Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Getting a split doesn't ruin my entire weekend. A little unusual that both visiting teams won.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

The Miami fans may think the officiating gave us the game tonight but fairs fair since they were handed it last night!

Of course they do. You really didn't think they'd take the loss like men. Hell, when they won Friday night, Miami of Ohio fans were more obsessed with saying that Ohio State was overrated to the point that it almost looked like denigrating their own team's accomplishment of beating the #4 team on the road and snapping a 9 game win streak. Take away from your own team's accomplishment before giving Ohio State an ounce of credit. That, my friends, is the Miami of Ohio way.

Pretty sure that is the standard sports fan chant after defeating a more highly-ranked opponent. Miami fans probably picked it up directly from Ohio State fans who have enjoyed chanting it over the past few years whenever OSU has pulled off an "upset" of the always-more-highly-ranked Miami team. Now that the tables have turned, it is our right as sports fans (who, as a rule, have no duty to actually think through the implications of chants) to pull that one out of the bag. Or maybe we're just in denial about the fact that your team is decent this year :p

As a Columbus native, I get a special thrill out of defeating Ohio State, but I'll admit that it will be more meaningful when you have a consistently good team and a solid home atmosphere. Looks like you're already establishing #1 and I'm sure #2 will follow after a few solid seasons. Here's hoping you build and maintain a championship-caliber program... and that you then lose to Miami :D

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

There was no overratted chant. I may have yelled it once or twice. :D But I don't see how that is "denigrating their own team's accomplishment." I think most Buckeye and Miami of Ohio fans could agree that the officiating led to some goals on both sides. It's not even like it was a poorly officiated series.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

How was the attendance at your arena on Friday night? The general consensus around the state of Michigan is that ohio fans could care less about hockey since they have been a doormat for a long time. But since you guys have the lead in the standings right now, I'm curious to see if that brings in your fans.

If you guys have a FOR REAL team, then you won't be one-hit wonders like in 2003-04, and you will be good next season. I can promise you that your team will not come into Yost next year and win :p, but I look forward to developing a rivalry on the ice. Michigan vs state will always be the #1 rivalry in hockey to us Wolverines, but I want some rivals for when we all leave the CCHA and go to the B1G. That said, Michigan is gonna get the sweep in January. :D Go Blue!

The crowd was like 4400 or so on friday night. Your forgetting that in 05 they finished 2nd in the regular season and 2nd in the tournament both to michigan plus made the NCAA's for 3 straight years from 03-05 so they were not one year wonders as you said they were. Your dreaming if you think Michigan sweeps that series next month. See you in a month's time.

*You're

By one-hit wonders, I meant by actually winning a championship (regular season, tournament or national championship). And that's great, you made the NCAA's three straight years. How did those appearances work out again? Making it doesn't mean anything unless you win it or win the regional and have a strong showing in the Frozen Four, at least to me that is.

I'm looking forward to January. Tough schedule ahead for Michigan with #3 BC at JLA in two weeks and either tech or state the next day in the GLI. I already see a big jump in improvement. Red seems pretty confident in them after that OT win at alaska, he said so on his radio show that Michigan is on the verge of getting to where they want to/should be. And it showed on Friday and Saturday going 1-0-1 against the arch rivals.

You are correct once you get in you have to do something while you are there they lost 3 one goal games. I thought they were on to something good after the 05 season but they never got better. This team under this staff wil not go away I can promise you that. The series next month will be great that i can also promise you!

I'll give credit to coach O down there. He turned things around quite quickly for this being his second year. Once the CCHA breaks up and we all go to the Big Ten, I'm thinking this will be Michigan's #3 rival if ohio can stay competitive. That rivalry with state will never be eclipsed, so much hate in that game.

I have a question, who is a bigger hockey rival to you guys? Michigan or miami?

Michigan is the bigger rivarly for me but i for now untill the BIG starts i would have to say Miami is the biggers rival for the team because of In-state.
I am excited for the new conference to start cant wait untill I can see Wisconsin and Minnesota every year in columbs. Also getting to travel to each building even though i have been to Minnesota's arena, I have not been in Wisconsin's arena.

A LOT of unfinished business between Michigan and minnesota.

The first team in the B1G to lose to penn state gets the official jackas$ banner in their arena.

That's a tough one. Most fans here have a dislike for Michigan in general because it carries over from football. Miami, like the Spartans for you is an in-state and conference rival and there's no love lost there either and the perception is that as Miami became a national title contender over recent years their arrogance grew with it. Right now for me I'd say it's even between the two but once Miami is no longer a conference foe that might fade away which is a shame as you guys will still play and hate the Spartans so you get to keep your primairy rival in hockey. Nothing wrong to me if you have us as the guys to hate after Sparty. On a final note it's amusing that the Blue Jacket fans try to project the Michigan-OSU football attitude over onto the Jackets/Red Wings when the Jackets in reality aren't even a blip on the Red Wings radar. GO WINGS!

Michigan is definitely the bigger, and more long term, rivalry in my eyes. I think it's a much healthier rivalry than that with our in-state little sister. For me (and quite frankly most of the alumni I know) there's hate there, but it's a healthy hate grounded by in conference ties, history and respect. I know that our t-shirt alumni can take the hate thing to ridiculous degrees, but I don't think that's the norm among alumni.

The Miami of Ohio thing was rather unique and really only applied to the hard core hockey fans. Their rise to national prominence coincided almost directly with our program going into the crapper for the remainder of the decade. Combine that with it being the only thing that Miami could latch onto that they had over us, and they've been more than annoying the last six years. Beyond that, however, they're essentially Bowling Green with better clothing. Nothing to concern ourselves with over the long haul.

And a better Accountancy program! Hopefully we don't fall off the map in the next decade :o Ohio State and Miami are nice in-state rivals and it will probably continue as long as long as big brother remains on the schedule ;)

Isn't there an old saying about the log in your own eye....;)

Last post from me, can't wait for February gents!

Kind of feel weird saying this, Michigan and you aren't really hockey rivals and I hate miami so much so....I really hope you guys beat the living s*** out of them. It was great knowing miami got swept this weekend.

Funny, seems that Michigan doesn't really consider you to be the bigger rival. Little ol' Miami however continues to frustrate Michigan fans year after year.

See you in February, but I'm sure you won't be worried about us, because "we're not a big threat"

Love and Honor

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

All in fun, remember? That's what a rivalry is but you guys ought to see how it is in my house! Myself an Ohio State Alum, son a Miami alum and my wife's from Michigan so how about a little pity on dad stuck in the middle here.
