I'm just catching up on the primetime Olympics coverage on my DVR. These bike sprints are amazing.

The comments have nothing to do with that. I mean, she's in the Olympics. That makes her a **** good gymnast. I don't think there's any doubt of that whatsoever. The comments have nothing to do with her gymnastic performance on the mat. (DO NOT "go there" with any comments on what I said...)

I wasn't referring to comments about her performance, I just find it assholish to predict a teenage girl is going to rip to shreds every s.o. she'll ever have.

Really? They go like 5 mph for the first 2 laps, it made no sense. I had to change the channel because it was so idiotic.

I know. I guess I just like the mind games that go on before the explosive sprint over the last lap.

Love the poll at the end:

"Would Canada have beaten the US with different referees:

___Yes

___No

___I'm too upset to even answer"

Funny stuff, to be sure. But, am I the only one to remember a Russian kid killing himself (not in an Olympics) when he did one of those backwards somersaults off the platform and hit his head on the way down? He was dead before he hit the water. No effort at buzzkill. Just a reminder that there's serious injury potential in a lot of these sports.

IMO, Sinclair's remarks are unfortunate, and the "ref decided the result before the game started" either needs to be retracted or backed up. But if she's willing to do so, she gets a lot of slack from me. That was one of the all-time great individual performances, men's or women's, Olympics or World Cup, ever, she had to have been exhausted, and that was a real tough way to lose. Many objective, neutral people questioned some of the calls, but nobody has presented any credible indication that the match was fixed. If the ref were out to fix the match she wouldn't have done it indiretly (pardon the pun). There were plenty of opportunities to award a PK straight up.

The coach gets no slack at all. He started the gamesmanship with the "higly illegal tactics" comment, clearly designed to make the referee more likely to make fouls for contact by offensive players in the box. He's got no beef if the US players or coaches employ some gamesmanship to make the ref more likely to fouls for "highly illegal" stalling tactics.

The Canadians should be gratified that other teams now employ gamemanship against them. Welcome to the big leagues.

That's a line right out of "The Natural" when Roy Hobbs takes a called strike in his first at bat and disagrees with the call.

I do find it hilarious that a country whose national hero is Sidney Crosby is whining about a player pointing stuff out to the official.
