Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

My mother would have been a coaching improvement over the last bunch. She also could have taken last years team and made it a better team this year without having to dump a number of players from the roster....
With a large number of recruits coming in this fall will there be more players "dumped" from the program.
I have said it before and I will say it again his decision to dump players will hurt recruiting in the long run if he does it again this fall...
Not to take away from Oseicki's prior accomplishments....I am just saying he has not done anything to improve this team overall this season...

I respectfully disagree with that but it's simply a matter of time to see who's ultimately right so we'll get back to it in a couple of years, say on the 50th anniversary of the program? I was there for year 1 and I think I can make year 50, but no promises. lol!

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

Well we all know Sportsfan has had an attitude against OZ since he cut loose some players and from other earlier threads the majority opinion is that it was personal for him. I've been involved in a number of D-1 sports programs and we're in no danger of losing recruiting over Oz's moves. Just the opposite given during Markell's era you had parents of players saying things like "If we knew then what we know now, we never would have come here!" Right or wrong that is the American life to say what you believe, question is will you have any credibility for others to believe you? So enought side topics and lets hope we get our two this weekend and move on. Go Bucks!

Yes Sportsfan1 has an attitude and as stated before it’s not due to personal issues. Believe what you want. Maybe it's just easier for people to believe that rather than have someone question the actions of the new coach. If I'm not jumping on the bandwagon, I must have a personal grudge? I am just an OSU fan that thinks Oseicki is not all that he is cracked up to be. One only needs to see all the Coaching moves in Pro and high level sports over the last few years to see that they don’t have to “clean house” in order to improve the team they are taking control of.
Now we all know that you have had “47” years with OSU and you claim to be involved with D-1 programs? Funny that you didn’t join the blog until Feb 2010. Isn’t that about the time the interviewing process had begun for the new hockey coach? Wasn’t that shortly before the public announcement that Oseicki was named? Time to stop the speculation about who I am....did you just coincidentally join this forum about this particular point in time to keep the "spin" in the right direction?
Question: How many NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Championship banners wave in the Schott ? Probably won’t be one anytime in the future either. I will be the first one to jump up and claim I was wrong about this coach if he puts together a winning team but for now my opinion is he is far from a “GREAT” Coach no matter how you try to spin it. He has a great resume, but he has a lot to learn about being a good coach. As for recruiting, with all your vast experience why have you not heard that OSU’s recruiting program is already being questioned and challenged by people that do have an interest in promoting NCAA programs? Guess just watching hockey doesn’t really give you an insight as to what is really happening in the hockey world outside of Columbus.

So far, a big new group of recruits coming in 2011. Let's hope that continues in the future. Time will tell.
Anyhow, not wanting to make this personal, I want to see the Buckeyes put a competitive program on the ice just like everyone else. Enough said….

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

Former Puck Buck Dave Steckel was traded today from Washington to New Jersey for Jason Arnot and a second round draft pick in 2012. Steckel currently leads the NHL in face offs won percentage at 63.6%. Another former Puck Buck, Rod Pelley, is already playing for the Devils.

Looks like I have a new favorite NHL team.:D

Well junior you've had your say and that's what we're here for but I find it amusing when the pot gets stirred a bit. But in response as to why recently did I appear on the forums? First of all there were no forums when my involvement began or even the internet and during Markell's tenure all was negative and complaining - not my style as it becomes redundant after a short time. Now with the coaching change interesting speculation and debate began and our threads began having a positive spin. To quote from a Rocky Horror song from over 35 years ago "Well secluded, I see all!" LOL! ;)

Although it is against my better judgement, I'll bite:

Questioned by who? How about some names and specific references to public pronouncements from the 'people that do have an interest in promoting NCAA hockey'? (links to written or video commentary would do, and no, your other posts do not count)

Given the great many people with an interest in OSU sports in general, and in the case of this forum, hockey specifically, I find it surprising that you seem to hear discontent and negative perceptions of the OSU program, the new staff, and their approach to recruiting and the game EVERYWHERE from PEOPLE WHO KNOW HOCKEY, particularly NCAA HOCKEY, yet none of the other posters on here (including those dissatisfied with the hockey team's performance who would certainly post such info if they encountered it) find bona fide references to these pronouncements. Other than your rants on here that is, which appear to be fantasy. I call BS.

Re: Ohio State 2010/2011 - No way but up.

I like the over-confidence in this thread. :)

See you next weekend.

I take it you are being sarcastic here as I don't see too many in this thread who are overconfident about us winning. In fact, if you have read some recent posts, we already have people banging on a first-year coach who doesn't even have all his recruits in here. It's kind of funny, last month after we swept Miami, Oz could do no wrong. Now that we have hit a rough patch with a very young team, Oz is suddenly an idiot. Amazing. Give the guy a chance to get a couple more recruiting classes in here.

I agree OSUalum86, give the guy a chance. Can ANYONE tell me of a D-1 hockey program as troubled as ours was and a first year coach made them a miracle on ice team his first season with what he had on the shelf? That seems to be some peoples expectations. To complain before he gets a couple of seasons in with his own recruits he can train from scratch seems strange. We all had doubts on how far they'd go at the beginning of the season, why should we expect different so soon just because we had a good run going for a short time?

Blashill at Western comes to mind, but i agree with you give him a chance to get his own type of player in the program to see what he can do.

Definitely agree with you that Blashill performed a miracle on ice job at Western Michigan. If I had a vote for CCHA CoY I would vote for him. Maybe some expected Oz to work that kind of magic for us here and that's why they are suddenly bashing him. We did have a good stretch there for a while. What Blashill did at WMU is certainly the exception, not the rule. I think we will be just fine with Coach Osiecki at the helm.

Coach of the year should be a shoe in for him. I agree that ohio state is in good hands with OZ behind the bench. Lets go get a road playoff victory this weekend and move forward from there. The Bucks havent won on the road since the 02 sweep at Western. They havent won a road game this year since dec 11 at BG, but the playoffs are new season and i still think good things can happen for this team. Its got to be a total team effort to be successfull.
