Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/3 - 2/4

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/3 - 2/4

At the end of game 2 in Columbus, there was bad blood between the teams. Do you think that there will be any carryover, or has a couple months of cool down put all that behind us?

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/3 - 2/4

OSU's Sara Schmitt committed a blatant cheap shot at the end of the game that could've gotten another player injured. That's not cool. But I doubt there's any bad blood. There's too much riding on this series to play stupid hockey.

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/3 - 2/4

Ohio State, please. Unless you're a closet Michigan fan.;)

My bad! Noted and will correct for future posts. I guess is someone called us Minnesota, I'd be equally irked.

Question: How are the Bulldog faithful currently evaluating their team? Last fall, when UMD came to Columbus, the Bulldog fanbase was pretty down on their squad. Now things seem to be on a much more even keel. Was it just a matter of a slow start? A realization that our league is truly strong and deep this year? Something else? Obviously UMD is accustomed to being a little higher in the standings. But I'm certainly expecting that we'll see a very formidable Bulldog team this weekend, like always. Comments?

I have always believed that the 'Dogs are not playing to their fullest potential this season. Does that mean that I think we are as good as Wisconsin or even MN? Not sure. WI is great and I would even go on record to say that MN is awesome this year. I was hoping that it was a slow start and Miller would do her usual thing where they come out for the second half on fire. Well, it's been a slow burn. When I see the win against MN that we had at home, and even the two great games at Wisconsin (though losses) I know that this is a team that has what it takes. So what is the difference? Maybe it's leadership from the team? Hard to tell. We have some great freshman talent that I feel aren't emerging from the freshman fog as much as I would like to see. I often wonder if that transition from being the best on your HS team to D1 where they are not the best and they are playing all of the best is kicking them in the ***. I'm convinced that all of this adds up to mental sharpness which I don't see consistently.

Yes, we're accustomed to cheering on a team that has been on top. But I think you ask any five? of us fans here on this board and we will whole-hardheartedly agree that the league (and women's hockey in general) is getting tougher. And it's not a bad thing. Would I love to see another National Championship trophy next to the five in case? Oh yeah! Do I recognize that victory will be harder and harder to earn every year? Duh. It's hard to be a fan with the notion that they could fall out of the top 10, but it's not the end of the world. And worst case scenario, maybe it's just what the younger portion of this team needs to get motivated for future season.

The team this weekend that plays will have to be disciplined and listen to the coaching staff. They will have to believe in one-another and work hard for every moment of the game. It's not about weather or not they want it. It's about how much they are willing to work for it.

I hope, too, that for both teams it's clean. Physical is great but I hope both teams just play their best hockey. It's honestly more gratifying, even if it results in a loss for your favorite team, to have a clean hard-earned win.

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/3 - 2/4

I remember Spooner being good last year. I don't remember her being THAT good.

Ohio almost walked away with this game tonight in the second and third.

But I was completely baffled at pulling the goalie 8+ minutes left. It distracted me, maybe that was the intent!

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/3 - 2/4

Hope to see the Buckeyes come back with strong sixty minutes in the rematch. 1 for 6 on the PP sounds like they had the opportunity in a pretty close game by appearances. I've read some questioning of the OSU PP strategy this season. Maybe some merit to those observations?

PP was dreadful tonight. No urgency to get in zone. When in zone, no player ever in front of goalie to screen net minder. With exception of Spooner, OSU forwards pretty timid when it comes to crashing the net.

I only saw the box score. It sounds like we dug ourselves a hole that we couldn't get out of. I saw that it was 4-0 at the end of the first period. We're not going to beat a great team like UMD on the road when we do that. Hopefully we get a better start tomorrow.

After Wilson's goal, beating both defensemen to the net

if this works, if not, then photos from the game

Had a fortune cookie after lunch today, my fortune: "Tonight, all your dreams will come true." Amen brother...way to bounce back Buckeyes! A split isn't perfection but this one, after losing the opener I'd definitely call a good result for OSU.

Oh wait. The Beavers lost...**** fortune cookie! Oh well...I'll take the Saturday night split. ;)

Ok to split now eh.... ya it's ok...lol ....way to go Spoon and the troops :) ...lol You'll never understand the game DA, never.

He meant the Saturday results -- UND winning, but UMD losing -- are okay because at least the Bulldogs lost. For OSU, I don't think the weekend helped the Buckeyes cause much. UMD has an easier road remaining over the final two weekends.

I'll never buy you as some authority with superior knowledge of "the game" DS. Particularly the WCHA. Yet I'm sure there are many who could never dream of grasping "the game" as completely and thoroughly as the great...DS. Is there a particular team you support? Or is it just the team(s) that win on a given night? Or is it no team and you just troll the entire forum in ceaseless fashion? That last one's rhetorical DS. I know the answer but realize you wouldn't have been capable of discerning the rhetorical nature. :)

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/3 - 2/4

The only thing to say about tonight's game is Natalie Spooner took over she even managed to come out on the ice after an OSU icing, #25 Paige Semenza was hiding behind her teammates and the refs couldn't figure it out (NHL refs will check replays to see who was on the ice, NCAA needs that with the icing rules) and Spooner jumped over the boards.. Mendel's explanation to Miller "Hey, I got 4 of 5 right"

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/3 - 2/4

Spooner is a brick **** house. Did you see girls BOUNCE off of her? Not to mention all snipe like. Ugh.

Mendel=joke! He gave out the first ever Women's fighing DQ when UND's Weber threw 1-2 punches with her gloves on and then it was over haha

Spooner is a special player who has the ability to take over games. We are sure going to miss #5 next season!

So does the NHL hand out a delay of game penalty if a team tries to send the wrong people out? Because in the college game, by the time the refs would get done checking replays (and many arena's don't have a replay available that would show all skaters on the ice), the team that iced the puck would nave been able to rest so the advantage would be moot.

The whole sport will miss her once she is gone. I don't think those outside of the WCHA really appreciate how great a player she is, because they haven't gotten to see her. However, there are 7 coaches in the WCHA that are looking forward to the opportunity to miss her.

With regard to Home Ice for the playoffs, you're correct. The "smart money" will be on the Bulldogs, for the reason you mention.

But let's not forget that a win over one of the sport's great powers, especially on their home ice, is always worth having. Great job tonight, Buckeyes!
