Open Wheel Racing 2021, anyone there to watch?

There is a great shot in the Indy Star of the tire flying over the crowd. There is definitely suspension pieces still attached to it.

What was up with that sh**. When did that become the "fast" way around the track. Mathematically, it's quicker to make as few turns as possible: make the rectangle more oval. Enter turn one high. Dive low to the apex. Then exit high. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

NASCAR always has had a few try similar at straight stretches on superspeedways, but most everyone behind the lead pack that attempts it just stays on the outside and lines up single file making the leader and couple trailers look stupid as they get back in line for the next corner.

The tether system can't fail when the part it's attached to to prevent the tire from flying off is *also* accompanying the tire. That sounds more like a car structural failure, not a tether failure.

The tether is supposed to hold the upright to the chassis if the suspension fails, and Russel posted that he could see suspension still attached to the wheel- so the tether failed someplace. Whether it was the cable, the attachment to the upright, or the attachment to the chassis is a good question that seriously needs solved.

It's to try to break the slipstream of the car behind.
 
It appears the possibility of a South African GP is going to be thwarted again, but this time not because of money, but because of South Africa's relationship with Russia, and their unwillingness to condemn Putin.

This means that Spa will most likely remain on the calendar ... for now. There is still talk about alternating Spa with another race, most likely Zandvoort, in the future.

China is expected to be back in 2024, as they still have two years remaining on their contract. The circuit will first have to go through another inspection, as it hasn't been used for so long.

Speaking of China, the Macau GP is returning to being an international event this November. The international F3 race will return along with the GT World Cup. The past two years, the Macau GP was run, but "relegated" to being a local, regional event only (essentially just China, Hong Kong, and Macau drivers and teams) as it was nearly impossible for international competitors and teams to be able to meet the travel and quarantine rules. This is one event which has always been on my bucket list to attend.

Slightly off topic but the NASCAR Garage 56 entry at Le Mans has been described as "loud AF".

It's a play on "American" racing vs "European" racing.

Nascar has historically use a massive engine compared to it's European counterparts. 427 Cubic Inches (7.0 Liter) was the maximum size cap in Nascar. Currently, they use a 358 Cubic Inch (5.9 Liter) V-8. These engines are heavier and run much lower RPM's compared to their European counterparts. They also lack technology.

F1/Eropean racing used much smaller engines (about a 3.5 Liter cap)... Turbos made up for the lack of displacement along with electronics. Euro engines run at much faster RPMs.

Just a case of using to very different methods to create an 800-1000 HP engine.

It's an apples to oranges comparison in reality.

A NASCAR cup car weighs about 3,600lb. An F1 Car about 1,750. The classic LeMans "Prototype" car was about 2,000-2,200 lb

Once a Cup car gets rolling, it's very much resistant to any direction change compared to a European Sports car. European cars are much more nimble and hold a lot more technical advancement.

Button can back this up – just the sheer volume of the Camaro exhausts him over long stints at the wheel. And he’s at peak physical fitness. “I had to get new earplugs, it’s so loud.”

“The best thing for me is when they start it up, though,” he adds. “It will blow everyone’s mind, the sound of it – it is insane.”

“You think the Cadillac is impressive? This thing – it’ll rock your world!”

And it’ll be hard for the other competitors not to take notice. “All the drivers are going to hate us because they’re not going to be able to sleep!” Button laughs.
