Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

IMO, ferris state is a sacrificial lamb. I learned awhile ago to never buy into the ferris hype because they NEVER come through. So I think ohio will sweep this weekend.

I wouldn't discount them. They are more adept at scoring than in the past and their goaltending can shut down just about anyone. Considering that OSU is having trouble scoring, this series looks tougher than it should be.

Michigan obliterated them (6-2, 4-0 back in october) without Jon Merrill. I don't know man, I just never bought ferris. Even when they had good teams.

Gotta go with streaker's take. The Buckeyes need their 'A' game this weekend. There's no time to be tentative; we need to come out flying.

Ferris State History: At the very least, you've got to respect the 2003 club led by Chris Kunitz. They could easily have been a Frozen Four team. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, their draw in the region final was Minnesota, the eventual National Champs. The fact the game was played at Mariucci raised the bar even further. But 2003 Ferris had a lot to offer...

October 29th, 2010 - Ferris State 3 | Michigan 2
January 23rd, 2010 - Ferris State 3 | Michigan 2

There may be other games where Michigan pumped Ferris but they also still beat the Wolverines on national TV stages...

The Bulldogs are 3-1 in their last 4 and 3-1-1 in their last 5 verse Ohio State

First rule of hockey, never take ANY opponent lightly. If Ohio State thought by compairing their record to Bowling Green's they'd have some easy wins they certainly found out that was NOT the case. I'd take Ferris as seriously as if we were playing top teams like Michigan or Notre Dame.

ferris did not beat Michigan in regulation on 10/29/2010, they tied officially and ferris won the shootout. Michigan has never done well in shootouts, but I don't put much stock into the shootouts because they're a gimmick to make the fans at the games happy so they don't leave with a bland feeling of a draw. They have proven to be crucial in the conference standings though so I'm glad Michigan at least won one this season.

The second game you mentioned was in the 2009-10 season when Michigan was in shambles the entire season and then kicked their game into overdrive during March because they had to, and you know the rest of that story.

It's not as much me taking them lightly, as I just don't buy them. I may be the only person in the world who had 0 doubt Michigan would sweep them this season, but that's just me. Side note: Did any of you see when their goalie Motte was pulled? As he was skating off Michigan got the puck and was charging for the open-netter and Motte couldn't make it so he dove and threw his stick to try stop the puck? It was the funniest thing I think I've ever watched in a Michigan hockey game.

Hey, at least you guys aren't playing notre dame on NBC Sports (changed name from Versus) this weekend. I can't wait to hear all the notre dame nut-hugging.....

Well said. No easy teams at any level of hockey. GO BUCKS GO.

If a Notre Dame announcer does too much nut-hugging, do they just quietly transfer him to another Catholic university?

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

I meant big stage as in being ranked #2 in the country, playing in front of a large crowd at home. I had full confidence in Michigan winning the outdoor game, simply because the guys have experience in them and don't (shouldn't at least) have first time jitters unless they're freshman.

I see what you mean about the big stage and it's possible that our guys were a little jittery about a big outdoor game. I mentioned to my wife before we got there that I hoped our lack of experience with the spectacle of an outdoor game didn't play a role. I pointed out that it was our first outdoor game since 2006 whereas Michigan plays an outdoor game almost annually.

In regard to our series this coming weekend, I sincerely hope you are right because we could use the six points. However, the way we are playing right now, nothing is a given.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

It's game day. Let's get them BUCKEYES fired up & hungry for some points this weekend. GO BUCKS GO.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Friday nights game = loss. Due to stupid penalties. Stay out of the box = win. When Farris State took that stupid 5 min Major for elbowing to the head it was the Bucks chance to tie & win the game. Got the 5 X 4 but couldn't score a 5 x 3!!!!!

Saturday night is a MUST win just to keep there head above water. GO BUCKS GO.

Ok, I am approaching meltdown here (similar to the team's meltdown). Five game winless streak = me needing to be talked off the ledge. What the bleep is going on with this team?!? I agree with you THE OHIO STATE, tomorrow night's game now becomes a MUST WIN, period. Enough is enough. This is looking like Groundhog Day from last year ... second half of the season meltdown. This team is not a lock to make the NCAA Tournament. If they continue on this losing streak, they could be on the outside looking in. Someone please get me off the ledge. Thank you in advance! :)

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

The only HOPE now is to get out of this slump A.S.A.P. and get a hot streak going into playoffs. The way the first half of the season looked , I thought the Bucks were going to run away with the CCHA title.

Re: Future Outdoor Games

They are playing with zero confidence right now. We can hope that the 3rd period will bring back some of the confidence they had during the first half of the seasson.

Re: Future Outdoor Games

I thought Ferris looked very beatable last night. If you look at Ferris' scoring they got one on a defensive breakdown and the rest on PP's so that doesn't tell me this team is an offensive powerhouse. They simply took advantage of what we gave them. I thought we were in for it when I saw Wilkins officiating, he has a long track record of not being very easy on us.
If we get back in sync of controlling the puck, crashing the net and hitting the crap out of them (providing we don't get a BS call for a legit hit) then the game is ours.

Wilkins is awful that interference and boarding call were terrible. Ferris is better offensively than they have been in the past but i agree they were very beatable last night. I thought for sure when ohio state had the 5 on 3 the game was as good as tied, but they couldnt get the puck settled down enough to make good passes.

Re: Future Outdoor Games

The guys also have to get their on ice awareness back. After the game I overheard someone comment on a observation that I saw as well. All game long as we would bring the puck up the along the boards as we approached their blue line 3 Ferris players would converge on our guy with the puck and more often than not leaving some of our players coming up the opposite boards uncovered. A quick across ice pass an we have someone with speed & momentum coming in on net unopposed! I can't believe they were oblivious to it time and time again as that is a play which is a staple in Michigan's playbook and they execute it well.
