Agreed, 3,500 would be too small for OSU. Goggin is a good example for style/amenities/two ice sheets. Magness is the better example on the size factor.

Ohio Ice Center. Because I'm counting on two ice sheets -- arguably two arenas -- contained within one center. The name also plays off of Ohio Stadium and Schottenstein Center. In this case, derivative is good.:)

But remember one of us has to win Powerball first. If HockeyBuckeye wins it, he gets the naming rights.:D

At least we give you the courtesy on not confusing Michigan with Michigan STATE. How much of an insult is it anyway to have someone think you're Sparty? LOL!

If you know the territory, and I suspect you do, you know that the reaction to this "insult" is remarkably muted on this side of the border.

Clearly disrespect is intended. When that's the case, there will be a little reaction. But mostly it's just mixed feelings, if there's any feeling at all. We are proud to be the flagship research university for the state. Obviously we're the only school from Ohio that belongs to the Big Ten. So the "insult" is sort of a half truth. While a few may get mad, most just shrug. For a while, I tried to come up with a corresponding, family-friendly counterpunch. I've given up; I just can't get excited about it.

One might think that the insult would run deeper to the MAC school in Athens. And yet they also seem to have no diffiuclty taking it in stride. Also, if this whole thing really mattered, you guys would have been deeply embarrassed when you lost to the Bobcats in NCAA Hoops. But that didn't really seem to bother anyone on your side of the border. Yeah, it was just hoops, but c'mon. What that says to me is that Michigan doesn't have that much invested in this either.

The whole thing is just shallow. If you guys didn't have head coaches embracing it, it would have died almost at once.

I just think it's funny. You have to admit pgb at least making issues between "Ohio" and "Ohio State" isn't crass like some do who take a school rivalry way too far into the realm of vulgarity and vandalism.
I always enjoyed back in the Woody/Bo era how the two schools would always try to one up each other. I think one of my favorites was when the stores in Ann Arbor were selling rolls of toilet paper with Woody's picture on each segment.
I know I'm pointing out football but that is where Ohio State fans develop their affection for Michigan and I believe it carries over into all our sports otherwise the OSU fans wouldn't do the "And Michigan Still S**ks" chant when they announce one minute left in the period at ALL our hockey games, which by the way I didn't allow my kids to do.
My personal contribution to the hockey part of the rivalry was wearing an OSU hockey jersey during an open skate at Yost and standing on the M logo at center ice! Got more than a few dirty looks. lol!

My feeling on the "Ohio" thing is as long as we win, they can call us anything they want. I don't have a problem with the "Ohio" thing. I agree with Pgb, I would think the folks in Athens would have a bigger problem with it than we do.

I do agree with that, especially with reagrd to vandalism.

My only point was that the name game isn't gaining much traction. A while back, I tried to go along with the gag, and referred to the Ann Arbor school as "Eastern Michigan." The quip got no reaction of any kind from either fanbase. Nobody thought it was funny, nobody thought it was offensive. There was nothing but dead silence. At that point I realized the whole thing was pretty much a non-issue.

I believe both games are being televised. Some sort of combination between Sportstime Ohio and The Time Warner Cable sports channel.

Yup, Friday is on STO, Saturday TWC Sports.

It is Miami's production, so you'll get a nice dose of homer announcing :)

Same guys as ONN? Wait at one point former osu hockey radio guy Neil Sika was involved.

It's not 1280p, but it's somewhere under the high def umbrella. Much improved over what was on ONN last year if that's what you are comparing it to. I can promise it will be 1,000 times better than whatever VHS-era camera Comcast dug up to broadcast the Michigan/OSU game last weekend, that was legitimately hilarious to watch.


Edit: This video is pretty compressed, but they got some new cameras over the summer, it actually doesn't come across half bad on TV.

Watching at home tonight. The announcers actually aren't that bad. They have been fairly complimentary of Ohio State and the game they have played tonight. Bucks up 2-0 with 1:37 to go. I am not going to exhale until the clock says 0:00. And just after I type this, but Bucks get an empty netter. Maybe I can exhale now. Guess the Redhawks will have to wait until tomorrow to win the CCHA regular season title. As ticked as I was about our series with Michigan last weekend, I am very happy with our game tonight. We took some penalties tonight that could have hurt us but our PK was sharp, and Hjelle, what can I say about Hjelle that hasn't already been said? The guy was money tonight. I am happy that he got a shutout tonight, and against a team as lethal as Miami, that was a tremendous performance by Hjelle and our blueliners. And let's not leave out the offense, getting two goals and an empty netter against one of the best defensive teams in the country. Nice night for the Buckeye Icers. Some of you who were there will have to fill me in on what you observed tonight.

This team so confusing. Big win and got some help UM. Props to Brady and the ATM line
