Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

I was equally surprised as I had always assumed it was hockey-related myself. I am not even sure it was a car accident. The story indicated that she hit her head on a car door, but it did not necessarily say that a crash was involved, unless I misread it. But, yeah, us Buckeye fans are thrilled that Jincy is back on the ice. Having seen her in person in Wisconsin a couple weeks ago, she is very talented and is only going to get better. I am looking forward to seeing where Jincy and her teammates are later this season after more practice time with this coaching staff. Hope to see Hokey down here soon.

I got to watch Jincy Dinne play in person this weekend. I was excited to see what all the hype was. I will say I was impressed. She is a nice player and one you have to keep your eye on when she is on the ice. OS moved her to wing in the third period in hopes of finding some offense. No question this kid has skill. I am curious, however why does she have an "A" on her sweater. I am not questioning her leadership, you just do not see freshman (although she is a redshirt) as captains on many teams. I am wondering if this created any rifts with the older kids?

I think she is about 100 days younger than Landeskog was when he got the 'C' for the Colorado Avalanche :)

Interesting piece of info. You're right, freshman don't get the honor this early, but my guess is this was part of letting her know how excited they are to have her with the team and all or almost all players thought it was a really cool thing to do.

Interesting question. There are only 2 seniors on the team. One did not play and the other only sparingly. This is a very young team in transition with the bulk of the players being sophomores or freshman. She, along with Sauve, appear to be the leaders of the team. But probably not a good idea having a goalie wear a letter on the ice.

She has more elite level experience than anyone on the team and her personality might make her a leader (that is my supposition). But for sure her play would make her a leader on the ice. Given the termoil Muzzy may have decided to think long-term.

As much as I don't want her winning against MN I am very excited to see her play, she has a little talent. This is good for the game.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Besides having elite experience (The) Ohio State wants to make she sure to give her what she wants. They certainly do not want to lose another one to Wisconsin

I think that she is quite happy at OSU, playing with her sister and really being counted upon to help turn this program around. Even though she is a freshman, please remember that she was with the team all of last year and is not necessarily new to the team. As a player yes but as a teammate no. I would not believe for a minute that Jincy would leave a program if she didn't get a letter. I think she deserves more credit than that!

IIRC, it was literally against the rules until fairly recently.

Though it should be kept in mind that I've been around a while. For me, 5 or 10 years ago qualifies as "fairly recently." :o

Very well put.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

I'm interested if anyone has insight on freshman Sorem. I've known her since she was in kindergarten.

I don't really have any insights on Crystal. If you have already checked our box scores, I will apologize in advance for the redundancy here, but she does not appear to have played in our first four games vs RPI and Wisconsin. She does appear in the box scores for our games at Bemidji. The team was on the road for the first six games, so I am not sure if she was injured or Coach Muzerall was maybe still figuring out where she fit in with our line-up. Other than that, your guess is probably as good as mine! So, are you or any other Minnesota posters going to make it down for this? We're kind of a WCHA outpost down here so I know that is not an easy proposition, but I have seen and met Eeyore and CrazyDave down here, among others. It's kind of cool to put a face with a name. I met Timothy A when we went to Wisconsin a couple weekends ago. Anyway, have a safe trip if you are coming down.

Unless I missed something or am not very observant, Kassidy Sauve is not a captain or assistant captain, so there's no letter on her sweater.

No, not making it down. Crystal had the flu for a while (per her dad), probably impacted her availability but I wasn't sure which games she has played. Thanks.

Glad to see she is healthy and in the line-up. I am looking forward to finally seeing the team at home.

I believe what was said was that along with Jincy, she was an apparent leader and not that she had a letter on her sweater.

Actually, Crutch did say something about a letter on her sweater. Maybe you missed that post, I'll quote here for you ... "Interesting question. There are only 2 seniors on the team. Sorry for confusion. I was only stating that Jincy Dunne and Sauve appear to be the leaders of the team. Also listen to Coach Muzzeralls press conference yesterday where she states Sauve is indeed one of the teams leaders. I dont believe they have given out permanent letters yet but my comment was more about it not being a good idea to have a goalie wear one, not that she was wearing one.

After playing their first 3 series on larger ice surfaces built for speed it will be interesting to see how they do this weekend on a smaller surface.

The Sanford Center rink is the standard 200x85. USCHO lists Houston Fieldhouse at Rensselaer as 200x85, while the RPI webpage says it's smaller than normal at 185x85.

OSU Ice Rink is regulation NHL size 200' x 85'according to their website. The larger capacity rinks may give the impression that ice surfaces are larger but seems like they are not.

Thanks for the clarification Crutch. I just listened to Coach Muzerall's press conference earlier at lunch. Kind of neat to see our women's hockey coach holding a press conference in the middle of the week.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

That was a really tough one to swallow. We were outshot again, but overall I thought we played really well. Sauve made some great saves and we got a few nice blocked shots too. Even if we're not at a Minnesota level yet, I think we're definitely gonna finish a few spots higher in the WCHA this year. Having a full student section was fun too.

I agree, it's tough watching the girls go toe-to-toe with the best teams in the country and not get rewarded, other than the tie at Wisconsin and the 3-1 win at Bemidji. The SOG were 27-17 in favor of Minnesota, but I agree, our girls played really well tonight. Credit Minnesota, though, for controlling the puck tonight and tiring us out on some of their possessions. They had some possessions on offense tonight where it seemed like they had the puck forever, like they were on a power play or something. They are a talented bunch and certainly worthy of their #2 ranking. OTOH, as I told a couple of the girls after the game, we have played three of the top teams in the country in this young season and we have been competitive with all of them, so it's not a fluke. This program is clearly moving in the right direction with the new coaching staff. Kassidy Sauve is a tremendous goaltender and as you alluded to, our defenders are doing a nice job of blocking some shots so that they don't get through. Talking to some of the girls after the game, they were not happy with the loss, but they are really working hard and are all in with the new coaching staff. I completely agree with you, this team is not going to finish 7th this season. I really love this team and the new coaching staff. I also agree on the crowd. The KnuckleBucks were out in full force, and it was nice to have a pep band there as well. A couple of other stats about the game, Ohio State's goals were scored by Jacyn Reeves (her first as a Buckeye) and Maddy Field. The Minnesota goals were scored by Sarah Potomak (3). Wow, ok, I had not realized that Sarah had a hat trick tonight. I thought she had two of the Gopher goals, but I thought someone else scored the other goal. That is according to the box score on ohiostatebuckeyes.com. Kassidy Sauve stopped 24 shots tonight and Sidney Peters stopped 15 of the 17 shots she faced. The two teams are back at it tomorrow at 3:07 pm EST. I know this is the women's forum, but the men beat Bowling Green earlier tonight 5-4, so that was good news.
