One down and one to go.

The Bucks got the Friday win. Now they can play there hearts out for another win on Saturday. :)

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

Very pleased with the effort in the 2 games this weekend. would have liked 6points but 4 points are great. Peter Boyd was a man on a mission all weekend long. Once again John Albert was great at both ends of the ice. Didnt think either goalie played very well but both game up with big saves when the game was on the line.

Well with 4th place in sight they go to Omaha for another big series on the road. If they come with the effort from the last 4 games the rest of the season could be very interesting.

A few comments and questions:

Did anyone else notice Markell after the game last night when the team gave a half hearted effort to thank the student section. I know they lost in a shootout, but if you want the support of fans and students, you need to earn it through your play and other ways!!

Just looking over the roster and got to thinking about a few names on the list. Where has Ian Boots been? Does anyone have any idea? Was he finally benched due to stupid penalties? Belanger played some at the beginning of the year, but I do not recall seeing him play for a long time. As far as freshman, I thought Alex Carlson was supposed to be the next great thing, but I have not seen him for a long time.

Also, no word on a contract extension for Markell. Its getting late, and I think that tells us something.

Any comments?

I did notice markell last night. I noticed him right before the handshake was over, i know he never stays out there so something was up. He gave it to them pretty good. Boots hasnt played i believe since the michigan series. Belanger played mostly when sims got hurt hes not better than any of the dmen that played this weekend or better than Krogh. I dont think Carlson has adjusted to the college game and he hasnt played in a long time either.

As for Markell no extension tells me his time just might be up in columubs. I noticed the 4th line didnt see more than 3 shifts a game this weekend.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

I like Boots, he plays hard, same goes for Belanger. But not everyone can dress, if OSU can come home with 3 points from MSU and take 4 points at home from Ferris you have to be happy. They are getting points when they need points. Nothing wrong with if you win, you skate the next night.

As for Markell, I won't read too much into that. Bob Todd didn't get a new contract until about two months after the baseball season was over. At OSU, only the AD, football coach and basketball coach get new contracts when they still have two years left on their current deals.

Severyn's goal was nice, but the assist by Albert alone, was worthy of an ESPN top 10.

I agree about Boots he plays very hard just too manydumb penaties at the wrong time it seems. Markell has a history of not changing the next night after a Win. Remember last year when they won those 11 straigth that line up played every game untill the loss at home against Western.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

Saw the game on Sat via the web feed. It looked like OSU had the better of the play, hard to catch everything on the internet. A couple of bad bounces both ways and OSU found themselves tied with FS and in a shootout anything can happen. Would have loved to see the game Fri it sounds like a real offensive onslaught staved off by OSU with Ferris throwing 39 shots on Heeter in the final 2 periods. Anyone know why they didn't come back with Heeter after that effort on Friday?

I have also noticed the Coach is over playing forward Freshman McNeil with no points to this day.

Coach has sat both forward freshman Kirkland and Carlson and they both have less playing time and they both have goals?

I did noticed that Carlson was playing alot before Chrismas break when some of the Veteran players were hurt.

On the other side of that coin are (former wrestling coach) Russ Hellickson and the former women's volleyball coach. Both coached the last year of their contracts and were then dismissed less than a month after their seasons ended.

Personal opinion is that Markell is not in the Bob Todd category, he's in the Russ Hellickson category.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

You think the coach would want to rotate his younger players as much as he can so next year he would have some more experienced players.

It's kinda like the coach is shooting himself in the foot in the long run. :D

The only problem with that is on this team only 1 senior leaves. You dont know how many if any of the juniors who were drafted will leave. Who are you going to take out of the line up to play? Kirkland and Carlson rotated last weekend with Carlson playing the game they lost and Kirkland the game they won, so Cody plays untill the lose. The one guy who didnt play this weekend who i think is going to be a good player down the road is Devon Krogh. He is pretty solid on the backend and is gaining confidence everytime he is out there. Look for him to play next friday vs Omaha instead of Folkes.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

I was also wondering why he sat out Devin Krogh? This kid has done a great job as a Freshman D-Man. :)

I wish Collage game roster would do what the pros do and say the reason the player was scratched. Injury, sick, healthy scratch, Ect. :)

Freshman Carlson hasen't played a game since the Christmas break. And freshman Kirkland has played only one or two games since break.

I would think a " NORMAL COACH " would want to rotate all three of his freshman forwards. ( Kirkland, Carlson and McNeil. ) Alot of D-1 coaches would rotate them one the 4th line one at a time. This is how you get them ready for next year.

Kirkland has played the last 3 games. Mcneil played in every game untill last weekend. Since the 4th line only saw about 4 shifts all weekend and killed most of the 1st half of every penalty i dont see why they wouldnt rotate but when you win there is no need to change chemistry. Now i bet since they tied on Saturday we see Mcneil back out there for Kirkland on Friday in
Omaha.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

I also want to know about Devin Krough. I thought he was running the point well on the PP and playing well overall. I am guessing he has to be hurt.

Very pleased with last weekend.

Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

Go to this link and check out the stats on the three freshman forwards , Kirkland , Carlson and Mcneil.

It's just unheard of for a coach at this level to over play a player with the worse stats and sit a player with the best stats.

I understand your frustration and agree with you. All i was saying is thats the way Markell has done things for years.

What stats are you talking about??? when figuring out who should be playing on a 4th line, I probably would like to know.. who is giving up scoring chances...who is good in the d zone... who can match up speed and size wise... not some meaningless numbers.
