Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

Hey 86! I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. Other than a couple posts by one particular poster, which were pretty benign anyway, not sure where you're seeing us downplaying or ignoring the team's improvement. If anything, I think most Miami fans recognize that improvement and are excited about it (at least I am)! I want OSU hockey to get better because that pushes Miami hockey to get better and certainly makes for a more entertaining rivalry.

As for obnoxious fans: at least we at Miami still know that Michigan fans are the worst ;)

Here's to two great games this weekend, though I wish we still had another regular season series to which we coud look forward.

Go RedHawks!

There were a couple Miami posters, whose knowledge I do happen to respect, who didn't think we would be any good this season. I will agree to back off on the "Miami fans are worse than Michigan fans." I meant the Miami Hurricane football fans (LOL)! Cal Heeter stood on his head tonight. That was a great hockey game, and I think you will get your wish regarding us getting better. Coach Oz already has some nice recruits lined up. The only thing that will be missing with our program is a nice hockey-only facility like you guys have down there in Oxford. You'll probably come out with fire in your eyes tomorrow and get the split. I don't see us sweeping (just being realistic here) the #7 team in the country.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

There are plans and architectural drawings for a six or seven thousand seat hockey arena. The question is funding. Only way I see it getting done is if Gene Smith makes it a priority item for the athletic department's share ( which is going to be around 5%) of the 2.5 billion dollar fundraising campaign that's now in its quiet phase.

I will definitely buy a brick when they get the ball rolling on that, although I would like to see something a little bigger ... 8,000 - 9,000. We've drawn 9,000 for some games even in the down years. As soon as people figure out what Coach Osiecki is doing with this program, we'll come close to selling that out on a regular basis, especially when the Big Ten Hockey Conference is formed.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

Drop the puck , it's game time. This should be a awesome game!!!!! With Miami being down alittle this year and the Bucks being a younger team , the playing feild should be more even this year. " GO BUCKS GO. "

If the Miami program is a "little down" this season (ranked 7th), then I want our program to be a "little down," too.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

Truly as intense a game as one could expect! Even before one minute had passed in the game one could tell the enmity that has grown between the teams and of course in the past couple of seasons Miami has given OSU a lot more cause to dislike them but that just makes for some great hockey. Now if I can play devil's advocate I'd like to say we were fortunate to get the win and I saw a lot I didn't like from our players. I thought we were letting Miami cross our blue line at will instead of standing them up and no hard open ice hits to take them off the puck since they were out handling us. We also were letting Miami perimeter pass all night in our zone and giving them opportunity like that looking for an opening could have been disastrous. We were also lucky the zebras missed the too many men on the ice against us. On the positive side we didn't give up and hustled more for the puck than they ever did under Markell. The crowd is expected to be even larger Saturday and Miami will have a grudge and will we ride the momentum?

One of the most determined games I've seen the Buckeyes play in a long time. From the opening minutes of the game you can tell they came ready to play.

Bucks made it very nervy for their fans though. They played far from a perfect game but Heeter stopped everything that was near him and that was the difference.

Nice crowd on hand. Good to see a large student contingent in sections 111-117.

Awesome game that could have gone either way. What do they feed their defensmen in Oxford? their back line is huge?

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

Nice WIN for the Buckeyes. Eh. It was a battle between the Goalies. Both Goalies played well. Heeter was the reason the Bucks won tonight. Yes , credit goes out to Somma for his rebound goal. I was surprised that Miami didn't have the scoring power like in the past years. The Bucks shut down there top scorer. GO BUCKS.

Make that 9th or 10th now :P

Congrats on the win. Definitely a more even matchup than we've seen in recent years. And definitely a better student turnout than I've personally ever seen at VCA. Now they just need to develop some student initiative for cheers! I hope you guys get a hockey-only facility soon because I would enjoy these games much more with some real hockey atmosphere. That place just swallows the sound!

