but as you pointed out some guys play the PP while some kill'em, I loved to kill'em as you could, at my time, break your aluminum over the guys back in front of the net and not get called ;-))....as for lenny great guy who played a tuff D game, we really didnt pay much attention to who scored at least I didnt, anyway it was Snell or Fitzgerald who scored most, so I always just figured they got the goal, my D partner Tom mcfall did score a bunch from the point, but I was taking care of the dirty work in front of the net.......your welcome tom..lol....

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

Former Oswego State coach George Roll was relieved of his duties today as the head coach at Clarkson.

Roll led Oswego State to the 2003 National Championship game before bowing out to Norwich 2-1 in the finals. He took the Clarkson job soon thereafter and led the Knights to a few NCAA Tournament appearances. However, two years ago Tech pretty much hit rock bottom.

Be interesting to see if he comes back down to D-III if one of the lucrative jobs open up or if he gets on as a D-I assistant somewhere.

I dealt with Roll a lot when I worked at WNYO. He's a good coach and he will land on his feet somewhere. Best of luck to him.

After last season, I think it's safe to say the GMHL or whatever it's called will not have a representative team in the Campus Center for some time.

Morrisville has played Princeton the last two seasons as well. I don't know if they are scheduled to continue it again this year or not.

It'd be great if Oswego could play a Clarkson, RIT, or Cornell or something like that. But getting those programs to schedule D-III teams is probably near impossible. Neither team really has anything to gain out of it and the D-I's face the prospect of everything to lose if they lost to a lowly D-III team.

Scheduling a DIII-DI exhibition works with the Ivy teams as they get started later than the rest of DI. By the time Oswego or any other DIII team would want to (or even could) play an exhibition, most DI schools will already have 3 - 4 real games in the books.
