So I'm getting killed in FIFA '11 online. Almost every game I've been dominating play, but my opponent gets an open shot from outside the box and it goes in. One game I had 16 shots, my opponent 2. I scored 2 goals, he scored 2 goals. I lose in penalties.

Playing online with strangers is frustrating, they're all really good. (Which reminds me that I should try to set it up that I can play online with people I know. How do I do that?)

ps3 or xbox? Because xbox you just need to add people as friends and send a game invite. The thing about online play that kills me is how good I'm playing versus other people, but can't get the shots to go in, and then on my end, a computer controlled defender decides just to stand in place instead of running with an attacking player.

It sucks, I know. I've been playing much better FIFA lately. Focusing MUCH more on defense. Shots don't matter much. I very rarely win the ball possession battle (usually I'm around 40%) but I'm 18-5-2 in my last 25 games. Go figure.

Edit to add: Are you talking about attacking players with the ball or without? I guess the AI isn't great at picking up runs off the ball, but that must depend on how good the defender is, also, no?

Attacking players without the ball. It seems the problem happens when there's a tight pass about 35 yards out while the attacking player is running, continues the run and the defender just stops after the ball is passed. Last night I screwed around with the formation so I run a 4-4-2 instead of a 4-5-1 and it's helped a lot with that problem because the midfielders have been getting back quicker.

Now that I've started playing it: FIFA online is ****. The way people play bears no relation to the game in real life, it's all just "get the fastest strikers I can find and boot the ball over the top". Lame.

Yes. This exactly. Sucks. Although I'm on an 8 game winning streak. Won the last game 9-0.

I've certainly played with people who play that way...but it's far from the only way to win, and it is relatively easy to defend against if you plan for it.

I'm such a streaky FIFA player. I am either fantastic, or go on horrendous losing streaks. :/

Add a person to your friends list on PSN and then send them an invite in the game. Although with FIFA I haven't play in a while so I'm not sure how. I should start to play again.

Actually, it's tough if the opponent holds the ball at the back line then shoots it over the defense. The computer controlled defense isn't great at defending lead passes from the back end because they try an offsides trap too late. Anytime I'm playing Barca or Spanish national team, it's a huge problem. What I've started to do is get very aggressive with the keeper on those passes and it's working ok, still though, it's annoying as hell to play against.

Tapping up twice on the D-Pad forces your D to run up immediately. I don't wait for the computer to realize the offside trap, I do it myself. It takes a bit of practice to get the timing down, but I've gotten quite good at it.

Dragon Age II! I'd be playing it tomorrow, but I still need to finish the first one. That final boss battle is kicking my *** :p REALLY looking forward to DAII though.

The final battle in the main game with the dragon and the constant mob spawns can be tough. Especially if you let Morgan (sp) go.

If you get frustrated and have saved close to the end, you could play it on easy first. The fight is pretty gimp though, as the mobs are far far fewer. But it might help you get your tactic down. Then you can move up to the harder difficulties.
