Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )

I am NOT a Markell supporter.... He hasn't taken the team to any sort of level....

Years they are supposed to be good they are bad and then he overachieves with some teams and is given credit. Even seasons when they do well (except the Frozen Four year 10+ yrs ago) they have been bounced in the First Rd of the NCAA's.....

The teams are inconsistent and struggle with things teams shouldnt.... PP and PK this year....

I hate to compare to football but I am.... People were calling for Tressel's head because he doesn't win the way they want him to.... Heck Markell isn't even winning!

Would a change really HURT the program at all? Gene Smith has done well with hiring coaches... Let's give him a shot...

Who knows? Bring in a new coach... Win some games and convince the school to build a REAL college hockey venue!

Be careful what you wish for. Michigan Football fans wanted to move into the 21st century and look what we are experiencing now. Granted, I'm not calling for Coach Rod's head yet but if he doesn't get this train wreck turned around soon...

True,
At the same time though Lloyd Carr was doing a lot more for UM football than Markell is for OSU Hockey....

we're like Clemson football or something.... all expectations and never any progress

I see your point but I still say that you shouldn't demand change so hastily. If you're not happy look at Western Michigan. Culhane has been there 10 years and they still haven't made the Joe yet.

Your first post really identified as someone not in Columbus, I am guessing somewhere in Michigan since your post started around the Ferris State series.
Just to let you know there is still one game left in the season, football still rules and is the focus of central Ohio. Coach contract not the first thought in the Athletic department(my guess).
A few years back Markell was skating 8-9-10 freshmen every night, not a good season. Since then more more good recruits have come in, a good bunch coming in next season. The coaches worked hard to get these guys to come here. They came here to play for these coaches.

You have questioned whether players are staying or leaving. Change coaches, you really open that door. Status quo, things are looking up.

Not from Michigan.... Actually farther from Michigan than Columbus....

I just see this program consistently mediocre.... We have plenty of talent now... But for some reason or another the coaches arent getting production out of them.... They win a game every couple weeks they shouldnt but then lose 2-3 they should win.....

I'm just kind of tired of it and am ready for a consistent winner... excuse me for having high expectations that I don't believe are unrealistic

Im willing to go out on a limb and say tomorrow night in oxford there will be a lot more than 24 min in penalties. Tough game for OSU, but Miami is really rolling right now.

No friendly texting between the two teams. Miami showed to be the class of the ccha and college hockey. Still Miami lost to Bemidji a couple of weeks ago and OSU beat the Beavers the next night. Another night, another opportunity. Game on the tele.

Yea they did lose to Bemidji and bemidji played well in that game. OSU has had some big wins but they are very very inconsistant. Miami handled them both nights, and like I predicted things got really interesting after the second period. But like Miami has shown all year they don't quit. OSU capitalized on some chances in the second and Carlson played extremely well last night. See you at the end of the season!

I was also very impressed with the Redhawks -- both nights.

And yet, Saturday could easily have gone our way. Bishop narrowly missed a second backdoor goal; the Bucks could have been up 3-0 after two. Even though the Redhawks were flying in the 3rd, I'm thinking we would have successfully defended a three goal cushion.

While moral victories obviously don't cut it, I was pleased and relieved we didn't have a repeat of Friday night. The two good periods give the team something to build on. The third period puts them on notice that there's a gap to be closed.

While I'm glad he has a good gig, it was strange to hear Neil broadcasting for the other guys...

Two straight Saturdays they don't get rewarded for a good effort. Once again they showed they can skate with anyone, Take some time off, regroup, start the next strong with a sweep against BG.

I like you, your a good poster but going to have to wonder what reward you are refering to. Yes OSU had a 2 goal lead going into the third period. Yes they played well, yes they got great goaltending but they were out played most of that game. You look at the stats after 1 who shots were in favor of Miami and scoring chances were 5-0 in favor of Miami. After two, OSU had a 2-0 lead but were getting outshot and out chanced 9-3 by Miami. And the third Miami just did what they do best and finish games.

Not knocking OSU at all here, I thought they showed a lot last night after a rough friday and on the road but Miami was the better team both nights in all facets. With that said, I expect a big second half from the bucks. They have too much talent to be below .500 but someone besides Dalpe will need to step up more consistantly. A thing you must be excited about is the fact that you have two solid goaltenders in Heeter and Carlson.

Side note, anyonje else besides me hoping for more of a donny brook after the second period?? lol both teams had a lot of aggression they needed to get out :D .

Gotta' agree with rhm10. Yes, we were up 2-0 after 2 periods, but outside of the actual scoring plays, we really didn't do much. Seemed to me that most of the game was played in our end. Dusty played a good game, but not good enough to win AGAIN.

Finally, yes, I think we can call this the "Markell Farewell Tour". Feel sorry for JB as he is just starting out in coaching and they way they are playing this year is not going to get him any points with another school.

It was discussed by the announcers near the beginning of the game that we are 57 out of 58 teams on both the power play and the penalty kill. Not going to win too many games that way!

I wouldn't be so hard on Carlson, You may not of won but he was the reason you were up 2-0 going to the third. Miami just wore down OSU in the third. And Carlson played remarkably well against UND and tired late. Those are the only two games I have seen him play and have been impressed in both. I wouldn't put either of those losses against two of the best teams in the country on him.
