Ohio State Buckeyes 2020-2021 ... Unfinished Business

2) I do not mean this in a sexist way at all, but what was up with Muzz’s hairstyle? Was this a superstition thing? It looked a bit ridiculous and made it hard to take her seriously during her between periods TV interview. I can’t imagine players looking at those Mickey Mouse ears as she’s getting on them during the game.

LOL. I can bail you out a little on this one. When the Wisconsin men started playing this year, head coach Tony Granato's hair was maybe three or four inches longer than his 'normal', and otherwise looked really shaggy and odd, as if he had not had a hair cut since the start of COVID (to which I can certainly relate, though nobody is putting me on TV, thank God). So much so that the BTN announcers even mentioned it and made a bit of fun of it. After a couple weeks he was back to normal.

Two honest questions for the Buckeye faithful:
1) Did Muzz lean too heavily on her first line last night? Watching the game, it seemed like the third line was generating the most and best scoring chances and that maybe 27 should have been on the ice more than 17. Looking at the stats this morning, I can’t tell if they confirm this or not. The first line totaled 10 shots to the third line’s 4 but the first line was -7 to the third line’s +1. Thoughts?

I don’t take it as sexist. I like how bold she is. Like she gives zero f’s about being different. I can 100% understand why you were like wait what is with the hair? I had a similar reaction, but then was like that’s just who she seems to be. It’s different than the ponytails sported by the other lady coaches, or conservative cuts the men have. My kid said she thought it was cool and said she wants to try it. On another Slack group I’m in someone was talking about it, called them space buns and everyone did rocket emojis. So it was fun. Unique for sure.

Ok I googled space buns and here’s what I found:

“Space buns have come back into style in the past year or so, and they are set to be even more popular in 2021.“ Originally from the 90’s and Gwen Stefani.

so maybe next year all the coaches will have them, lol.

Okay but it screamed a little bit of “Look at me! Look at me!” Is that game really the time to be cutting edge with your hairstyle to the point that I wasn’t the only one to notice it? Isn’t this tournament the time to keep things focused and simple?

It’s definitely an argument someone can make. It’s a fine line between being too loose and playing flat, or being wound up too tight to execute. Probably lots of things influence either possibility.

Such a bummer OSU lost. Mark Johnson won’t be sporting space buns on Saturday, but maybe he’ll switch up his mask color or style! :-) And to his credit he’s the only one going with the neck warmer style.

To balance things out a bit, my bride hated Johnson’s tie. She’s a WI alum and thought he should have been wearing a Badger Red tie instead of some “wishy-washy maroon” color. (laughing emoji)

Hahahaha that’s great. Gotta have fun with this stuff.

Glad UW got a win. It was rough on my wife, she is From Ohio and loves her buckeyes, when the game was over she gave me a big kiss and whispered in my ear, "Your team still sucks at football", to which I said, "How come you couldn't beat Gump's team? " I got the evil eye look. Every time UW plays Ohio State be hate each other for 2 hours and I wouldn't want it any other way.

I feel your pain, my wife is a wolverine. But one piece of advice, don't push the in house rivalry too far with the wife or your sex life might just be you and a closed bathroom door! LOL!
(sorry moderators, couldn't help myself!)

I was looking at something else just now, and remembered to look at MJ's tie. It was pretty darn close to being 'scarlet and grey'! :-O

This is absolutely the issue. And it can be difficult for a coach to tell which need is greater -- to loosen up or intensify focus. And often impossible for those of us outside the room to know.

That said, my guess is that both teams were focusing more on staying loose. I believe it was Badger players who took the "Polar Bear Plunge" into Lake Erie. Watching the game live, I had assumed that Coach's "Stefani Hair" was part of an analogous effort on the Buckeye side.

It makes sense. Two closely matched teams, very familiar with each other, stakes off the charts. It's more than human to be a little uptight. And in this scenario, watching more game film probably isn't the answer.

Looking back in history, I recall that UMD went "platinum blonde" during a FF. Yes, including Shannon Miller. During an intermission interview, she was asked if there was anything different about being blonde. to which she immediately responded: "I'm having more fun." Probably a prepared line, but a good one. And again, consistent with the idea of getting players to loosen up and enjoy the moment.

Sadly for the most part our local paper the Dispatch pretty much ignores our men & women's hockey programs and gives more coverage to high school sports.
Only when we're in tournaments do we get decent write ups. If we could get them to do full stories during the course of the season it would go far in promoting the programs and increasing attendance.

We sit behind the opposing team's bench and it's always fun to see what in the world she'll be wearing and how she does her hair. One game she came out in 5" high heels and by the middle of the first period she was barefoot lol.

So on the radio it sounded like OSU missed the net on some wide open looks in the first 2 periods. What are your observations on those?

There is a full replay available at ESPN's web site. Click on 'Thursday' at the top, and then scroll down to 'ice hockey'.

Skaggs had some really heavy shots during the game but nowhere near the net and Jaques fanned on a given goal when the puck came across the crease to where she was posted up on the empty side of the net.

I hear Lauren Bernard is transferring to Ohio State from Clarkson (per the transfer thread). Hometown of Madison, Ohio. Good luck to her, and I hope to read more about her soon. Haven’t followed her college career but I believe she was in the mix with USA Hockey as a teen.

D Teagan Grant has joined the OSU family from WI. She's in for a shock going from a coach that never yells to, well, the Mizzinator. She looked good as Fr, but slipped down the D pecking order last year. I would say she's a good pick-up.
