Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

Good show, gentlemen. Great season. It's not hard to see why you're here every year.

Great game Lakers! You have a Grade A+ team! Today's game could have gone either way. I hope that the history between AC and OSU can be expanded in the coming years!

Congrats to Adrian, and I like nysportsfan can't say that I was too surprised with the outcome of the game. The Bulldog powerplay is top notch and the Lakers have had problems all year staying out of the box. Its what it came down to tonight. The game as a whole mirrored last years really at the Campus Center. Really close, rough and tumble hockey all the way to the end. Just the other team got the bounces instead of the Lakers. The goaltending was good on both ends, so that was not the issue for either team. I know it will be redundant, but (again like last year) this game could have gone either way. To all of the Adrian fans thanks for your gracious comments about our team as you celebrate a well deserved victory. You guys are all classy and get a A+ in my book (just like the St. Norbert fans). It's good to have the opposing team console you after a loss lol. Best of luck to your team. Could this be the year of the Bulldog?

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

Killer loss for the lakers, and it sucks to lose 2x in a row in the semis......Adrian got game for sure as we knew, the PP killed us, but we also got 2 on the PP....so you may say the penalty killing hurt us.that said, a few defensive lapses was a killer at the end of the 1st and then the 2 pipes that we hit could have made a BIG differences, but as others said the dogs seem to have gotten most of the bounces, and sometimes that happens......after watching both games, man are the 4 teams very close to eachother, I think if you played both games again today, there could be the opposite results, but hey this is what it is........should be a GREAt game tonight, will watch and root for the winning team LOL.......is it time for the fire Gosek and the Laker off season thread to start???

I agree, I think this thread title is what made us lose

Okay now that the Lakers season is officially over and all of the congratulations have been sent to the Bulldogs, I think there will be a lot of time to analyze what the Lakers will need for next year to make a run to Lake Placid. Please no rehashing of what went wrong with this past season except in the context of how it will affect next season. If you were Gosek what would you be working to strenghten? My summary:

Offense: Need to bring in or develope goal scorers, forwards that are not afraid to attack the net and hit in the open ice.

Defense: Need to be more disciplined and keep the opposing players from getting open in front of the net AND GET THEIR STICKS OFF THE ICE.

Goaltending: If no one leaves, Gosek is set here. Rather hard to find fault with a 1st team AA but Beckwith did struggle near the end of the season but I think he will come in more determined and stronger next season. Hopefully, Jones and Hare will work hard in the off-season to push for the job.

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

I knew Oswego was in trouble in the first when Fox hit Fogal right in the chest on a 3 on 1. In all the games Oswego lost this year they squandered opportunities like that early in the game and it came back to haunt them. Adrian took a little while to get their legs under them but Oswego as is so often the case couldn't take advantage.

The two saddest images from the game for me was watching Boots stick handle around three guys in the corner looking for someone to pass it to while the rest of the team hung out near the top of the circles, then he forced a shot to the net went to the bench and sat down by himself behind everyone else with his head down. I know it won't be popular here but I think he felt like I did that pretty much everyone else wasn't willing to put it all on the line in the last five or so minutes like you have to do to win games like this.

The second one was watching Mallaro flounder around in the crease trying to stop the empty netter, if there has ever been a kid that you wanted to see have success it is him and for the last image of his career to be that is hard to take.

For next season they have the talent at forward to get the job done they just have to get back to what made them successful, crashing the net and fore checking to force teams into turnovers. I think some of the current guys can step up and score goals and the main thing they will need are role playing and energy type guys.

On defense they have to be more disciplined and make better choices with the puck. They also need to do a better job at getting pucks through from the point and the forwards need to get some traffic in front of the goalies.

Goaltending should be fine if Paul can get that focus back that he lost after going down hurt. He really struggled through the five hole in the second half of the year and he gave up two through the legs yesterday. If all three stay their is really no room for a fourth to groom to take over when Beckwith graduates and I don't see either Hare or Jones as a starter unless they make a major transformation.

Re: Oswego 2011 Playoff and Offseason Thread: Hips and Nips or We Don't Win!

a friend of mine who works for the Oswegonian told me that he talked to Gosek before they left to go out west and he's already done recruiting for next year. He said Ed didn't give him any names, but I'll ask him if he can maybe do an article on it or something and find out who is coming in.

The recruits were flowing through the Campus Center all season - was introduced to 6 or 7 "kids" and their folks when I was in town this season...(hopefully I didn't scare any good ones away :eek::eek:)

And good luck with Eddie spilling any names in public...:D

The Lakers will continue to attract top talent - top academics, great facility, solid program, excellent coaching staff - Eddie's job is to select the right talent to add to his recipe for success...;)

A cross-bar here, a post there and things might have turned out differently - but no shame in the effort or the results of this season...Lakers have much to be proud of and a solid foundation to build upon for 2011-12:D:D:D:D:D

There's a reason that some programs (including one I know very well :) ) try to keep a lid on recruiting info whenever practical. Even with that some recruits still manage to end up other places. With recruits being free agents until the time classes actually start secrecy is not necessarily a bad idea, even though we fans may feel frustrated by lack of info during a time in which we'd love to know something hockey related.

couldnt agree more, I thought it was basic hockey, standing next to a plyer does NOT mean he is covered, GET HIS STICK,,,,,,the D will need work, offense could use a few more power forwards, and Beck was Ok lastnight but hes played better, next yr he WILL get pushed for his job, sounds crazy as he was a AA, but this is how ya win it all... I think they did a great job behind the bench......well lets see what Gosek has coming in??? cant wait for Jan/Feb for the pots/platss weekend at the CC.........**** those crossbars and posts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bigger question is next year the year they move it out of the Christmas-New Year's week...? There has been a lot of chatter to that effect.

Heard Hamline might be coming from out west. What week might it move to?

Listening to WNYO calling the championship game - students making the pros on the ncaa webcast sound like first-time amateurs...
Thanks for a great season - First Class coverage home and away gents. And on the TV side, WTOP produces the best college hockey broadcast on the web...
We are really spoiled by the quality and dedication of our student media outlets in Oz....

I don't see why they want to consider it. You don't want it on the holiday itself so some years you may have to have it another weekend but I never saw a problem with it being over those weekends but thats just me.
