Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Nice meeting you and your wife too. Your lifestyle of travelling to away games is much envied. I did manage to irritate some OSU fans last night, just doing my typical cheering, though my cold is killing my lung capacity. If I don't see you today best wishes and safe travels.

Haha, it's not exactly a lifestyle! We pick one or two road trips a season to the closest places and try to get to those. Wisconsin is actually the closest road trip in the league for us Buckeye fans. Hope you are feeling better soon regarding that cold.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

We have found the fans at Badger games to be very friendly and they have even put up with us when we yell. Our visits have been fun because they have been so nice.

They are very nice fans, and I need to give a shoutout to the Wisconsin Women's Hockey Parents, who graciously welcomed us to their tailgate and fed us before today's game! We also were left some extra tickets (may have been the same folks who gave us their tickets yesterday). We had an amazing time this weekend.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Congrats Bucks on coming within a hair of the big upset with your brand new coach, and getting the tie against the #1 team in the country!

Today's game was very encouraging and I found out talking to some folks that in fact we have only had Coach Nadine here for around a week. Coach Jessica Koizumi has been with the girls since she was hired, but Nadine Muzerall just started this week. Someone on here alluded to that and indicated they had seen her somewhere else last weekend, and that was probably correct. So, considering we have only had our head coach for less than a week and just went toe-to-toe with the best team in the country, I am very encouraged by that. This team is going to be fun to watch. I am going to enjoy watching the growth this season.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

Last couple of years we've always played Wisco real tight at home, but have gotten blasted on the road. I think this tie and last night's (relatively) close loss at LeBahn bodes really well for us this season.

Totally agree Buckeye22. I am stoked for the rest of the season. I know the girls are chomping at the bit to get back on the ice and get to work for next weekend's games. It was a tough ending today, leading for a good chunk of this game, then having Wisconsin score a power play goal to tie it with less than two minutes to go in the game. The girls were resilient though, and held the Badgers scoreless in the OT period to earn a point.

Re: Ohio State Buckeyes 2016-2017

The rumor I heard about Muzerall is that there were some visa issues. Nothing wrong, just that everything happened very quickly and it took time to figure it out.

I was not 100% sure what was going on with Coach Nadine initlally so I didn't say anything on here, but looking back, I think you are probably correct ... visa issues.

This.

Perseverance in the face of adversity is a great asset. Moving forward it will serve us well.

Totally agree. I am not going to make any bold predictions about how many games this group will win, but I think this group will play hard, they will play through adversity, and they will be a tough out in this league.

Next up for the Buckeyes is a trip to Bemidji to take on the Beavers, who just split with #2-ranked Minnesota at home. The Gophers took Friday's game 3-1, but the Beavers came back to win Saturday's game 2-0 behind the 31-save shutout performance of senior goaltender Brittni Mowat. The Buckeyes will need to bring the same intensity they showed Saturday in their tie against Wisconsin if they want to pick up some points this weekend. The WCHA schedule-makers didn't do the Buckeyes any favors with road trips to Wisconsin and Bemidji before coming home to face 2nd-ranked Minnesota on 10/21 - 10/22.

Always have thought that OSU was a sleeping giant with their resources. They are not in a traditional hockey area which hurts them as most of the Minny girls look at local schools first and Canadien players need a full ride to show up in Columbus. Hopefully they get someone in admin that understands hockey and let's coach Muzzerall finish what JP was starting. They have lost a few commits including 2 that were picked off by UMD including a player from the U18 team. Bemidji and UMD are on the upswing with some good players coming in along with the traditional powers how hard is it going to be to even get in the top 3 every few years? Recruiting to Minnesota is a whole different world than recruiting to Columbus, will be hard stockpile talent.

I would expect that players from Canada need full rides to play in Minnesota, Wisconsin or ND for that matter because of distance. It's a long from Toronto to Madison. Ohio may become the new favorite. On players going elsewhere, what we don't know is if there was much of a fight to keep them to their commitments. Different coaches look for different skills or makeup for their team. Time will tell.

Don't think I would get too carried away with results from past weekend…….7 shots the entire game won't win many games. Sauve has been the story for the past two weekends. Defence is very solid, Ohio will need to score by committee this year. I think it is a stretch to give JP credit for recruiting, she had to fill a roster with graduation and transfers. Hopefully Muzzerall brings stability and top end recruits will want to play in Columbus.

Sauve will be the story all year. The roster is very young and will have growing pains and will need to rely on the goalie a lot. Defence is led by a freshman, mind you, she is outstanding. Two of the other top 4 defence are sophomores. Up front, a freshman was first line center with a sophomore on the wing. Keeping the games respectable against Wisconsin with such a young lineup bodes well for the future.

Only 1 JP recruit played top 6 and non of the transfers have made much of an impact so far. I believe most of next years top recruits committed under Handrahan and not JP. Hopefully Muzzerall can retain the top commits and bring in a few more. Depth will be the biggest issue this year.

I agree. Getting outshot 85-22 doesn't bode well. With BSU, UM & UMD all next it will be a nice measuring stick to see where they stand. It will be interesting to see how they shake out against BSU. They are the target. I do agree they are a sleeping giant, even though their rink apparently is a dump.

Considering our head coach only had a week with our team, I am pretty sure the shots on goal deficiency is getting addressed. As for the OSU Ice Rink, they gave it a new paint job and put up some new banners, but it's still the OSU Ice Rink, so you're not going to get an argument from me regarding that. I have been screaming for a new hockey-only facility for years.

Hey did you notice they hung up real American and Canadian flags? No more vinyl banners with flags painted on. We're moving up in the world.

Looks like they are going with 2 coaches for this season.

It's hockey. There's always good people out there. They just need to advertise that they're looking to hire another assistant and a hockey operations person and they'll get plenty of good quality applicants. Going with just the two coaches is a dumb decision, if that's what they've really decided to do. On the recruiting end of it alone it means they are working short-handed all year compared to every other program. Not smart at all.

Understand that another coach has been hired and currently going through the paperwork process. I can't see a two-person system working or making sense. This is not how you want to bring in the new era.
