I highly recommend it! Everyone should go see an Olympic event(s) live and in person at least once if they can.

My wife and I went to both of the gold medal matches for field hockey. This was my first summer Olympic games to attend and there is quite a bit of difference between summer games and winter games (went to Vancouver). Overall I enjoy winter sports better but there is something very cool about the summer games with the greater amount of games, competitors, and more events located together. The Olympic park was huge and teaming with people most of the time. Overall I give London a thumbs up for their hosting. Security wasn't too bad and while expensive, I didn't think that the cost was quite as staggering as it was in Vancouver. As an FYI to anyone thinking of attending in the future, in my experience from the Vancouver and London games, the ticket cost, while quite high, is actually the cheap part. It the hotels, food, and travel are where the real expense is.

Now I will be waiting for the ticket lottery to open up for the Soshi games in about another year.....

Wasn't trying to be the Quote Police. I just know because I watched it the other night. I would've mixed them up too.

If you don't mind me asking, what did a hotel actually cost you? Were there any outside stipulations such as minimum stays? Did alot of the stuff you mentioned seem to be at a premium price compared to what London would normally offer?

There is bound to be some mark up for this... I'm just curious as to what would have happened here in Chicago had we been awarded 2016....

Flights from Syracuse to London were ~$1500 each person round trip. Hotel at Hilton London Isington was ~$450 a night. Food (not at the Olympic park) I think was on par with normal pricing. For the two days I had tickets for I also had passes for the public transportation (included in ticket cost) so that was free. And of course any souvenirs were outrageous. The flights and hotel were booked about 6 months in advance.

Compare that to if I booked flights today the cost would be about $900 each and the hotel would be $250 a night.

Tickets for the matches were a little over $600 total, 2 people for each for the two matches we saw. I got my tickets through CoSport which is the official Olympic ticket supplier here in the US. The tickets are sold based upon a modified lottery system.

I'm sure for the olympics all the hotels were more. I've found descent, clean and pretty spartan places, near the airport and tube, for 90 dollars and nicer ones closer to town at least 250. If you want real nice, 450 is in the ball park. I'd also say the airfare was pretty good.It can get expensive on short notice. I've found restaurant food in London to be quite high, at least NYC prices. Using the tube can save a lot of money on cabs.

just did a quick search for Dulles -> Rio for a week's stay Monday - Monday. $1,000. Guess it will be closer to $1,500 - $2,000 in four years. Guess it's another TV Olympics.

If you owned a house near any of the events, you likely could have done like some of the Londoners did. Take a four week vacation, and charge the renter enough to pay for your vacation. And a couple months of mortgage payments.
