Signature event for me is the decathlon, but it's pretty much impossible to watch, since it's ten events over two days. Also, sometimes it lacks drama, since sometimes it's effectively over before the end of the last event. "Must sees" for me are the 100 and 1500 m.

NBC apparently on a 16 year delay. Showing the Strug vault. Track was supposed to be on... but I guess not.

Absolutely the worst coverage ever. They have 4 phenomenal swimming finals to show and the first day of track and field. And what do they show? Women's volleyball against an 0-3 Serbia team that was not even competitive followed by preliminary diving where we already know the Chinese women are a lock along with stories from previous olympics. I suppose NBC knows what is interesting for most of us. They should get the worst ratings ever.

Bela yelling and babbling is always entertaining, but I'd still rather see the swimming and T&F.

Well, they can't show anything interesting too early. It's important that they not show anything interesting before 11:00 Eastern. Otherwise some of us might go to bed at a decent time.

They could have at least shown the shot put, or are they saving that for tomorrow prime time. geesh!

I came home when that was on and asked Mrs. P if some events were rained out.

Ooh boy, just saw it will be Canada vs US in womens soccer semi. Gonna be a fun Monday in our house. :D

40 year drought in the 200m women's backstroke. Missy Franklin sets the WR. Awesome. And cool to see Lebron James at the pool to cheer her on.

How unfair is it to these poor high school girls who go to a swim meet and have to race Missy Franklin? They literally know before the race that they can not win. Not that Missy shouldn't be allowed to swim, you just have to feel bad for the poor other swimmers when Franklin could win the team event by herself.

There was once a terrific swimmer from suburban Chicago named John Kinsella. He won a silver in the 1500m freestyle and gold in the 800m freestyle relay at Munich as a sophomore at Hinsdale Central. For his day, John was really a moose. His mom had to produce his birth certificate at all the country club age group meets, he was so tall, with shoulders out to there. Anyway, how'd you like to be on the blocks next to him in some broke dik conference meet?

As a senior at Hinsdale Central, John was named winner of the AAU's Sullivan award as America's best amateur athlete. He went to Indiana and swam for the legendary "Doc" Counsilman, where his teammates included Mark Spitz and Gary Hall, Sr. He won numerous individual NCAA titles.
