Re: Ohio State U. ( 2009-2010 )
A couple of thoughts on attendance.
When the Schott opened, and for the next several years, attendance was great with 5 to 6 K per game. There were a lot of good feelings about the team and growth of the program.
All one has to do is look at the last several years and the losing records coming after pre-season hype. This team has not met expectations for some time, and that statement has nothing to do with whether those expectations were too high. They just weren't met.
Also, the last two years the home record has been abysmal. Last night was the first win at the Schott this season.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the attendance that two, strong winning seasons won't cure, season's where they meet or exceed expectations. They had a chance to do that last year, but Boston U destroyed it in the first period.
I live near Cincy and Oxford and one only needs to look at the U. of Cincy football program. It's been years since they had two sell outs in a row, or even a single sell out in some seasons. This year they are the hottest ticket in the area. It's all about winning.
When OSU puts a winning product on the ice consistently the attendance will take care of itself. Right now they aren't doing that.
