Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

The shots on goal were heavily in Quinnipiac's favor with them having over twice what we had 36-16 but thanks to Cal Heeter it was quality, not quantity that mattered.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

It wasnt very pretty but with a young team any win is a good win. Each and every win will be earned with this team and i do believe they will get better as the season goes on. Cal was great tonight, the PP was not very good( yes i know they scored both goals) other than the 2 goals not much puck movement. Improvement is the key for this team not just game to game but shift to shift and they got away from that in the 2nd period. Way to many turnovers in that period that left cal all alone more than once. I thought the 3rd was pretty well played 5 on 5. I cant be there tomorrow anyone going to ND next friday?

quick FYI. skoff decommited. has not been announced, but he wanted to come in now and oz said no. so skoff said see ya later. Oz's treatment of his players will his demise. you can't yell at every player, because some will not respond to that style of coaching. the only hope this yr is heeter. d core will struggle again and four guys need to fill the scoring role. good thing they play no one good out of conference.
Hmm, this guys a buzz killer for sure with resentment issues. He and Buckeyefan2009 seem to be riding the same horse.

I'm just saying don't expect much this year. if you noticed the starting line up and pp are littered with freshmen and sophomores. oz is still trying to rebuild. so with all the mistakes from young players and weak D (which was proven last night) heeter will be doing most of the work again. and from what I hear oz is not a back padder but a ball buster

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Well I will give you that estimates for getting this team to serious contention was 2-3 years but it's way too early in the season yet for anything but optimism. I have seen young teams come alive so it's wait and see time. I'd say by early December when we play Miami we'll know if we will be contenders this season or not. As far as ball busting goes the only advice I can give if any of the players can't handle it then don't ever join the military, you can't call home crying from boot camp. lol!

Saturday nights game was hard on the eyes. The first 2 periods were rough. The Bucks put up a good fight but didn't have the energy to come all the way back for the win. The back up goalie played good when Heeter was pulled.

Re: Rude

I'd really like to be disappointed with last night's 4-3 loss, but I actually came away with a good feeling. Of course I wasn't very happy after the first period, and I still don't think the contact to the head penalty was correct (putting it mildly). And I wasn't happy with a certain player's little hissy fit by the Quinnipiac bench that drew a minor penalty that lead to the last of the 4 goals.

The guys never quit and they never got down on themselves. What would we have seen two years ago?

I like what I see from the freshmen - Ryan Dzingel, from Matt Johnson (big and pleasant surprise), Darik Angeli, Max McCormick, and liked Chad Niddery's game last night. Sophomores Chris Crane and Travis Statchuk aren't the same players they were last year. Hope Statchuk can keep that energy all season.

Here's your scoring:
Goals - Seniors 1, Sophomores 1, Freshmen 3
Assists - Juniors 3, Sophomores 1, Freshmen 6

Barring injuries the second half of the this season and the future look pretty good to me.

Re: Rude

The other than penalties deserved or not the aspect that I think hurt us the most was our inability to effectively pass and control the puck. We rarely hit the open man and were constantly turning it over. When in our defensive end we were sending it around the boards a lot to a player from the other team. We were telegraphing our intentions on the passes letting Quinnipiac players easily intercept the puck. Still every game adds to the learning curve and we'll see what next week brings.

Re: Rude

Oh the ups and downs of having a young team. I watched parts of the game on my computer. A loss is a loss but i am encouraged by the way they never quit. Down 4-0 after 1 and being so young they could have packed it in and they didnt, i credit the coaches for some of this because as someone said earlier what would have happened 2 years ago the score may have been 8-0 or something like that. The schedule gets tougher this week with 2 at ND who is a very good team and we know that. I am going to see friday nights game it will be interesting to see what outcomes we get on the road with this young team for the first time.

I actually read this and thought, "I wonder what the over/under is on number of days until he commits to Penn State"...

If you took the under - you are a winner.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

I will be happy with a split or at least two competitive games if we lose both. It's not really reasonable to expect a team as young as ours to sweep a good team like Notre Dame on the road. I think a split would be fantastic. We'll certainly find out what we still need to work on this weekend.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

The game was free tonight on the web and I got to see our score in the first minute but then had to go out for the evening. Any comments or observations on how we looked or why we couldn't get the win?

You could see ND is clearly the better team and with so many freshman on the team you would expect them to make the mistakes that cost them the game, but not tonight it was the upperclassment that took that honor. Duddy and Geding took unnecessary penalites at the same time with the Bucks up 2-1 and gave ND a 5-3 for a full 2 minutes which they took advantage of a freshman(Oddo) in front of the net to tie the game. Then one of the more stupid penalties i have ever seen was taken by Dries he is has a Notre Dame players stick locked in his arm and tuggs on it more than once all of this while they are in the offensive zone 200 feet away from the buckeye net and gets called for holding the stick. Notre Dame didnt score on the PP itself but did score about 2 seconds after it was over Dries never got into the play. HJelle played decent but the 3rd and 4th goals were pretty soft, from my seat i couldnt see if the 3rd goal was tipped over his glove or not but it barley got to the back of the net. Way to many passes to no one again in the defensive zone. Notre Dame dominated the puck much of the night and when ohio state did get some good chances Johnson came up with big stops. The turning point of the game IMO was with the score 2-1 schenider took a nice pass for a breakway and appeared to score on his own rebound but was called for goalie interference, that was maybe the worst call i have ever seen. He was knocked into johnson by the trailing ND player and instead of being up 3-1 the scored stayed at 2-1 and the bucks had to kill off a penalty that had no business being called.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Sounds like the boys better develop some serious mental discipline before coach drills it into them in ways that aren't very pleasant.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

I noticed former, future Puck Buck and now Nittany Lion Matt Skoff gave up six goals before being pulled last night. Also noticed that future, former Puck Buck and now Miami Red Hawk Chris Joyaux was a -3 in the +/- category last night. :p