Here's hopin' for a split. Regardless of the outcome, though, good luck for the rest of the season and maybe we'll run into you again... though hopefully in Oxford in the 2nd round. See you guys tonight! Go RedHawks!

If we do get a new hockey only facility I think we need more than a 6000 seat capacity. North Dakota's hockey only building seats 11,640 and if Oz gets us where we hope we should be we'd sell much more than 6000 seats and I don't think our fans should ever not be able to get a ticket to a game. Remember our OSU history, when the horseshoe was built the skeptics claimed we'd never sell it out so I advocate plan for the future, not what you have as of today. Central Ohio is still a growing community and more people in the next 10-20 years means more potential fans.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

Wow! What a win last night, you can see this team gaining more and more confidence each game. Three huge points in the standings and you never know what can happen when a team gets confidence. Miami clearly had the better chances all night long but Cal was great all night long. I agree with the post earlier The D-men gave up the blue line much to easy at times. Once again John Albert was very good last night i though he was the best player other than Cal all night. To Keep Miami off the board took a total team effort and that meant for everyone to sell out and block shots get the puck out from front of the net and they did that for the most part. This is becoming a really good rivarly again taking that series in Oxford to game 3, and the last 2 games in Columbus miami hasnt scored a goal. Tonight should be really fun to see how the guys handle the success of last night and if they can build off this win just like they did after the michigan win.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

SkinHawks were clearly the better team periods one and two. They didn't seem to show up in the 3rd, fine by me. Look for a more chippy game tonight.

Agreed, 6,000 limits future potential. Turning people away is a negative. But so are scores of empty seats -- as we know all too well. osualum86's target of 8,000 - 9,000 strikes a nice balance. I'd even take 7,000.

I hope that the Average Joe is always able to get face value season tickets. I'd extend that to advance sales for single games, provided the fan is willing to make the purchase early on. The walk-up crowd takes its chances. As far as I'm concerned, give me the sell-outs!

Great point!

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

The Dispatch had a front page story today about the team and last night's game and I found it interesting the writer's initial comments about how we'd be better served playing in a smaller venue than the Schott.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

What has happened to Devon Krogh ???

He has a Head Concussion. Not sure what game he got it in. He has been out of the line up for sometime now. It was good to see the D-Men get a WIN without him these last few games. Get well soon Krogh.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

Interesting. I was listening to the BlueJackets radio show Wednesday and one of the host reported that according to a Toronto newspaper the NHL has narrowed the location for New years outdoor hockey to New York, Denver or Columbus. The host said he contacted OSU officials and the Ohio St. people would welcome the outdoor game.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

Get the Broom out. What a game tonight once again never quit attitude from this team. Down 2-0 after 2 and score 5 goals against one of the best teams in the country. John Albert is very underated he has been the best team player during his 4 years as a buckeye. We are seeing something that we havent seen in a long time thats now 6 straight for them and tied for 6th place. Cal played another good game tonight. Oz has them playing with great confidence it doesnt seem like he will let it go to there head. Team play is the name of the game and Oz has them playing as a group not as individuals as we have seen in the past. Who know what this team can do but i am excited to see the rest of the season. On to the Zoo next weekend to meet the Broncos.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

Wow. Nice weekend for the Buckeyes. Two very different looking wins against a solid, skilled team.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

SUPER SWEEP. What a game for the fans. I think we found the Redhawks sleeping in the 3rd period. The Bucks couldn't even buy a goal in the first two periods and then they score 5 goals in a row in the 3rd period. 3 earned goals and 2 empty netters. WOW. What a great come back and team effort. GO BUCKS GO.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

Sweeet sweep! Miami is a much more balanced and cohesive team under Enrico but OSU has been digging deep to give Oz what he expects in effort from them and this is how it pays off. The rest of the conference should take notice from this weekend that there's a new marshal in town! Give him his recruits and time and I predict another Frozen Four in our future.
