Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

I think Oz has done a good job...Blashill too. Western is 16-10-10...OSU 15-16-4... not that different when you think of all the 1 goal losses... Western also did not lose much scoring from 09-10, while the loses of Dalpe, Bartkowski and Bishop were VERY significant to OSU. The team is headed in the right direction-- no question in my mind

I know statistics are or losers (and this year we have a losing record), but one thing has to be considered. We have to be in the top three teams in the country for one goal losses. Close doesn't count, but there have been very few games where they have been totally outplayed.

Yes Sportsfan1 has an attitude and as stated before its not due to personal issues. Believe what you want. Maybe it's just easier for people to believe that rather than have someone question the actions of the new coach. If I'm not jumping on the bandwagon, I must have a personal grudge? I am just an OSU fan that thinks Oseicki is not all that he is cracked up to be.

Hopping on responding to this a little late, but reply I must. With facts. Doesn't imply Osiecki is a great coach, bad coach or in between.

Let's start with the year Johnny Highlights (nee Markell) came on board. Forgetting his first interim season (and all of us would like to) he went: 10-19-5 his first full season and actually got worse, percentage-wise his second year, 12-25-2.

But what of "good" coaches? Jerry York inherited a pretty good team from Ron Mason at Bowling Green. In Mason's last year, BG went a whopping 37-6-2. Yorkie takes over. They go 16-20-2 and actually get worse the next season, too 13-24-2. Ooof.

Red Berenson took over a Michigan team that had fallen on hard times. The year prior to coming to that school up north had gone 14-22-1. Red's first year? 13-26-1. Worse again his second: 12-26-0.

Rico? Well the RedHacks were up and down under his predecessor Mazzoleni, and were 11-20-5 the year he left. Rico did a little better than both Jerry and Red, as his first year his team improved to 13-20-3 and actually had a winning season his second year, 20-16-2. Um, but his third year was a bummer at 12-22-2.

Thus, if we followed the "what have you done for me this year?" in evaluating coaching performance we would have fired all of them right off the bat.

Am I disappointed at how the Buckeyes finished under Osiecki? Of course I would have like for them to have done better. But am I surprised? No.

Well said!

Although it is against my better judgement, I'll bite:

Questioned by who? How about some names and specific references to public pronouncements from the 'people that do have an interest in promoting NCAA hockey'? (links to written or video commentary would do, and no, your other posts do not count)

If you get away from your computer and went to an arena or two you would hear the negative assessments on OSU. Not from everyone and not all the time but word filters through regarding OSU and the past releases, the huge recruitment list and potential fallout again next season. Blogs and the Internet are not the only ways to gather information… But there are other Blogs, forums and information out there if you search for them….. I spend considerable time in various hockey venues and have heard Ohio State mentioned on many occasions this past season in regards to the above. Unfortunately most of it is in a negative light. Fortunately OSU was still able to recruit a large class for next season. Just don’t shoot the messenger because you think the info is BS…..
Having said that, Brewmaster has provided excellent information on other coaching changes, which is what a forum is all about, the sharing of information and opinions. I can’t understand why everyone gets so heated when one’s opinion is not always positive. I for one have never called for Oseicki’s firing and I only hope that he can recruit quality players that will possibly put that NCAA Championship banner in the Schott.
I don’t think he has shown himself to be a good coach this year maybe Brewmaster can provide us the data in a year or two!!!

Sportsfan1: say whatever you want...that's what a forum is for. I may not like what you say, but I respect your right to post it. Just recognize that people can be a little polarized in their responses.

As for providing data in a year or two, I think we'll all know what the results will be 'cause we'll all have been following it pretty closely.

Still, for those of you who want to wallow in the depths of data, USCHO has a pretty good site for that info here: http://www.uscho.com/stats/

Back to the good coach/bad coach conundrum: I had mentioned Jerry York earlier and his first years at BG. Yorkie had similar problems when he took over at BC; he had losing seasons for three straight years after succeeding a coach who had taken them to the NCAA tourney seven of nine prior seasons. Given that Eagle hockey has a far higher profile at BC than Buckeye hockey has at OSU, I wonder how much grumbling was going on there in Chestnut Hill back then...

Since then? Two national championships, and four runner-up performances. And only one season where his team performed at .500; never below. Wow.

Anyone have any TV info for the Saturday night game? Any satelite options or is strictly on the internet stream?
