Re: Open Wheel Racing 2011, hurry, before we downsize your engines....
Great F1 race. Good win by Button and Mclaren. Vettel...bye bye. the thing this shows me as well is the comparisons by some "enthusiastic" Vettel adherents to Senna is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too premature and really overreaching. I know F1 WANTS another Senna, but they don't come around often. If that were Senna on that final restart he'd have annihilated the field, end of story. he definitely would not have made that rookie type mistake in the wet.
too bad Schumey couldn't hold on to 2nd or 3rd. it would have been nice to see him on the podium
Our recording was up to the rain break. Seeing jensen crash Hamilton out, I was pretty suprised to see him keep going, and then to see him win the race- holy cow. I really wish that didn't happen, as my two favorites are Lewis and Jensen right now. So I'm quite happy for Jensen for winning.
On the Vettel/senna thing- I still don't get why people put Senna on such a high horse. Sure, you could see him hustle the car around the track, but I personally perferred Prost's driving, which was just as fast, it just didn't look it. And Alain didn't crash anyone out to win. Nor did he fall asleep while so far ahead that you could glide (Monaco). So in that respect, Vettel is very similar to Senna- blinding fast, makes some stupid mistakes, and is willing to use the car to check other drivers..... Then again, i was never that attracted to Gilles, either.
For the Indy car race- Race one's "single file" was waived off, and was restarted as pairs, which cost Alex, since he could not hold a lead he didn't have. didn't see the second race, but it sure seems as if the drivers didn't like the random draw- would much rather see an inverted field than random. I tend to agree with that. Maybe invert the top 10, and then invert the bottom 10 (so that you don't have some REALLY slow drivers leading the entire field). Clean second half? Very impressive.
For our closed wheel fans- LeMans was amazing. To finish that close after 24 hours is incredible. For Audi to do that after two of the worst crashes I've seen- oh, my gosh. I missed Alan's crash by a few min, and just got back home Saturday evenging aftger Rockenfeler's massive crash. McNish does seem to accept the blame, since he dive bombed two cars, late. Not sure about Micheal's- kind of looks like the slow car wasn't paying attention....
P2 looks like there's some potential there- Honda v Nissan, but there are a lot of good turbo V6's out there that could really add to this class. Production based is quite cool. Sweep by Corvette in the GTE Pro and Am classes- pretty cool, and the light budget, former production Ford GT team of Robertson Racing get's 3rd in Am.
LeMans is awesome.
BTW- program note- Lewis Hamilton and Tony Stewart will be swapping rides tomorrow (tuesday, june 14) on Speed at Watkins Glen. Hopefully, including the boot.
