Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

ESPN is talking about our hockey team but the local media in Columbus is not. Go figure! Actually, and I don't know about all the channels in Columbus, but Channel 10 (WBNS ... CBS tv affiliate in Columbus) actually had highlights of one of the Lake Superior State games. It slips my mind whether it was Friday or Saturday, but one of those nights they were showing highlights of the game. @howfirmthyfriendship, good for you and your fellow students! The home crowds may be sparse, but one of the highlights of getting to some of the home games is seeing you and your fellow students in the 'OSU Knucklebucks' section. I love seeing what you will spell out with your t-shirts! Last Saturday's honoree was Curtis Gedig. For those who didn't make it to the game, the students in the front row spelled out GEDIGGY WIT IT. I thought it was very creative.

Also, it was the Fri night game on Ch. 10. Sat night didn't even get a score mention but the show was rushed due to SEC champ game going late.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

I just saw on the team's Facebook page a wall posting about Chuck Hobaica having passed away. Chuck was the goalie on Ohio State's first official team in the 1963-1964 season.

Just saw that OSU dropped tonight's game against Miami 5-3. Anyone who was there have any opinions on what happened? Sounds like it was a rough night for the boys. Hope this isn't the start of a bad streak. We need to return the favor tomorrow night in Oxford.

Weird game full of weird bounces. OSU got an empty net goal off a fluke bounce and then Miami got one off of the OSU defender. No one really took control of the game but Miami had more shots and more time in the offensive zone.

We saw things tonight that we havent seen in pretty much the whole season. Of the 5 miami goals i think 4 game directly off turnovers either in the defenisve zone or neurtal zone. I am one to give credit where it is due and miami deserves alot of credit tonight. They came in with a plan that no one to my knowldege has tried and that was pressure on the puck no matter where on the ice it was and that caused most of the turnovers. Miami did alot of things right and it started from the drop of the first puck tonight. I know you could here in Rowlik's voice on the raido that the coaches were very disappointed in the guys tonight. It wouldnt surprise me if they went and practiced after the game(im sure they didnt) just because he wants to see that compete level up and tonight it wasnt.

The win streak is over as are finals so after tomorrow they have a little time off but how will they go into that time off? With a 2 game losing streak and losing both games to a in-state rival or with a split of the weekend and getting back to playing hockey like we have seen through out the last month and a half. I know one thing the coaching staff will not stand for anything less than what they expect and if you dont give it you will sit. Now lets hope they can get after it tomorrow night and get that split.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

Thought the officiating was poor. Miami scored on a turnover that should have been a tripping call on Miami and OSU had a goal improperly disallowed by the ref who said it was because it deflected off of him. I must have missed that one in the rules that play stops when the puck touches an official. It seemed when the ref told that to Coach, Coach said "So what?" Boy, he looked pis*ed. Other than that I thought Miami did a better job controling the puck tonight. Was confused when we had Heeter pulled that why when down by 2 and time running out you send the puck down low on the boards over and over where it gets tied up instead of just raining it on net?

I agree that should have been a tripping call that led to miami's shorthanded goal in the 2nd period. I heard coach talk about that disallowed goal and he said the ref told them it hit his facemask and that kills the play. I said the same thing i thought the ref was part of the play. you dont kill the play when it hits him anywhere else on the ice.

Exactly, but it is what It is and the boys will just have to step it up and take one from Miami on their home ice tonight.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

I found the rule the ref used to disallow our goal. Quote: "If the puck hits an official and goes directly into the net". The problem with how this rule was applied is the puck did not go "directly" into the net, after deflecting off the ref it struck the goaltender and went in off of him thereby negating the directly clause of the rule. Plus there is no "direct" route for the puck to take when the deflection happened along the boards behind the net. Sometimes it feels like Piotrowski is still on the ice smacking us down.

What a Hard fought victory for the Buckeyes tonight. Twice coming back from trialing by 1 goal to win in OT.

Re: Ohio state " buckeyes " 2011 / 2012 season.

The Miami fans may think the officiating gave us the game tonight but fairs fair since they were handed it last night!

We talked to Sergott about the non-goal before the game tonight. As he explained it, if the puck hits the ref and is directed to the net, regardless of if it hits a player or not, the play is dead. I agree the rule doesn't seem to read that way but he was pretty adamant. Not sure if it came up previously, but he said the puck hit the to other ref's visor and bounced forward, which would be the "direct" route from behind the net into it. /shrug

It doesn't seem to read how it was interperted but that's the breaks. Tonight the calls went our way much to the Miami fan's disappointment but I prefer to have a game where calls good or bad aren't the deciding factor. See you guys in February!

The only thing wrong with that is it didnt go directly into the net it hit the goalie on the shoulder and bounced in so it did not go directly in off the visor.

Huuuge bounceback win tonight! Love the way this team answers when facing a challenge or deficit.
