Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Where in the world did all these scUM and Miami trolls come from?

My 2 cents on the 'rivalries' talk. Michigan is supposedly Ohio STATE's rival in every sport, but the biggest rivalry is in football. As for me, as a long time hockey fan and season ticket holder I definitely hate Miami more. At least Michigan has actually WON a thing or two.

How dare you criticize hockey's new dynasty!;) Michigan is the long term rivalry. For the next two years, Miami of Ohio is the most important. I want nothing better than to put little sister's throat firmly back beneath our boot before the CCHA dissolves. Then we'll go off to the BTHC, and they'll go back to being utterly irrelevant.

Hope you guys can schedule them on the OOC when we all part ways in 2013-14. Just like I hope Michigan can get some games with western, that series has quietly become really heated since last season.

I cannot stand listening to the blasi nut-hugging that goes on during games by the commentators.

For sure! I saw Red & the boys come back to the Renaissance Center after the loss to Western during the Finals and you could see the veins standing out on his temples from 100 feet away, NOT a happy man!

Not a good game at all, but I had a worry that western would come out hard because of this game...

Seeing how the two CCHA Tournament finalists (miami and western) were one-and-done in the NCAAs, and the two teams (Michigan & ND) who played in third place game went to the Frozen Four, it really doesn't bother me as much as it did that night of the semis loss. Still proud that Michigan got another CCHA banner and the trophy got a stay in Ann Arbor though :)

One thing that impressed me about Western that weekend was how their fans & students were there in force and you can tell their team was riding on it. They were quite vocal! I'm sorry to say Ohio State has not had that kind of fan support but we're hopeful if Coach Osiecki keeps the team at the level they're now at and not just this season but every season then perhaps the fans will come. Although I would look at them as fair weather fans, not one of the faithful few like myself and others who post here.

My favorite win over Miami was at the Super 6 when we won the CCHA tournament. Ohio State battled back and it went to overtime. We won the ensuing faceoff and a quick pass to J.B. Bittner breaking up ice for the shot & winning goal advancing us to the title game against Michigan. I don't think half a dozen ticks came off the clock and it was stunned silence where all the Miami fans were sitting.

Funniest thing is that their board has wholly adopted Brady Hoke's whole "Ohio" thing. Funnier thing is that we don't take it as an insult. We know we ARE OHIO. Not Ohio U, but rather the state of Ohio and its flagship university.

Poor, poor little sister. They want to be a Big Ten university soooo, soooo bad. After Jump Around, "Miami Man," all those Michigan hockey cheers and now "Ohio" what'll they steal next. Might I suggest, Script of Ohio.

Actually we are trying to develop a way to impose 'Miami' into the 'O-H!' cheer. So far we have, M-I! AM-EE! Still some quirks to work out but we are pretty proud of the said cheer at this point.

M-U! OF-O!

Keep at it, boys. I'm sure that there is an untapped load of great traditions at Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, IU and Purdue just waiting to be "adopted.":) Just stay away from the Texas A&M stuff; it's downright creepy.

Agreed. I wish I could be offended by Hoke's attempt at disrespect; strong emotions enhance the rivalvry. But there's just nothing about it that generates a reaction. The only thing I can come up with is that the endless repetition is mildly irritating. It's the same feeling one gets when a kindergartner endlessly repeats the same knock-knock joke.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

So who's going to Pittsburgh to see the boys play after Christmas?

I really wanted to make that road trip because Mrs 86 is a Pens fan and I joked with her that it might be her best chance to see a game at Consol Energy Center but the other guys in my dept at work beat me to the punch and are off that day, so I can't get it off (sigh)! I would loved to have made the road trip to support these guys. I will be making a road trip to see this team, though. In addition to being a Pens fan, Mrs 86 is also a BG grad and I promised her we would go to the 1/7/12 game at BGSU. Mrs 86 thinks BG can pull off the upset. I haven't talked much trash to her because I don't want to burst her bubble ... trying to be a good husband on that (heh heh heh).

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Definitely thinking about going. Would be great to get to see them in Pitt again, but this time in the new place.

I actually think it makes them sound un-educated. Like there already IS an Ohio university, and it's not us so.... it really sounds as if they don't realize there are two different schools.

I think that he thinks he's trying to denigrate us by inferring the whole MAC school thing. My take is that we ARE Ohio in the larger sense: the state of Ohio's statewide, flagship university with a national reputation. As far as I'm concerned, he's calling us what we are.

If he was as clever as he thinks he is he would truly insult us by calling us OU.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Not really disagreeing with BuckeyeHockey, but I'm with Sterling: Cleverness is the issue. Hoke thinks he's being clever, but fails.

This is splitting hairs, but IMHO the opposite word for clever is lame -- as opposed to uneducated.

There's no huge mystery here. Hoke is trying to toss some red meat to the rabid dog portion of his fan base. At the same time, he doesn't want to give the Buckeyes any more bulletin board material than he absolutely has too. But since the ploy is neither offensive or funny, his attempt to walk the tightrope is a fail.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

You know you won by a hair and wouldn't have had a chance if our program didn't crash the way it did but hey, a wins a win right? I would be willing to put a little money down that OSU's win streak over Michgan resumes next fall. :p:D
