Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/3 - 2/4

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/3 - 2/4

Careful not to raise the ire of the Metycalf guy and his snoring eagles.
Yeah.

You know... that guy who has a D that actuallyplays hockey. The guy that has invested time, money and a great deal of love to make sure his D can live to her potential and fulfill her dream. Maybe you don't have kids Brooktrout, so you don't get it. You don't get how much you want them to succeed and be happy because you love them so. ****. much. His "Snoring Eagles" could suck and be goons but at least he's got a **** good reason to be a passionate fan.

Beats some 50-something who knows a liiiitttle too much about the personal details of high school and collegiate age girls in his metro bubble. So, instead of scantily clad women hanging in your sports car shop and garage, do you have head shots of the entire gopher squad? Or do you limit it to the blonde hair, blue eyed girls only?

Annnyway... I'm so looking forward to the Buckeyes coming to town. I couldn't believe what I was seeing on the WCHA scoreboard last weekend with their game against UND. It's sure to be a great game. Spooner is amazing to watch. I just hope the UMD girls can finally figure out how to shut her down because she certainly showed that she has Harss figured out. How is McIntosh playing, osualum? I seem to remember her being a playmaker but I can't recall if I have heard much on her this season.

I anticipate two really good games . . . a series with big implications for both teams. I'm hoping UMD isn't looking too far ahead in terms of consequences for them . . . . one game at a time please!!!

Always tough to stop the Spooner, Langon and McIntosh line as they always seems to bring a good game against the Dogs. I'm hopeful though for two UMD wins with tight D and good netminding. I'd like to see UMD go bombs away from the outside (Wong, Laquette, Villila)and crash, crash, crash with Irwin, Willy, Corny, Winberg, etc to rattle Steffes early. Hope the games have great tempo!!

Go DOGS!!!

Hey Skatefast! We definitely had a nice game last Friday against UND. Unfortunately we couldn't get another W in the Saturday game. "Laura Mac" is playing some great hockey this season. She continues to be a playmaker for us and in fact, she has tied the career points record and only needs one more point to set a new career points record here. Spooner is Spooner, and I agree with you that she is amazing to watch. LOL, I actually participated in a trivia contest between periods in last Friday's game and Natalie Spooner was the answer to one of the questions. I told her Mom after the game that I knew I better get that question right or she would kick my butt. But I digress. Should be an interesting few weeks. We have a brutal schedule left, but I believe our kids are talented enough and we have a good enough team that we can get points. I am not going to make any bold predictions about where we will end up in the standings (would love to stay in the 4th spot and have home ice in the first round), but we have shown that we can play with and beat some of the best teams in the league. Wish I had the coin to make some of these road trips. I would love to see UMD's new arena or Ridder or The Ralph.

UMD's AMSOIL is nice, and I really like the new Sanford Center in Bemidji as well. Are you planning to make the drive to Madison in the future to check out their new home, once they move in?

That would be a fun road trip, and one of the more reasonable ones on the schedule for us, other than if we play Niagara up there next season. I am guessing Madison is six or seven hours from here in central Ohio. Ok, I stand corrected. Just mapquested it ... almost eight hours from here to Madison. Just googled and saw the sketches of the new place at Wisconsin. Looks really nice. I am totally beating a dead horse (just ask my other OSU friends), but Ohio State needs to make a similar commitment to our hockey programs and build a hockey-only facility. Unfortunately, people I know who are close to the athletic department say a new hockey arena is at the bottom of the to-do list right now. It's a shame.

And every time someone in the football or basketball program breaks a rule, it probably gets shoved a little farther down. There are rumors that Mankato might eventually get funding to play the women's games in the same place as the men's games, which would leave you alone in the WCHA in terms of "need a new barn".

In the event that you make here, there are drinks reserved with your name on them.

Binny-

Forgot about Hokey, too. Man, I sure hope the dogs come out the way they did in Madison. Determined and hard work is the only way to play for the rest of the season. Audrey is having quite a season so we will need her. Wong and Laquette on the Blue line could do some damage if they shoot. Wong has created momentum the last couple series for sure... hopefully she will keep it up. McP can be dangerous on any given night depending on what version of her shows up. I would like to see Kenyon make some points. She's a hustler for sure and she seems to be getting in position, we just need the right bounces.

Skatefast, thank you for that offer! I will now have to save some money and somehow make a trip to Duluth at some point. Plus, I need Haley Irwin to sign my Hockey Canada Olympic DVD. I am trying my darndest to get all 21 players sigs on that thing, but it's going to be a challenge. I actually took it to the OSU vs UMD game (the Friday nighter), but I just could not bring myself to approach Haley after the 4-1 loss to us. I just have this unwritten rule that I don't approach players from the other team decked out in my OSU garb if we win. Unfortunately I was not able to make the Saturday night game when UMD returned the favor. Mrs 86 and I have been saving our money to go to the Womens Worlds in Vermont in April. Maybe we should change those plans and come to the Frozen Four instead, huh? The thing with the Womens Worlds is we will have several of our Buckeyes playing and it is always great seeing your kids playing for their countries. After your offer, though, Duluth and Amsoil Arena is now on my bucket list! Take care, Skatefast! Here's to a couple of good games this weekend between our teams!

I'm sure Haley appreciated that you did not approach her. That said, I'm always pleasantly surprised at the graciousness of the girls post games, even after a loss. I think it would be a great tribute of respect for the women's game to approach a player not playing for "your team" to say, "hey, I really respect what you are doing even if you are the enemy".

I say go to Vermont and support your OSU players. These young women don't get enough kudos and I've got to think that would be amazing to have fans in the stands simply because of the University connection! The drinks will still be here...

Mrs 86 and I have been saving our money to go to the Womens Worlds in Vermont in April.

Went to the Worlds here in 2007...as avid a fan and as understanding (of the human side/element of the game) as I believe that you are, I'm sure that you will be in Women's Hockey Heaven...it's an absolutely incredible experience, especially
when you are constantly conscious of the fact that everyone on the ice or on the bench is a human being and has a story of sacrifice and success, disappointments and hardships, victories and defeats as well as injuries but kept persisting until their drive culminated in bringing them to this day, this moment, in this building...where you are privileged, in this space in time, with the opportunity to pay to watch the sum total of their individual struggles, efforts and dedication. With your depth of understanding it's an experience that I'm sure you won't quickly forget.

Re: Ohio State @ Minnesota-Duluth 2/3 - 2/4

Thanks for the notes, Skatefast and Blackbeard. I certainly respect and admire the efforts of the girls playing the game we all love, even if they are wearing the other team's sweater. And playing in the WCHA, I have certainly seen a lot of great players come to the OSU Ice Arena with the other team's sweaters (LOL)! Thankfully, we have had our share of great players, too. The only bad thing about Worlds is we are basically just going to go up for the medal games. I wish we were able to be there for the entire week. Now that would definitely be Women's Hockey Heaven! We'll have a great time, though!

Agree!!! I hope people take it seriously. You can't be too careful these days. The sick stuff that was removed from the RIT thread was pretty bad. And on top of that, another shot was taken at people north of the border unfortunately. Sad really. Tom Brokaw, we need you again! :)

Anyways........This series will be a split. I have friends on both sides. :) Huge step for either side to sweep, and it's the right time of the season to be making a big move. Good luck to both teams. And Skatefast...good job! :)

I hope to be there for the medal games as well. I'm sure Hux and DC will be up. They have friends up there. Sounds like an opportunity to meet some folks from the boards when the time comes. Tailgate perhaps ?.
