Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

The OSU roster will continue to be a work in progress, big class coming in next year will displace some current players as Muzzerall gets "her players" to Columbus. Potter was on this road also and Muzzerall's ties to Minny should garner some high end players from there in the future. Always believed OSU has a chance to compete with MN and Wisc. with their resources. If this happens good luck to the lower half of the WCHA.

They have a solid core to work with and it gets better next year. Of notice is how soft this team is in the defensive end. Many giveaways, bad passes, lost battles in the corners. Constant pressure on the goaltender. This team needs to play with more grit or they will continue to spend more time than required in their end even against some of the weaker opponents. This doesn't mean dirty play, it simply means playing with a little more intensity at both ends of the rink. Work in progress is the best to put it as stated above.

?? The new coach just took over. Will she have any of "her players" next year?

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

She kept some 2017 commits, some moved in a different direction and she has added some new ones. Also picking up some 2018's and hot on some 2019's.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Be afraid... Very afraid...

With only 2 seniors on the current roster and at least 5 incoming players I would expect some changes to occur. Not a lot of room for d-men. 2 top forwards are needed immediately.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Eeyore - I want you to have your info right...here are the "recruits" Handrahan is responsible for (Sauve, Dunne x 2, Boyle, Sadek, Field, Iafallo, Riemenschneider, Grant, Bouley, Matheny, Langermeier, Spring) also the class of 2017 - Maltais & Skaggs (I've probably missed some)

I'm not sure quite how I wasn't clear. It's no one on this year's team; I said that there were several players on last year's team, but that graduated, that were the primary problem.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

My comment earlier in this thread was not in any way intended as a punch. It was intended as a complement.
Your Freudian slip is revealing. Your past body of work complements your current comments, conveying a fuller meaning.

Given the history, the idea that I would look to you for "reassurance" on this subject is bizarre. At least to this point in time.

You have a team now that's fun to watch. I also don't think it has anything to do with Nadine Muzerall becoming the coach, just mostly a matter of cleaning out the last of the Handrahan regime. Without a few specific players who graduated from last year's team, I strongly suspect that this would have been the case had Jenny Potter still been the coach.
Our Nadine Muzerall hire put you in an untenable position. Here in Columbus, the announcement was 100% wonderful news. But after my initial euphoria passed, my next thought was: Oh-oh. Eeyore's head is going to explode.

For years your narrative has been that Buckeye Hockey is all evil, all the time. Then we hire a member of Gopher Hockey Royalty to be our new leader. What to do? Revise the narrative. By casting out the sinners and hiring a saint as the head coach, OSU has been redeemed. Deny the second part of that if you must, but it is at the heart of the matter.

Overall, I'd say you've dealt with the cognitive disonance rather well. Hats off to thee. Let's embrace the new positive tone and move forward.

Let's just say that your attempts at long distance psychoanalyzing are an indication that you shouldn't quit your day job.

But you've always enjoyed my posts so much in the past. What could possibly have gone wrong?

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

The good news is that the Buckeyes are playing in 'Kato this weekend, so we can talk about that soon. :)

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

The game just went final a little bit ago. Ohio State gets past Minnesota State earlier today by a final score of 2-1. Minnesota State did outshoot the Buckeyes today 34-26, but Ohio State goalie Kassidy Sauve stopped 33 of those shots. Maverick netminder Katie Bidulka stopped 24 of the 26 shots she faced for Minnesota State. Ohio State's goals were scored by Julianna Iafallo and Rebecca Freiburger. The Maverick goal was scored by Jordan McLaughlin. The two teams are back at it tomorrow at 2:07 pm CST.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Scoring has been an issue this season and it may end up biting the Buckeyes today as they are down 2-0 to the Mavericks late in the second period. Ohio State appeared to start playing with a little more urgency after Minnesota State scored their second goal, but still hasn't scored. Ohio State appears to have gotten on the board, but the goal is being reviewed. The Buckeye goal was scored by Crystal Sorem. Minnesota State's goals were scored by Emily Antony and Lindsey Coleman. Should be an interesting third period. Not a bad feed on Minnesota State's website.

Buckeyes have not had any scoring opportunities. Coach needs to work on the PP or change the lineup. More concerning is the horrible play in the defensive end. So many give aways. Team playing a very soft game.
