Ohio State Buckeyes 2020-2021 ... Unfinished Business

Yes, I also remember Beach Boys as a kid, one of our first cassettes in the 80’s. Nice article, both of you.

Some Ohio State Beach Boys trivia for those that don’t know: Former Buckeye Tessa Bonhomme’s uncle Tim Bonhomme played keyboard for the touring iteration of The Beach Boys that existed in the late 90’s. One of those odd facts that comes up from time to time in press she does.

And the Captain of Captain & Tennille was their keyboard player from '67-'72, just throwin the trivia out there that has nothing to do with hockey.

Was going to ask the same thing -- who were the players OSU was worried about possibly missing?

Good luck to your squad, friends

First line center Liz Schepers missed a bunch of the WCHA final; most of the last two periods, I think.

But Ohio State has a line chart posted on their twitter, and Schepers is there.

Saekkinen listed as well.

Ohio State advanced to the Frozen Four with a 3-1 win over Boston College earlier this evening. The Eagles opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Savannah Norcross and the teams went into the first intermission with BC leading 1-0. The Buckeyes made a big push in the second period and eventually found the back of the net twice on goals from Jenna Buglioni and the eventual game-winner from Brooke Bink to make it 2-1 heading into the second intermission. Ohio State would add an insurance goal in the third period from Gabby Rosenthal to make it 3-1 and that is how the game ended. The Buckeyes outshot the Eagles 48-13. Andrea Braendli stopped 12 of the 13 shots she faced. Give BC netminder Abigail Levy a ton of credit for keeping her team in the game. For those who are not aware, Levy spent some time in the WCHA with Minnesota State before transferring to Boston College. Boston College ends their season with a 14-6 record. The Buckeyes move to 13-6 on the season and advance to the Frozen Four where they will have a rematch with the Wisconsin Badgers, who defeated them last weekend 3-2 in OT to earn the WCHA Final Faceoff Title. Minnesota-Duluth will take on Northeastern in the other Frozen Four semi-final.

Just got back to Columbus a few minutes ago. Somehow have to work in the morning. But was it worth it? Yes. Yes it was.

Confidential to '86: We made it to Erie. Didn't bust. Now it's time to finish that business.

Confidential to #18: At the end of warm-ups, I swear I saw you fly back to the locker room on a magic hockey stick. I have GOT to cut back on the caffeine. Or maybe not. Whatever you've got brewing in the "cauldron" of yours, just keep on brewing!!

EDIT: And To The Whole Buckeye Team: Stay Just As Intense, Yet As Loose, As You Were Tuesday Night. You Guys Have Great Team Chemistry. It Serves You Well. Go Bucks!

Before moving on to UW, did anyone watching on video get a good look at our Insurance Goal against BC? Yeah, I was in the building - at the opposite end of the ice. I lost sight of the puck momentarily, then suddenly it was resting happily behind the goal line. Those seated near me seemed equally unsure. I'm guessing a crazy bounce, or maybe a deflection off the Eagle Defender who is in the area. But if anyone has a definitive answer, I'm ready to learn!

Yes, let's finish that business! So, about that goal ... Having watched it several times on replays, it actually bounced off the wall first, then appeared to hit Levy's back, or possibly the back of her left leg (it was hard to tell even with the replays), then it appeared to hit her right skate and trickled in. Was it a lucky bounce? Absolutely! But then, I have seen plenty of those go in on us over the years, so I will take it! Cannot wait to see tomorrow's game. I am hearing there are still tickets, but we were not able to plan ahead. Would have been great to be there, but by the time it was decided that some fans could be there, it was too late for me to get off work. Saturday would be a different story, should we win tomorrow, but they are saying Saturday's game is sold out. We will be watching on tv. Maybe next year we can actually attend games.

Hats off to the Badgers in this one. Ohio State made a nice comeback, but Wisconsin was better in this game with the big difference being a 2-goal second period after already being up 1-0 at the first intermission. Spotting a team the caliber of Wisconsin a 3-0 lead is never a good idea and it proved to be too much to overcome for the Buckeyes. The game was less than two-minutes old when the Badgers Makenna Webster scored to put Wisconsin up 1-0 early. Neither team could find the back of the net the rest of the period and that was how the first period ended. In the decisive second period, the Badgers got goals from Casey O'Brien and Caitlin Schneider to take a 3-0 lead. Ohio State got on the board on a goal from Gabby Rosenthal late in the period and the teams went into the second intermission with Wisconsin leading Ohio State 3-1. Ohio State's Sara Saekkinen scored at the 7:55 mark of the third period to cut the lead to 3-2 and make it interesting, but that was as close as the Buckeyes would get. Daryl Watts added an empty-netter with 14 seconds to go and the Badgers advanced to the National Championship Game with a 4-2 win. Ohio State outshot Wisconsin 39-23 with Buckeye netminder Andrea Braendli stopping 19 of the 22 shots she faced. Wisconsin goaltender Kennedy Blair stopped 37 of the 39 shots she faced. The Badgers will face Northeastern Saturday. Ohio State's season comes to a bitter end with a 13-7 record, but the Buckeyes can hold their heads high. Ohio State proved it was worthy of the #3 seed in the NCAA Tournament and has certainly established itself as one of the top programs in the country. Good luck to the Badgers in the next one! This Buckeye fan will be pulling for you!

Congratulations to the Badgers, and especially the Badgers' 3rd Line. I can't ever remember seeing a 3rd Line have such a big impact on an outcome.

That's true. Wisconsin has a history of getting big goals from its 3rd line at the FF. Tia Hanson had the only goal of the semi in UW's first title year. Sophia Shaver scored the first and winning goal in the championship in 2019. It's nice when you can get offense from anywhere.

Two honest questions for the Buckeye faithful:
1) Did Muzz lean too heavily on her first line last night? Watching the game, it seemed like the third line was generating the most and best scoring chances and that maybe 27 should have been on the ice more than 17. Looking at the stats this morning, I can’t tell if they confirm this or not. The first line totaled 10 shots to the third line’s 4 but the first line was -7 to the third line’s +1. Thoughts?

2) I do not mean this in a sexist way at all, but what was up with Muzz’s hairstyle? Was this a superstition thing? It looked a bit ridiculous and made it hard to take her seriously during her between periods TV interview. I can’t imagine players looking at those Mickey Mouse ears as she’s getting on them during the game.
