Ohio State 2024-25 Domination of the Portal Queen!

Apparently the new arena isn't dead. OSU's president comments on it in an interview.

Taken from the article...

"Well, we’re going to have to go through our process, Carter said. “We have been exploring it. We know we have a need for it, particularly for our women’s program, which is, you know, one of the top in the country. I mean, two national championships out of last four years. They deserve a ice hockey rink. I’m not here. I didn’t make a big, splashy announcement, but I’m committed, along with Ross, to making sure that we’re going to have an arena for our two great sports programs. I’m excited about the future there.”

What process? Waiting for a donor to step up with a big investment?

For on ice performance in a niche of a niche sport with basically non-paying fans? Maybe it will happen. But it might be as likely that other things that are mentioned in the article, like the football stadium upgrades, will be more of a priority. Or dormitories with mold and mushroom problems... They are the yuckeyes after all.

I'm not disappointed but I am very surprised we're still #2 in the rankings after last weekends performance.

The poll doesn't make sense the week. It's like some teams got a mulligan on their performance on the ice. St. Cloud moves up with split against Gophers but Gophers don't move down? Quinnipiac tie with a closely ranked opponent and losing to higher ranked opponent got them dropped two places but Ohio State's results against unranked team has no affect on placing?

I can't argue, I feel you're spot on.

It probably came down to the fact that the Buckeyes are the only team to have a win against the Badgers. Who at this point are a runaway leader at #1. Otherwise there’s not much to separate Numbers 2, 3 & 4. That’s as a good tiebreaker as any when the resumes are this close.

Other tiebreakers are possible, of course. And there’s nothing wrong with arguing that another factor should be given more weight. It’s all just harmless parlor conversation.

Of the many things I’m thankful for this Thanksgiving, one of them is that the polls don’t control NCAA Hockey Team Selections or Pairings.

I think the pairwise is more like this to your point about the poll.
1Wisconsin
2Minnesota
3Ohio State
4Minnesota Duluth
5Colgate
6Boston University
7Boston College
8St. Cloud State
9Northeastern
10Quinnipiac
11Clarkson
12Penn State
13Cornell
14Connecticut
15St. Lawrence

Yup. Obviously the Pairwise numbers will be volatile until we get much closer to the end of the regular season. But at least it closely reflects the actual selection & seeding criteria. It gives us a snapshot of how things are at one moment in time.

And it should give teams some guidance as to what it will take to move up the list.

In contrast, if the poll voters go rouge in any given week, it really changes nothing. Teams aren’t really being “cheated” out of anything if they’re listed a slot or two lower than they “should” be.

Wisconsin dominated this one from start to finish and defeated Ohio State earlier tonight 6-0. Lacey Eden scored early in the first period to make the score 1-0. Lacey's goal turned out to be the game-winner as the Buckeyes could not get one past Ava McNaughton in this game. The Badgers would get two more goals in the opening frame from Cassie Hall and Maggie Scannell to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. Wisconsin added two more goals in the second period from Sarah Wozniewicz and Laila Edwards to take a 5-0 lead into the second and final intermission. Lacey Eden would get her second goal in the third period to make the final score 6-0 in this one. The Badgers doubled the Buckeyes in shots on goal, winning that battle 36-18. Badger netminder Ava McNaughton stopped all 18 shots she faced in the win. Amanda Thiele and Hailey MacLeod combined to stop 30 of the 36 shots they faced in the loss. The teams will wrap up this series with an outdoor game Saturday at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Game time is set for 5:30 pm EST.

To say that game was ugly was an understatement, if I wanted ugly I'd just look in the mirror!
Seriously though, WAY too much rust and our D was out of position giving the Badgers goals a mite could make and our shot placement was horrendous.
All I can say is let's hope the rust is gone and motivation is high for Saturday's game and we'll earn redemption and dignity back.

Nadine was not looking very happy on the bench. Saturday will be a whole different environment, so maybe the combination will turn the Buckeyes around. If not the title of this thread might need to be modified.

She was looking like she was auditioning for a post coaching career jig LOL. Maybe her and the hubby had a hot date planned for after the game and she didn't have time to change her clothes. Even MJ was more chatty than usual in the post game handshake with her. It kind of reminded me of the Lloyd Braun episode on Seinfeld. It was "The Gum" episode, one of my all time favorites.

How could she with Timothy sitting behind her? She knows where he sits. LOL

Yeah and there was a lot of glass banging going on as well last night. Of course her team could have shut me up but it was not to be.

I hate to console you, but 2 pucks did get behind Ava but did not cross the line. I wonder if that first chance goes in how different the game would have been.

The only differenc it would have made is for our girls to be slightly less gut punched if they could have at least avoided the shutout. The Badgers player their A game and we didn't show up pretty much sums it up. Hopefully we bounce back Saturday. I'll be in Ann Arbor Sunday for our mens game.

Heck of a game and win. The Badgers are so loaded this season you have to work your a** off for a win. Some say a shootout isn't a win but a win's a win. I think despite getting out butts kicked Thursday I feel we'll probably keep our #2 ranking.
