Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

I noticed former, future Puck Buck and now Nittany Lion Matt Skoff gave up six goals before being pulled last night. Also noticed that future, former Puck Buck and now Miami Red Hawk Chris Joyaux was a -3 in the +/- category last night. :p

Joyaux actually scored a goal in last nights game according to the score sheet, and was a -1 for the game.
He's a minus 3 for the season with 4 games played.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

4-3 win for the Buckeyes. A split on the road is not a bad thing as long as you don't give up a split at home. Seems like the defense went limp in the 3rd giving up those 3 goals allowing ND back in the game.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Sounds like a great effort through two periods and any win on the road is a good win.Splitting on the road against a very good team is also a good thing. I can see once this team grows up they can be pretty good but they are also going to take some lumps along the way. 3 goals in 4 games for Dzingle pretty good start to your college career. Off to see Sparty

I think you guys have picked up a pretty smart coach.

I've seen OSU play 4 games now with Osiecki behind the bench, and I like his approach. He's not afraid to have his team attack very aggressively and they stayed within their game plan most of both nights. Notre Dame played particularly good third periods both nights and all we got out of it was a split. OSUs consistent approach Saturday built a lead that was big enough.

Osiecki seems to be willing to mold his game plan to fit his opponent and that is a different attitude than most coaches possess. I'm not one who usually says that it takes a while to see how good a coach can be once he "gets his guys" but with your coach there's merit in a patient attitude. If he is successful in recruiting the right types of players, this guy will be a d amn good head coach.

I don't know how good OSU will end up this season, but if this weekend was any indication this is a hard team to beat. Jackson told Osiecki that his team reminded him of Notre Dame last season and that they'll be a lot of fun to coach. My guess is they'll b e a lot of fun for OSU fans to watch.

Good luck the rest of the way.

I agree it took me 1 period of hockey last year to get excited about OZ, and with a young team this year its going to take sometime to gel and for the freshman to grow. This weekend i think we saw a little growth blowing a 2 goal lead on friday night by taking dumb penalties(although upperclassmen took them) and losing in the 3rd. I didnt see the game last night but getting that 4-0 and hanging on and gettting a split on the road against a very good team is alot to build on. This team will take lumps early with the schedule having them play some very good teams up untill christmas.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

You keep speaking Canadian and the coach will run you off.:D

Now that there is funny. I don't think the Coach has run anyone off this team yet.

The team is fun to watch this year so far. They have alot of energy and can put the puck in the net.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

I think the only impediments in their way from really taking off is the need to control the puck and smart passing and not taking stupid penalties. I think as the season progresses they will continue to improve where improvement is needed.

Great post IrishHockeyFan. This is one Buckeye Hockey fan who agrees that we have a great coach in place, and I am willing to be patient with the process. I am definitely happy to get a split on the road against a great team like yours. As others have alluded to, there will be ups and downs, but I really like the direction we are headed in.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

After watching the last 2 games on the net and comcast I have a couple of observations about the young Buckeyes. The freshmen are an exciting group. They seem to be a good first step in what Coach Osiecki is trying to bring to your program. In stretches they I thought they show a lot of potential but with so many first year players the expected mistakes and inconsistencies of a young team have cost them. The ND game Saturday was a very good win but if not for Heeter coming up big all game long it easily could have gone the other way. As it was the team faded in front of him the last ten minutes and ND was almost able to finish off the comeback. As far as freshmen, McCormick, Dzingel and Johnson stood out as they created a lot of the offense and energy on the ice. Last night again the inconsistency was there, at times Sparty kept the pressure on and had way too many quality chances. Penalties seem to zap some strength from the team both games (what is up with the Too Many Men penalties?) and even though MSU had more penalties it sure didn't seem that way watching the game.

One can see the potential with the freshman class. Sophmores Crane, Statchuk, and Lippencott provide energy and toughness on the puck. The upper classmen are going to have to score, it can't be only Dries, lead, Duddy and Schneider seem to be perfect captains for a young team, and keep the puck out of the net, Heeter looks like he is going to be every bit as good as was last year.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Last night was pretty tough for the Bucks, its hard to get upset at them because of the youth on this team. One thing they really have to get cleaned up is the passes to no one along the boards in there own zone. that cost them the 2nd goal and the 3rd goal was scored off a turnover at center ice. Cal played very welll i thought last night and has looked very good in each of his starts(that 2nd game was not on him IMO). Hopefully tonight they can get the split you want on the road.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

One can have a good season by splitting on the road PROVIDING you get the sweeps at home. Starting next weekend it's time for the guys to step up and start doing that. Good job tonight team keeping the penalties to a minimum. :)

Exactly! Getting 4 points a weekend at home and splits on the road makes for a great season. The team made great strides from last night to tonight. Continue to get better and take care of home ice next weekend. I hope the young guys dont get to frustrated playing against alasks's defensive style of play and just wait them out the chances will come.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Just looked at the CCHA's website and we're tied for first place and Michigan's in last. You don't see THAT too often. Too bad it's not March! LOL!

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Thursday game was alittle hard on the eyes. It seemed like half of the players didn't get off the bus to show up. I don't know if it was the Canada or USA players!!! LOL.

Friday , was the new and improved Buckeyes. It was back to normal with very few in the sin bin and scoring power. GO BUCKS GO.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

This team obviously has potential. I was at the Saturday game in East Lansing and there were moments of really good play. Still too many turnovers though but I think that happens with a younger team. I've been impressed by the play of Dzingle so far this year and I think we have a decent core of young talent. Hopefully these guys don't peak as freshman like so many players in the past have (hopefully coach Oz will develop their talent vs. what we saw before... )

Splits on the road especially at ND and MSU are ok in my book. Would be nice to get points in both games this coming week at home.

I won't make any smart remarks since I made the same mistake earlier in the week by referring to the "Saturday" game. I did make it up for the Friday game.

If you haven't done it yet check the CCHA standings. Lake Superior sits in first and the only team without a point in the standings is located in Oxford.:D That will change, but it might keep some people quiet for a week or two.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Kind of feel weird saying this, Michigan and you aren't really hockey rivals and I hate miami so much so....I really hope you guys beat the living s*** out of them. It was great knowing miami got swept this weekend.
