Re: Olympics Part V: The Search for Gold

Wow, I got goosebumps seeing David Backes getting his medal. Knowing him growing up, I can't think of a guy who deserves it more.

Re: Olympics Part V: The Search for Gold

I read somewhere the gold medals weigh 21ozs. Wonder what one would retail for.

Re: Olympics Part V: The Search for Gold

This hurts. But our guys did us proud. Beat the Canadians and took 'em into OT. Would have loved to win gold. But silver's a major accomplishment.

Exactly, if you were a bettin' man and absolutely had to win, were you going to take Canada or the US for the Gold.?

At least we have nuclear weapons.

And as a Red Wings fan who had to deal with that son of a ***** lifting the Stanley Cup at Joe Louis Arena, and this is just frigging ridiculous.

Ryan -- hate to break it to you - but you guys had respect before you got to Vancouver.

Agreed. Maybe not by the canadians or the russians but they had it from the people that matter the most.

I like this US team in 4 years. I really, really do. They're all so young and can only get better with the talent coming up as well.

Re: Olympics Part V: The Search for Gold

This might be a case where the intrinsic value actually outweighs the true value methinks.

Oh sure. The IOC has established minimum standards for what qualifies for a gold, silver or bronze medal. In recent winter Olympics, the organizers have gone way past those minimums. The Salt Lake medals were the heaviest of all time, like 24 ozs. And in the case of a gold medal, a lot of those 24 ozs would be pure gold. As a piece of jewelry, worth thousands. As a symbol of athletic excellence, priceless.
