Ohio State 2024-25 Domination of the Portal Queen!

I can't speak for other school but Ohio State's athletic department has a very deep system of checks and oversights for all their coaches in every sport. There is no way these days a coach can bend or break the rules and not be caught, we're NOT Michigan.
But the eligible players can reach out to schools they are interested in and have on campus visits before the "official" announcement of entry into the portal. Once they are in the portal they can sign their papers cementing their commitment. So the done deal is coaches know in advance who their new players are before they are officially in the portal and their portal announcement is just a formality for the players who already know where they're going.

No, they cannot.

If a player not yet in the portal contacts a school, that school is REQUIRED to say nothing more than "We cannot talk to you until you enter the portal." PERIOD.

"Division I student-athletes must complete the Division I Transfer Module and notify their current school in writing of their desire to be entered into the NCAA Transfer Portal. Student-athletes may not speak to other schools about transferring directly or indirectly through others (e.g., family members, former teammates, NIL agent, club coaches) until they receive notice that they have been input into the Transfer Portal."

This is why Sierra says your knowledge comes from Google, there's more too it than that. Don't you guys have a rapore with MJ to ask him how it works?

Google is a tool that one uses to find information.

The statement is from a document published by the NCAA, with a publication date of April 2024, and that document can be found at the link provided.

If that isn't "good enough" a source of information for you guys, what would be?!? Good Lord!

Not quite. The rule books and guidelines furnished by the NCAA to the coaches and university's have massive amounts more info than what you can find online. That's why you don't understand the permissible pre portal contact that goes against the snippets you've found. It's not all public information.

Complete and utter nonsense.

"Student-athletes may not speak to other schools about transferring ... until they receive notice that they have been input into the Transfer Portal." There is NOTHING ambiguous about that. Nothing.

That's from the handbook, the rulebook has many clauses and exceptions.

Bull. Utter nonsense.

If there were "exceptions" then the statement in the NCAA document would say there were exceptions. It does not.

You're blowing smoke, it is obvious that you're blowing smoke.

Read further into the document I posted - it's all of two pages; by now you should have been able to finish it:

"Communicating with another Division I school’s athletics staff prior to entering the Transfer Portal can jeopardize a student-athlete’s future eligibility at that school. Existing recruiting rules prohibit communicating with a student-athlete who is enrolled at another Division I school prior to the student-athlete appearing in the Transfer Portal. These rules extend to indirect contact made by third parties on the student-athlete’s behalf (e.g., family member, scholastic or nonscholastic coach, advisor, former teammates). Certain violations of these rules can constitute a significant breach of conduct as it relates to the NCAA infractions process."

Does that sound like there are "exceptions" to you.

Can you point me to ANYTHING that even suggests there are "exceptions"?

Sierra made it clear you can't get what's provided to coaches by the NCAA from the web. Your information is extremely incomplete.

So the answer is "no". As I thought.

I post links to documents published by the NCAA. You guys blow smoke. Who to believe?

LOL

(Has Sierra ever made *anything* "clear"? Not that I recall. LOL)

You just don't get it, the NCAA does not make everything available to the public. They are not a public organization. The Muzzinator, MJ and all coaches have things that are not accessible to you or posted on the internet.

NONSENSE.

Say I'm a student-athlete considering transferring. Haven't decided anything, just thinking about it. It is you position that they CAN'T go out on the web to find accurate information? That the only place they can get the information is from their coach?!? That's absurd.

"Hey. coach. I'm thinking about giving up my scholarship and transferring away from your team. Haven't decided anything, just thinking about it. But I'd like to look into the process. Can you get me a copy of that information?"

You guys really cant believe this nonsense. You can't think you can convince anyone else to believe this nonsense, can you?

The NCAA publishes the information, posts it on the internet so that S-As can find it and use it. Any suggestion that they don't is simply ridiculous.

Just stop.

Dude, take your L and move on. You are so full of sh*t on this forum that the bar is pretty low for you, but this is Q-anon level of absurdity.

You don't get it. I've seen the NCAA rulebook. Coach Johnson took me into LaBahn under the dead of night, only the sound of owls echoing through the train tracks behind the building and the wind through the trees. He winked at me as he pulled out a hockey stick from the corner of the bench and a spiral staircase opened up descending into the depths. We descended, past a skeleton wearing a North Dakota women's jersey. "They didn't follow the rules," he said cryptically. Finally we reached the sacred vault. The NCAA rulebook sat on an altar, glowing under a mysterious light that came from nowhere. As he opened it, a terrible voice in a language I don't know but could somehow understand bellowed "YOU SHALL NOT SPEAK OF THE PORTAL" before the room opened up and a swirling light emerged in the wall. If I squinted through I could see the spirits of transfers past. Daryl Watts winked at me as she put a single finger to her lips before the portal closed. Coach Johnson turned to me, "now you understand" before he vanished in a puff of smoke. I finally stumbled to the daylight, days later, emerging from a grate at Picnic Point, the memory of that night already fading. But sometimes, in the darkest nights when the wind howls, I will sit bolt upright in bed, and I will remember the RULES. Oh, the RULES. The unspeakable things coaches do in the shadows. You would never enter the portal if you've seen the things I've seen....

Well Buckeyes looks like WI posters don't know much about their own program... funny how our coach has time for us, but MJ doesn't have time for them ... and yet they speculate. GO BUCKS

Sierra, I got your back. Talked to Parents after the Natty Championship. WI and MN were both 100% going after the same players. Anyone who says otherwise is absolutely full of shit.

Lots of free entertainment out here! I just think it's funny that the Muzzinator lives rent-free in all these trolls' heads! They probably have notifications set up for it. (laugh emoji) Well, that is enough from me. Gonna go out to ESPN+ and watch Joy Dunne's game-winner again and again and again!

Meh....Me no think you are talking about the same thing. Unless you are actually saying that you talked to the player's parents who have entered the portal this year...That would be interesting for sure.

Methinks you are talking about last years portal players who for sure would have been contacted by other schools like the sinners and tunnelers. Hats off to slOwSU as they did a great job bringing in a boatload of terrific players. The fact is, there aren't those type of players in the portal this year so I don't think it is as big a deal as the ducky and bunny posters want to make it out to be.

Parents of current OSU team members know and were talking about what players in this year's portal Wisconsin had contacted? That would be ... curious. How would they know?

Or parents of upcoming OSU transfers were at the championship game talking about who had been in contacts with the daughters? Because, for example, Swiderski's name was reportedly NOT in the portal until two days AFTER the championship game. And then we're back to people not supposed to be contacting people...
