Open Wheel Racing 2021, anyone there to watch?

Knowing how to vs. actually doing it are not really the same thing. Especially when you look at the change to Speedvision they put into place.

We will see.

Still think the more important thing for Indycar is a more consistent schedule. I've seen a handful of laps of a race this year (not going to count the 500, since that was reasonably easy) as they keep moving around when the race actually is run over a weekend. And given NASCAR's schedule, I don't see this getting better at all.

And a lot of it obviously comes down to finances.

I don’t think there is much overlap between Fox’s NASCAR weekends and IndyCar weekends so schedule shouldn’t be an issue(Fox has five fewer nascar weekends next year.) I’m just grateful it won’t be on streaming.

Fox is fine for 2025 but it’s going to be a real mess in 2026 having to navigate around the World Cup. You’re looking at over a month in the middle of summer with no races.

Does Newsweek covering this rumor make it more true? https://www.newsweek.com/sports/form...l-exit-1912868

Pretty much what most people expected for Newey.

SI says Ferrari.

"Eddie Jordan has negotiated a contract for Adrian Newey to join Scuderia Ferrari to effectively head up its Formula One design department, although exact job titles have not been confirmed.

"The deal, signed just before the Miami Grand Prix, is $105 million for three years, 2025 to 2027.

"Jordan is believed to have received $5m commission for doing the deal which will be paid by Newey. The deal is a 50 per cent uplift on Newey’s salary at Red Bull.

"Newey’s new contract was orchestrated by Irish solicitor Dermot O’Rourke and signed in London on Monday April 29."

Four weeks ago, 19-year-old Nolan Siegel was a rookie at the Indy 500. Now, he is a class winner (LMP2) at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Not too shabby for a teenager...

So much for “mature max”. Same driver, dad, and team leadership as ever. Who would have thought.

I figured once the pressure was on, he would revert to his old ways. To me, Red Bull's (specifically Horner's) reaction was more dispicable.

I didn't get to watch the race till last night. My wife, who read about it, kept waiting silently for my reaction because she knew what was coming. :-)

Meanwhile, at the SCCA Regional at Watkins Glen yesterday, the Formula Vee race was decided by 0.009 seconds!

Horners reactions sure makes the accusations against him a lot more believable.

F1 is reporting that Haas filled a 2025 seat with future Hamilton replacement Ollie Bearman.

No surprise.

Now, the real question marks need to be answered. When will Sainz make up his mind (and reports say Williams told him they are not waiting for his decision and are talking to other drivers)? And where to? Once that domino falls, who ends up in the remaining second seats for Williams, Audi, Alpine, and Haas?

Some interesting stuff going on with EV racing. My questions would be how do you refuel/charge them during a race and how safe are they if you wreck one at 200 mph?

Have you been paying attention to Formula E which has been around for like 10 years? EV racing is not new. FE cars have been crashing at high speeds for that long. Heck, the very first race they ran saw a high speed flying wreck which went viral.

I worked the last NYC E-Prix event in Brooklyn a couple of years ago. The first race had a sudden downpour on half the track (luckily, not the half I was at...) causing a massive high speed pileup. Search for it on YouTube. It hurts just watching it. (I love one of the radio calls from the corner worker captain, "Send everything!")

As for recharging, FE was supposed to debut a quick charge technology last year. Still haven't worked out the kinks... But, they will get there eventually. It was supposed to be a five-minute charge to finish the race, and I assume a longer race than they run now.

What happened to Osama bin Russell? One minute he was in 4th, the next pfft retired without explanation.

Water system failure. Ironic to have a water problem in a wet race.

I presume that means they had a leak that was seen as a loss of pressure.
