Ohio State Coach???

Re: Ohio State Coach???

Looking at OSU's results against Minnesota this past season. 4-2, 5-3, 3-1 losses and a 3-3 tie. Not what you would call blowouts. It remains to be seen how the team will do with the loss of the twins next year. They will likely generate more offense however may be a little more prone to defensive breakdowns.

On the other hand, this year Ohio State went 1-14-3 against the top four in the WCHA. Their record against Minnesota, Minnesota-Duluth, North Dakota, and Wisconsin over the last five years is 16-69-7 and they haven't beaten Minnesota in a game without a shootout since 2008. They have a long, long way to go before they enter the national championship discussion.

That record is a bit sobering compared to the lofty prediction of very soon competing for national championships...As is the fact that Ohio State's facilities, to put it kindly, are less than ideal .

I do have lofty predictions and I urge you to let me know how good a prognosticator I am after the '18 season.

No I am not Potter's husband or her dad. As posted before, I have NEVER met her!

As for recruiting, I think the allure of a great education along with a really talented and fair coach coupled with the chance to get swept up in the spirit of the football and other sports programs makes Columbus a great destination for student athletes.

As for a rink, there will be a new one soon. In the mean time, they will learn to win in the one they have.

GO BUCKEYES!!!!:D

Don't get me started on our facilities. I have been venting about our facilities for years (men's included). :D

I'm probably as confused as everyone else. Potter is no longer coaching at your alma mater, you say you've never met her, and now you're jumping on the Ohio State bandwagon and telling everyone how great they'll be in a few years?? I guess no one will be surprised when your screen name changes to OSU 11.

Good luck to Jenny Potter at Ohio State, I'm very interested to see how her first few years go as well as her first few recruiting classes. D1 is a totally different ballgame than D3. I hope she can use her name effectively and get this program over the hump!

The Who are underrated as far as I am concerned. Great band and even now they can bring it!

The Bants will miss Potter. It is a great school with a top facility in a strong conference. She can't be replaced but someone talented will take the reins and they will still be a top program.

I am a JP fan and supporter. I didn't play at OSU therefore I will not now be OSU11. I do want and expect OSU to do well and I look forward to seeing it happen.

I don't even know where to begin.

I'll start with "even now they can bring it".

This is an extremely insulting failure to recognize that Pete and Roger touring with a 17 piece back up group is most definitely not THE WHO.

Pete is arguably the greatest of all time at what he has spent his life doing. I am willing to consider slow hand and Keef, and old dead Jerry, and anyone else you want to throw out there but there is not a single other one who automatically wins. Pete is part of the conversation.

Pete has said that the Who had three great musical genii. Roger wasn't one of the three which is the reason why at one point John, Keith and Pete were willing to consider throwing Roger out of the band after he started to act like he was the star of the show. They all thought of him as an effective vocalist and front man, none of the others thought he was the focal point of the band.

Doesn't mean much now. Moon followed the classic rock life model of live at top speed, die young leave a beautiful corpse. At long last Entwistle retired from the band before he also passed at too young an age.

If the Who are underrated it is only by the likes of you.

I think OSU has made a great hire. The new coach is not an automatic slam dunk for the Buckeyes but the potential exists for something special to happen in Columbus.

As a Gopher fan, I personally hope not. We have plenty to deal with already with the Badgers.

Well said.

Good to know someone on this site is interested and knowledgeable on the topic. Went to see them seven or eight years ago and they had Zak Starkey on drums, which I thought was interesting, and Pete's younger brother on bass. Great concert....notwithstanding a half our technical problem...enjoyed it...but you are right, the purist who is old enough recognizes and realizes that this is not The Who...it is a facsimile, reasonable or otherwise.

Sort of like some hockey teams.

You hit it on the nail Pucko. A great name does not make thee a great coach. And coaching D3 does not make you ready for D1. The name recognition may attract at first but it will be the kind of coach in the end that will tell all. I for one am not a fan of Potter as a teacher. I am a fan of her as a player but as a coach and teacher not so much. Hope she proves me wrong for the sake of the growth of women's hockey. Thank god her assistants will be doing the recruiting. That might help!

Have experience with her as a teacher/coach? Agree with you that a great player does not mean a great coach. Few in any sport meet those two, typically it's an avg player that makes a very good coach. Chapter needs to be written, and OSU needs to give $upport.

Don't get me wrong, love the Who, but how is this relevant to Coaching in Women's college hockey ?
