Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Ohio State is now #1 in the pairwise rankings! I've watched the team since their inception but does anyone out there with a better memory than me recall if we ever held that ranking before?

Not to my knowledge they have never been no.1 in the pairwise. The highest i think i have ever seen them was a top 10 ranking back in 05 or so.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Last nights game wasn't exactly pretty, but good teams win games like that so kudos to the boys. Big big answer goal from Oddo right after LSSU scored. Heeter was once again calm, cool and collected in net- seems the team is thriving on that. Nice little cushion we've made for ourselves over the typical conference heavyweights. Big series next weekend of course against of Ohio.

I remember being ranked 1 in the polls once early in the season but not PWR. I think it was 2005 maybe?

I think that was 2005-2006 they were no.3 to start the season and moved up to no.2 after a spilt at Colorado College but they never made it to no.1 to my knowledge.

I'll preface this by saying I know this is ancient history. But I'm reasonably sure the Buckeyes held the #1 ranking for a short while in the early '80s. That would have been on Jerry Welsh's watch, during the Pooley years. I want to say it was some time during the span of 1982-1984. If someone has a better command of the history, do tell.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

As far as next weekend goes Miami is not the team they were last year (neither are we :)) I think we'll do well next weekend but how great would it be to keep the sweep streak going especially if we can take one from Miami at Goggin? :D

It's a shame we aren't playing our best hockey right now, or this would defeintley be the biggest regular season tOSU/Miami series in my (brief) time as a fan, but still very excited for the games this weekend, driving all over Ohio/Indiana not so much, but always woth it.

We had a bit of a relapse against Northern into our early season form, taking an obscene ammount of ill advised penalties, something which we had drasticlly cut down on during our 8 game run in November. So who knows which Miami team will come out Friday in Columbus. Goals have been at a premium all year, and given how Heeter is playing, not really expecting that to change for this weekend.

Would be great to see a big crowd at tSchott Friday night, hopefully Miami fans in the area do their part.

He's a bandwagon Wings fan.

I've been meaning to say, it's been a nice, long bandwagon ride to be on for the last 25 years or so.

I didn't get on the bandwagon until I was 2 years old, unacceptable that they missed the post-season when I was 1.

Disclaimer: Born and raised in Michigan, MUnRPI is just a hater :)

Regarding the crowd Friday night, it would be nice to get a decent crowd. I think the biggest crowd we have had was the 3,200 and change for last Friday's LSSU game. The university does next to nothing to market this program and they get almost no coverage by the local media. It's unfathomable. The way this team is playing, coupled with the fact that tickets are only $11 (among the cheapest in the league) they should be hitting five figures in attendance right now. It's really a shame because they deserve better. Good luck this weekend, but not too much (haha)! Let's have a good series and no injuries, huh?

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

i know myself and a good amount of the OSU women's club team (of which my girlfriend is a part of) will be in attendance for the game this friday. we are there most every game though so the 20-30 won't be in addition to the lackluster crowds they have had thus far. my ex is a redhawk so i have seen way too many miami wins in the past 4 years, but if there is a year we can make a statement.. it is this one. i will be telling anyone and everyone i know to come and hopefully you guys do the same.

it is exciting to see the buckeyes playing this well and for a brief second, with help from basketball, it takes away the sting of the football mess.

IO!
Agreed we need to get attendance up and even word of mouth helps. I don't get to campus during the week very often, does anybody know if The Lantern has been doing anything to try and get student attendance up?

Pgb, I was at tOSU then and if I am not mistaken, it was probably the 1983-84 season. Unfortunately, only eight teams were selected for the NCAA Tournament then. Michigan State won the CCHA Tournament and got the automatic bid. Ironically, Bowling Green, who we defeated in OT in the CCHA Tournament Consolation game, got a bid and went on to win their only National Title in hockey that season. Unfortunately, I cannot find any information on record or final ranking that season, but I would have to guess we were ranked #1 at some point that season.

ESPN was talking about the Hockey Buckeyes today! Who would have ever thought even for a brief instant that King Football and basketball took a back seat to the hockey team!:D

ESPN is talking about our hockey team but the local media in Columbus is not. Go figure! Actually, and I don't know about all the channels in Columbus, but Channel 10 (WBNS ... CBS tv affiliate in Columbus) actually had highlights of one of the Lake Superior State games. It slips my mind whether it was Friday or Saturday, but one of those nights they were showing highlights of the game. @howfirmthyfriendship, good for you and your fellow students! The home crowds may be sparse, but one of the highlights of getting to some of the home games is seeing you and your fellow students in the 'OSU Knucklebucks' section. I love seeing what you will spell out with your t-shirts! Last Saturday's honoree was Curtis Gedig. For those who didn't make it to the game, the students in the front row spelled out GEDIGGY WIT IT. I thought it was very creative.

The Bucks are on a roll. I hope the second half goes as good as the first half has been. GO BUCKEYES GO.

Right! Some teams peak early and drop off. The guys have been very consistent lately and Coach Osiecki is always pushing for improvement in all the little things that make the difference between a good team and a great one. Time will tell but I couldn't be happier with how the season has gone so far.

They were? In what context? Was it ESPNU?
