Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

If I'm not mistaken Sauve was out last year with a bad injury correct? She seems to have recovered haha.

Kassidy was injured last season and was not able to go, and although she was pretty staunch her freshman year, she was not 100% that year. She is completely healthy now and you and I are going to have the privilege of seeing what she can do at 100%. RPI got a taste of that this weekend when she stopped 66 of the 67 shots she saw against them. I talked to a couple of the girls today (saw them at the men's exhibition game vs Wilfred Laurier). They were happy with the wins against RPI, but they have already moved on and are looking forward to the next challenge. They like the new coaching staff. They said the new coaches work them hard, but the coaches really care about them. It's going to be tough this coming weekend at #1 Wisconsin, but I am really looking forward to getting up there to cheer the girls on and meet the new coaches.

So do they have a full coaching staff yet or are they going with only 2 coaches this year so their genius of an AD can save some money? The staff directory shows vacancies for a second assistant coach, director of hockey operations, and office associate for the women's hockey team. Or do they just take forever to update their website because that's so hard and time consuming to do?!

Don't know the answer to most of your questions but I have noticed they are slow to update the website!

I believe all vacancy's have been filled. New asst coach still working on visa issues. Positive changes all around. Program is on the right track.

I did not make it up to Troy, NY, for the series vs RPI, but I was very happy with the results. I am not sure how good RPI is going to be, but I will take a sweep on the road any day!

Well, now that one OSU goaltender is back in the lineup, is there any insight what's going on with Alex LaMere? Let's put it this way... after this tweet, even with no other information, I'd be surprised to see her dressed for at least a couple of weeks.

I wouldn't read too much into the wins last week as RPI is not all that good. If I were a Buckeye fan I would be worried about my defense. Jincy Dunne is really good but, after that there is a significant drop off. Ohio St. gave up a combined 67 shots on goal last week to a pretty underwhelming group of RPI forwards. This week could be ugly if they don't tighten up defensively as the Badgers have 3 lines offensively that can score, and score big. Way more team speed coming at the Buckeye defense this week too. It's also the Badgers home opener so they will be pretty pumped up for these game and playing in front of their home crowd.

I would take two wins over two losses any day no matter who the opponent is. As for your comments on their defense, I agree that Jincy is a very good player but recall from watching them play last year that they have a few other very good players on the back end in Lauren Boyle, Dani Sadek and Jincy's sister Jessica and some very decent recruits. It is quite obvious that the upcoming weekend will be a challenge for this young team given the apparent limited time they have had with their new HC. Wisco will be a challenge for 95% of the teams they play against! I would certainly give this team a few months before judging their performance too critically. Just saying!

I wasn't trying to be critical and I apologize if my comments read that way! I was only pointing out that the defense you just mentioned allowed almost 70 shots against last weekend. If that happens this weekend then Ohio St. doesn't have much of a chance..

Same thing that was said when JP took over, just saying.

Except JP and her hubby both have humongous egos and that is never a good thing in a team sport. The two new coaches don't have that type of reputation as far as I've heard anyway. Just saying.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Ohio State dropped a tough game vs Wisconsin earlier tonight by a final score of 3-0. Wisconsin got a goal in each period and their smothering defense did not allow Ohio State to get much going on offense, even on power plays. Wisconsin led in shots on goal by a margin of 47-15. All three of the Badger goals were scored on breakaways or odd-man rushes. Kassidy Sauve had 44 saves on the 47 shots she faced and kept the Buckeyes in the game. Wisconsin is ranked #1 for a reason, and that D of theirs is going to give a lot of teams problems this season. The Buckeyes have things to work on, but they also did some good things considering their coaching staff has only been in place for a few weeks. We were able to speak to many of the girls after the game and they are ready to get back to work tomorrow. Emily Clark had two of Wisconsin's goals and Jenny Ryan had the other goal. Wisconsin Goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens stopped all 15 OSU shots she faced. Tee two teams are back at it tomorrow at 1:00 pm CST.

A couple other notes, it was great meeting fellow uscho.com poster Timothy A. Also, a big shout out to the couple who gave us some extra tickets to the game! We also got to talk to former Buckeye Claudia Kepler. She is doing well and is very happy. She is sitting this season out due to transferring from one WCHA school to another, but she is enjoying being part of the Badger Program. We also got to meet a few of Ohio State's newcomers. Memorizing their names and numbers will be a challenge as there are seven new freshmen and three new transfer students.

Nice meeting you and your wife too. Your lifestyle of travelling to away games is much envied. I did manage to irritate some OSU fans last night, just doing my typical cheering, though my cold is killing my lung capacity. If I don't see you today best wishes and safe travels.

We have found the fans at Badger games to be very friendly and they have even put up with us when we yell. Our visits have been fun because they have been so nice.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Congrats Bucks on coming within a hair of the big upset with your brand new coach, and getting the tie against the #1 team in the country!

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Last couple of years we've always played Wisco real tight at home, but have gotten blasted on the road. I think this tie and last night's (relatively) close loss at LeBahn bodes really well for us this season.
