Open Wheel Racing 2021, anyone there to watch?

Makes sense. I just figured Vegas was to try to make the most lavish American race possible to gain US interest so it would be centered around American viewership.

Given Vegas it should start at the stroke of midnight and feature full frontal and tigers.

And we know what they mean by box, box, box.

Andretti won’t be allowed into F1 unless he partners with a new engine manufacturer/brings one into the series. Haughty pricks that F1 team owners are they’re turning their noses at Michael.

What are your favorite F1 blogs, podcasts, or sites, both funny and serious?

Dr. Mrs. & I are hooked on Choosing Sides: F1. It is very good for us -- basically, introduction but for intelligent people.

I love Josh Revell's YouTube channel. While he presents everything with a good bit of snark, I think his takes on stuff are well thought out and presented in logical ways. He does a lot of the usual week in/week out type of sports commentary, but he also has several videos that go into some rather unique corners of the F1 world (His "W-T-F Happened to..." videos for example.). Guy is also based in New Zealand, so it's a fresh angle as well.

Highly recommend =)

Yea, and? When was the last time an Andretti car won something significant? I’d bet a vast majority of workers in F1 were not even born when Mario won. And mike was a disaster in F1, too.
It sucks, but I don’t trust Mike much, either.

They won Indy in 2017.

C’mon. Michael Andretti has NEVER been an untrustworthy person. That’s trash.

did he mess up in 1993? Yes. But listen to what Mika Hakkinen said and says about Andretti. It sure wasn’t a lack of talent.

I don’t trust him to field a competitive team. Talent isn’t the issue. He’s had plenty of talent the last few seasons, and nothing significant. That doesn’t translate well for a big change in vehicle design and budget.

Yeah, no.

MGM Resort International is planning to buy $20-25 million worth of F1 Las Vegas tickets from F1 so that it can create hotel+event packages for next year’s race, per CEO Bill Hornbuckle.

He said rooms will cost three times their usual rate and packages will retail for up to $100,000.

That actually sounds about right.

Tickets in the modern world don't go to consumers/fans first. They go to the business world and then fans get the leftover scraps to fight over.

4 days to quali.

Does this mean that Red Bull will race as "Porsche" and Alfa Romeo will race as "Audi"?

I'd be all for the first and against the second.

This is a race you should try to attend.

Interesting thing about Honda becoming Porsche, since the opposite happened at McLaren in the 80’s, winning championships as TAG Porsche, and then dominating with Honda.

It’s kinda too bad to me that the Alfa deal is 100% advertising, so they can be dumped almost immediately. Which they are apparently OK with.

Either way, has there been official announcements from either company following the official 2026 rule release?

OK so Alfa and Aston Martin are just naming rights, not owners, is that correct? Where as e.g. Ferrari and Mercedes are the actual team owners?

Why would a car manufacturer just do sponsorship, isn't that a little.... damning? I can see it for a non-car sponsor, but what does it say if you sponsor a team but run somebody else's car?

Alfa, absolutely.

Aston is kind of a gray area- Stroll actually owns Aston Martin, the car company. And, as of a few years ago, Mercedes is their engine suppiier for the road cars.

Besides, Mercedes isn’t actually Mercedes- just the engine. The home factory is in England.

Merc is probably close enough, but Ferrari- that’s a real factory team, where the team home is where the main facility is in Maranello. Renault- have to look into it more.
