Open Wheel Racing 2021, anyone there to watch?

It's more that Fox pushed them to cable while having another race OTA under their umbrella. But you're right, NASCAR has been disappearing from OTA. The Xfinity Series is actually more accessible now with the CW having the races.
I’m shocked that the France family hasn’t come up with an alternative name for racing ala “sports entertainment” and the WWE considering how much they’ve bastardized their series.

A little, being a Yooper will have that.

Loved the Iceman for how calm he was, his sarcastic radio outbursts, and his "Fuck this shit, I'm out," attitude like his Monoco walk to his yacht. 😂 He was unique in a series that seems to beat that out of their drivers.
He was a bit of a throwback in that regard, it is true.

Red Bull isn't the only one without drama. ESPN reporting that Alpine is ready to replace Doohan with Colapinto before the European leg starts.
I'm convinced (with pure speculation) that after they signed Colapinto and then got that huge South American sponsor deal, that sponsor contract specifically was worded that Colapinto has to be in the car by such and such race. This is why everybody has been reporting for months that Doohan is out when the European leg starts. I am so convinced by my theory (LOL), that even if Doohan had won ever single race this year up to that crossover point, he was still out, because of that contract. Doohan never had a chance.

It looks more and more likely Red Bull is going to make the switch. Sources are saying the decision has already been made, but the announcement won't come till later this week.

Honda already pays $10 million euros for Tsunoda to drive for Racing Bulls. Apparently, they are going to offer an additional $10 million euros for Tsunoda to get promoted for the rest of the season. Even more interesting, apparently Honda made this offer during the offseason, but Horner turned it down.

More interesting that this is the last season of Honda power. So this is literally just for this season.

No. Honda has repeatedly said they will always support their Honda academy drivers, even if they go elsewhere (though I wonder if that means going to Toyota also). Honda has said before they would support Tsunoda in F1 in a non-Honda car. Apparently, this is going to be a two-year deal.

So they are going to support a Honda driver at a non Honda team? Kinda nuts if you ask me. It was a perfect time to either kick out Stroll or replace retiring Alonso with Tsunoda.

I just said, Honda has said themselves they are okay with that.

And technically, Tsunoda is no longer a Honda driver. Honda "dropped" him last year as one of their official drivers. But they did say then they will continue to support him financially to a point.

Honda is like most Japanese companies. Very loyal. And they like to brag about their driver development program, so what better way to do that than to make sure Tsunoda stays in F1, even if it's not with Honda.

Look at what Toyota is doing with their driver development program. They put one of their top prospects in a Haas FP1 (or was it the rookie test) session, when they run a Ferrari engine.

Odd weekend in Japan.

Doohan crashes hard because he didn't shut the DRS going into a fast corner. Not because he forgot, because he did it in the simulator, and nobody told him to stop.

And 4 red flags due to grass fires in FP2, and FP3 is less than 10 min old and we get our first red flag due to a grass fire. They claim that the grass has been cut, and tomorrow it will be watered. But will that last the entire race? Seems that they need a new skid plate material.

Race today was lining up to be great with the different strategies and tires have more deg than expected, and then they went full safety car for what did not look like a lot of debris on the track and it turned it into a sprint race.

Evidently Max has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave if they're below 3rd in the WCC at the summer break.

They all have performance escape clauses. We just never know the exact measurements. If this measurement is true, it will make it exciting to follow.

But where would he go? Rumor has it Russell is about to sign an extension with Mercedes for two years and an additional option year at about $30 million per year. And they are not getting rid of Antonelli.

McLaren is definitely not getting rid of anyone to make room. Nor is Ferrari (unless Hamilton decides he's had enough, but I doubt that before he tries the 2026 ruleset).

Aston Martin is the only choice. Granted, it could be a good choice for 2026, but it's still a big gamble.

No other team will be enticing for Max.

McLaren and Piastri keep rolling.
The first corner was cool how Piastri did a Max move, and claimed the apex and got all of what that earns. It will be interesting to see the post race complaining by Horner that they were undone by their own game. Oscar had that race totally under control- so very impressive by him.

And a nice recovery by Norris, too. Too bad he could not really close on LeClerc to try to make that pass. Alas, the Ferrari was pretty strong on that hard tire.

According to The-Race, the performance clause is as follows: "High-level sources have suggested that the clause comes into play if Verstappen is outside of the top two in the drivers' championship by a certain point of the season, which is believed to be the summer break."

Which is a lot easier to attain than the team being below a third in the WCC. So easy, Max can easily manipulate that to achieve the clause. Similar to the way it was rumored Vettel manipulated his performance in his last year at Red Bull so he could leave for Ferrari.
